  1. Just another use for my Gloomis MBR rods.
  2. Thanks guys ..... I'll get santa to bring me one ?
  3. Need one more rod to complete my retirement set ? So far the advise here is good too. What are the thoughts on a IMX-PRO 904C MBR for some lighter pitching and flipping duties. We just don't have the really thick nasty stuff that I fish for a dedicated xtra heavy rod and I've really started to like the MBR tapers. Thanks once again! P
  4. Yep it's all about the feel. It's just a little big for me but I deal with it for the sensitivity.
  5. I have been fishing both the IMX pro and GLX in the same model for a couple of months. Since I use braid on my baitcasters there doesn't seem to be much of a difference in the two. The GLX is very slightly lighter it seems but that may be due to balance? The reel seat on the GLX does not fit my style of holding a reel at all. I have thought about selling them and getting more IMX Pro but they seem to lose much more value than I thought they might so I will just fish them. The IMX Pro fits just fine. These are both the latest models if that matters. Edit: FWIW this does not carry over to the spinning models for me. GLX is the clear winner in that category.
  6. I'm not sure either but in the last three months I have fished the Gloomis IMX pro and GLX in the same model/action. In baitcasting I can't tell a ton of difference, especially since I use braid most of the time. In spinning models though I can tell a huge difference in the sensitivity. I know own 4 GLX spinning rods and might as well leave the others at home ? Considering their is only a $100 difference I was really surprised in the difference.
  7. 100% About once a year I lose my mind and try it "one more time" for about an hour, or first break.
  8. I have two spools of Pline that I'm almost sure are bad spools. I've use this line you years with no issues and all of a sudden the spools of 8 and 12 I have are breaking on the hooks set. So unless I have two bad GLX rods I have two bad spools of line that I just bought. I actually have some Advance in the boat now. Might as well give it a shot now. FWI my go to braid since it came out is the 832 from sufix.
  9. Not sticking my neck out, just stating facts as I know them to be. I miss being able to talk to experts and like many things the reality is different than the facts in many cases. In many countries companies are allowed to set prices based on strict guidelines concerning cost and profit. In that case everyone is protected and the small business community is thriving. Not so much in the US ? It's a fine line and I would never say price fixing doesn't happen but as things stand the small business guy is taking a beating. And no I'm not always trusting either..... I don't use paypal because I don't like their privacy policies. I have to run purchases through a friend who always gives me shat.... LOL
  10. MSRP and MAP pricing are there to protect the companies profit, which in turn protects their employees, distributers and dealers. For some reason folks seem to think there aren't laws protecting consumers. I can promise you the hoops a company has to jump through to set pricing is extremely expensive and time consuming. Then retailers (online mostly) break the company's pricing policy rules which makes the situation much worse. In the end a small percentage of folks feel good about the deals they get but it hurts the overall economy and job prospects.
  11. You sound just like those that never by anything local. And actually some of those things I don't deduct. But like I said, it's not your problem.
  12. Since I have a small business that relies on folks paying my prices I normally pay full price and buy local if any way possible. American value used to have meaning. Funny how everyone wants to improve the economy but most don't want to help. But hey I guess it's not your problem either ???
  13. Ever know someone that waited for months so that they could save 20% and then life happened?? Set a budget based on full price and live within it. That has worked well for me.
  14. Thanks guys..... I have had very good luck with claims through USPS and not so much with the others. I prefer them so I'll give that a shot first.
  15. I just can't seem to get comfortable with the GLX baitcaster reel seats so may sell them. I have a couple of tubes they came in and normally use USPS Priority but can use UPS. What is a normal rod shipping cost. I always insure my shipments also.
  16. If 20% is keeping you from buying them you must not want them to bad ... lol
  17. We both have some extra income streams coming in so that isn't an issue with my wife and I. If it doesn't come out of joint money (all of our incomes have always been joint) then it's fair game and no one says a word. So if you have been saving money then it shouldn't matter, or it seems that way to me.
  18. Most of them are caught while walleye fishing. We have caught some large ones on spinning though. It's all about the drag and skill of the person fighting it. Except of course when the stradic decided to lock up mid fight......lol
  19. They are 100% wrong about the secure holder. Minnkota actually makes one.
  20. Yep ..... why I never bought them. Saw way to many bind and ruin a Northern Pike catch of a lifetime for buddies. Yet they were constantly telling me why their high dollar stradics were better than my president supremes. In twentynine wilderness trips they never let me down. At least 5000 walleye and pike with ZERO cleaning ? And still going strong.
  21. I totally understand. Budget rules for most of us ?
  22. Most folks would be amazed at how many people don't even have their units networked together. According to a HB market rep I talked to they find that only about 10% of all users have networking and a large percent of the market only has one unit. Since the helix never had map sharing I'm sure it's been determined that it's not economically feasible to add that feature now. The only lower end Lowrance that shares maps was once their higher end unit and already had map sharing built in. As with anything the final decision is based on the market. FWIW if you want map sharing the Solix is the machine to buy.
  23. That is exactly what I need to know! Thanks! Guys I know all about other roda and have fished many of them for a day with friends. I appreciate the input but my original question still stands.
  24. I looked at those two. I have access to an 844 that I can fish some and may order the 884 as it looks like a multipurpose rod also. So the e6x have a shorter handle? Thanks for all the replies folks. This would be much tougher without the responses.
  25. If I can find something that will handle both reasonably well I will buy the IMX-Pro simply because of the weight difference. In the rods I have used in the same model in both e6x and IMX pro so far the IMX is lighter to me by some measure. Or maybe they are better balanced? Thanks for the responses so far.
