I use the acetone nail polish remover for bearings and carefully use on metal parts. For the rest of the reel I use Penn Rod and Reel cleaner. Remember acetone does not play nice with plastics.
Reels: Clean, lubricate, back off the drags,respool line if necessary. Rods: check guides for wear and clean, reseal cork grips. Tackle: check hooks, look for wear an tear replace if necssary., This is spread out over a few months.
Original packages stored in $1.50 plastic shoe boxes, also when fishing store some in a ziploc bag and the original packages that fit into my tackle boxes.
I use straight braid with a trailer. Also I cut a small piece of plastic tubing, slide it over the main line, then tie off to the bait and slide the tubing down over the bend. Keeps the line from slipping.(this was an idea I found on Youtube}
