  1. That's good to hear, there isn't much info or reviews about them online (though what I have found has been all positive things!). What kind of line would you put on it?
  2. As an early birthday gift to myself I recently picked up a Daiwa Kage spinning rod (the jerkbait model) and now I need a reel to pair it up with. Any suggestions on what might balance well? It's 6'8" medium/fast. I didn't want to break the bank so I was thinking a Daiwa Laguna LT 2000 size, or maybe a Shimano Catana FD though they have 1000 and 2500 but nothing in-between. Do y'all have any other suggestions? Also what kind of line do you run on your jerkbait rods? I plan to also use it for flukes and some topwater (poppers, walking baits, etc). Braid and fluoro leader? Straight mono or perhaps straight copolymer? I'd appreciate some input!
  3. Hey everybody, a few years ago a couple guys from a local bass fishing group came to my university to give a talk, answer any questions we might have, and give away some baits for our team. One of the baits I grabbed was this curly tailed worm (pic included) that they made in a local tackle shop that one of the members works at. I only have one left but they have been absolutely killer in my area so I'm looking for something similar (as it's nearly an hour drive for me to get there, and I got them a couple years ago so who knows if they're still being made). I'd say it's about 6" and also has a strong garlic scent, though I'll take anything that's close. Thanks!
  4. What do y'all think about this rod for jerkbaits? I've heard some people prefer extra-fast and some people say a medium/fast is more ideal. I would also likely use it for some topwater poppers and walking baits. I'd appreciate some input!
  5. Unfortunately I'm looking at the spinning option, not casting. I'm thinking the new Daiwa Legalis LT would match well with it, or maybe keep it classic with a Pflueger President.
  6. I think I've decided on picking up a St. Croix Bass X 6'8" medium/extra-fast spinning for jerkbait fishing (often recommended as a budget rod for jerkbait fishing). Now I just need to decide on a reel that will balance well with it and won't break the bank!
  7. Hopefully the people here know what I'm talking about because I can't quite find the name of the braking system online (after another quick look it might be the infinity brake system?). But on the opposite side of the handle near the front of the reel there is another adjustment knob, and I find that when casting if I have it set pretty low (2-3) the force of the cast causes the knob to spin and tighten up so I have to re-adjust it after every few casts. Does anyone know how I can fix this?
  8. 3/0 with the colorado blade paired with a sungill keitech fat impact might be one of my highest producing baits of all time. Perfect for the bluegill-littered ponds I tend to fish
  9. Looking to meet some people who live in the area (I'm in Newark, DE!) to talk fishing and maybe do a meet-up once the weather warms up! Being in a weird part of the country where the water freezes over but not thick enough to really go ice fishing has me going through fishing withdrawal
  10. Got a couple of these in the mail today, it's getting hard waiting for it to get warmer and for the ponds to open up
  11. How do you guys fish this? I got one a while back and would make a cast, let it sink, then give it a slow steady retrieve but it always seems to make it's way back up to the surface instead of staying down at the depth I want it. I'm fishing it on a 7' medium/moderate cranking stick, 5:1 reel and 12-14lb mono. Totally new to swimbaits so I'd appreciate some help!
  12. It could work! I've caught plenty of frog fish on my cheap Shakespeare "catch more fish" combo (6'6" medium/fast), but missed many more
  13. It's difficult living in an area where all the ponds freeze over but not thick enough to go ice fishing. Hmm, maybe I'll go organize my tackle again...
  14. I've been looking to pick up a couple firecraw chatterbaits for the coming spring and I'm trying to decide what to pair them up with. I've seen posts here of people using SK Rage Menaces and SK Rage Bugs, and I've also been looking at the kamikaze swimon, but I'd love to know what you guys think!
  15. Hopefully this is the right place to ask, but does anyone know if TW still has an active $5 off code? LTBSAVESQ1 hasn't worked for me in a lil while, but if not no worries
  16. As the title states, I'm sort of in the market for a "dedicated" jerkbait rod that won't break the bank. Right now I'm looking at the Shimano SLX rods (the 6'9" medium/extra-fast spinning and the 6'10" medium/extra-fast casting), do the guys here think one would be a good choice? Do you prefer throwing jerkbaits on casting gear or spinning gear? Do you have another recommendations in the price range? Some of the reviews on tacklewarehouse talk about the SLX spinning rods snapping during use, and I'm also a little curious if anyone here can attest to that. Thanks in advance!
  17. So I'm thinking of going to this state park and renting a kayak some time this week to try and get on some fish. This is in the mid-Atlantic (Delaware, to be specific) where we've had a lot of rain recently and temps in the 80-90s, though significantly cooler lately especially at night. I'll likely be going around mid-morning (9-12ish). What places would you target? What kind of baits would you throw? Besides the docks that are shown on the map, I know the southern portion of the lake (near where it says "fishing pier" in 4-6ft of water) has some standing timber, and there are spots with reeds along the banks but besides that I'm not all that familiar with what kind of structure there is. Any help would be appreciated!
  18. I am maybe fishing a little for-fun club tournament this weekend - fall fishing is generally my weakest season, and it's a body of water I haven't fished before, so I'm looking for advice! What places would you target and what kind of baits would you throw? My instincts say to focus on the drop offs on the northern end or maybe the flat areas on the southern end where bass might be chasing schools of bait fish, but I'd love some advice! PS: the body of water is about 40 acres. One picture is a topo map of the lake, the other is this weeks weather. Sorry if this is in the wrong section too!
