Thanks for all the informative replies! I spooled it up with some braid and the problem does seem to be far less noticeable. Still seems like the spool tension has to be cranked down compared to other reels, especially to have a half ounce lure fall controlled.

As soon as the thumb bar is pressed, the spool runs as if you had a bad backlash and the Mono/Fluoro becomes loose on the spool

Hi there, first time posting! Recently ordered a Shimano Bantam MGL XG from Japan and upon recieving the reel and trying to spool it up, when i depress the thumb bar the spool overruns severely. wondering if this is typical of a bantam or if I might have a defective reel. This is my first Shimano MGL reel, however i do own a curado k, DC and an SLX Xt, all of which this does not happen with. If I tighten the spool tension knob quite a bit, the problem seems to go away. any input would be great!
