  1. I rarely do any of these but want to start with the frog and deep crank. Is there a rod that might work for both without me having to buy two? I'm looking at IMX pro or maybe even e6x. In case anyone is wondering, I'm not rich just getting ready for retirement in about a year and don't want to purchase any more rods after that. ? Once again .... thanks.
  2. I'm a little short so 7 ft is long to me. I actually like the 6.8 and 6.9 models the best. We ordered a couple of MBR E6X rods in H and MH 7ft with the high school order. I have been passing them around so everyone can use them some. The MBR models just don't feel right for the kids. They love the other rods but keep saying the MBR's feel strange. I grabbed the H action and tied a carolina rig on it. It's interesting in that I can see the rod tip flex almost before I feel the hit. I'm going to let them try it rigged this way and see how they like it.
  3. That's it! I took both rods last night and kept looking at them. If a person could move the reel forward about 1/16 of an inch on the GLX it would fit just fine for me. A person could also find a reel that mounts on it's reel seat slightly different I would think. I like St. Croix also. In my case there are other reasons I want to give GLoomis some business, not the least of which is a local small store sells them.
  4. Yea I probably going to sell the GLX casting and get some more IMX pro. I like to fish braid to leader on casting and I would think that would eliminate any sensitivity difference. I'm going to fish this weekend so I'll know more then I hope. Funny you talk about the power. I was breaking off on hooksets with the MH spinning and couldn't figure it out. I even did a strength test on the line thinking I had gotten a bad spool. I finally figured out I've never owned anything like this and apparently it was transfering enough energy to the 8 lb test I was snapping the knot at close range. I started laying off the "pop" some and everything has been fine since. I might be interested in doing some trading?? I actually like the full cork on a rod.
  5. For those that have been reading and commenting on my posts I thought an update was in order. I ended up with three IMX pro and three GLX in the same models. Two spinning and three casting in each. Probably overkill but I've been saving for some time and got a small discount for buying so many rods. Gloomis also seems to have pretty good resale. We shall see I guess ? The GLX is way more sensitive in the spinning models and despite the reel seat not feeling great I'm going to keep fishing them. It's a little more foggy between the imx pro and the glx in the casting models though. Something about the GLX reel seat is just terribly uncomfortable in my hand during the retrieve to the point I am reaching for the IMX most of the time. The sensitivity between the two also doesn't seem to be as apparent as the spinning models. All rods are spooled with Pline copolymer. I have also been using the same lures on each model of rod. I'm not a great reviewer but maybe someone can get some help from this writing. PS ..... why would gloomis make a great GLX rod and not use a standard reel seat ???????
  6. The feel matters to me. I ended up with two GLX rods and they are super sensitive, in fact they are insanley sensative compared to anything I have ever owned. The reel seats are so big though it may be just too uncomfortable in the long run. I'm going back this weekend to buy one of the IMX pros. Either way I like to have one feel in a rod so there will be a posting in the "for sale" at some point ?
  7. That is a very good point! Thanks for mentioning it.
  8. Well thanks I guess .... LOL I may buy the GLX and see how it feels. I don't think I would lose much selling it if I don't like it. I could buy one of each and see which one I end up with. If I am fishing bottom baits I pretty much use only spinning equipment so the reel seat is a big deal to me.
  9. So I drove a hour to buy a GLX spinning rod and came how without one. Crazy? Nope the reel seat felt terrible in my hands with a reel on it. I was able to make a few casts and it just felts awkward. It's to thick for my small digits. So I also picked up an IMX pro and it has a smaller reel seat that felt just right. It's more like the e6 rods we just received. So those of you that have fished both would you deal with the reel seat, in my case, for the difference in sensitivity? I use braid to flouro leader on my spinning outfits if that makes a difference. Thanks Pfish
  10. Thanks for the info guys, it really helps me a lot. These kids are not new at fishing but they have never been able to afford anything but $50 rods or so. I have some folks willing to help them and this just popped up out of the blue. I was getting ready to order from another company and a was made this offer. Either company would be great but my kids are pretty excited about this one. I am going to try and order 3-4 and let them try them first. Even if that is all we end up with it's better than what they have. Don't know yet and not sure I would post it. This was just "one of those times" where I happened to be talking about something and the right person overheard me. Abu Garcia has sold us products in the past. You have to have a legit team, with proof from the school, but they are easy to deal with. Lews has programs also but they are very, very limited and tough to get on with.
  11. First post here as I was sent this direction hoping some of you experts could help me. We have been fortunate enough to have the opportunity to purchase some rods from GLoomis for the fishing team. Mistakenly I thought this would be a simple choice of rod actions since I have been fishing for approximately 40 years. The problem started when I realized this particular company had way more choices of actions and I was used to dealing with. So basically here's a list of what I would like to have. 1 A good casting worm/jig rod that will be used around some medium cover types. 2 A good casting rod that might be used for spinner baits/chatter baits/etc. 3. A good casting rod for all around crank baits. 4 A good all-around spinning rod that might be used to fish small worms/Ned Riggs/small jigs 5 A good all-around spinning rod that might be used to fish drop shots, etc. All of these rods are available to us in the E6X lineup. It looks to me like the MBR series has an extremely limber tip section. I'm afraid this might cause problems with younger anglers, or maybe not. Thanks for the help in advance...... Pfisher
