Going to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan in a couple weeks. Never smallmouth fished before. What are some baits that are must haves?

I just bought a SLX MGL with the slx rod. What are the best baits to use on this combo? Everyone website has a different opinion on what to use on a medium power rod.

What would a medium power fast action rod (SLX) rod be good for? Would it go well with an slx MGL? Any thoughts on the slx MGL?

I have a bunch of EWG hooks but I don’t know what size they are. Is there a way to determine the size ( 1/O, 2/O, 3/O......)?

I’m just getting back into fishing, so I’m learning as I go. I was able to buy a Shimano Curado casting rod 7’4” medium/heavy moderate action for $70.00 which had barely been used. I am now figuring out that it is commonly used for crankbaits. Can it be used for other applications like Texas rigs? I am going to pair it up with a curado k 7:4.1 or 8:5.1.
