Extra Fast vs Fast Action Question
I know action and power ratings are subjective but I'm curious if you guys notice a huge difference overall. I just bought a MH rod that had everything I'm looking for but they only had XF available in the size and power I wanted. I'm going to be using it for spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, swim jigs, etc. but I'm slightly nervous that the XF action is going to be really unforgiving with hooksets and casts. Do you see a huge difference between the two? I bought this to be my workhorse rod that I use most of the time but some opinions I see make XF action out to be something so application specific that you can only properly fish a few things with it. Also if anyone has experience with the Johnny Morris Signature Casting Rods and can speak to the action on them I would appreciate it. Thanks!

Need help with choosing new rods
Thanks man. How accurate is the power on them? I just ordered the Tatula SV reel and I never thought to look into their rods. I'm having a hard time finding accurate power ratings. A few rods I tried so far felt like they were either under or over the MH power rating.

Need help with choosing new rods
Thanks. Are they both similar? I wouldn't mind something for jerk baits and finesse stuff but also would like something where I can throw 1/2 oz spinnerbaits and chatterbaits. Targeting bass and the occasional pike.

Need help with choosing new rods
Just ordered the Daiwa Tatula SV TW and have a Lews Tournament MP that I need to get a new rod for (tip broke). I'm primarily bank fishing but occasionally fish from kayaks/canoes. I'm looking for MH action rods. Ideally one 6'6" that I can use in tighter spaces and the other 7'. I'm looking for something that has backbone but is still very sensitive. My price range is around $150/each give or take and I'm just looking for best value in that price range. So far I've returned a MH Dobyns Fury (Felt more like a medium and not enough back bone for me) and St Croix Mojo Bass (Felt like a broom stick/doesn't feel sensitive enough). I wanna get somewhat quality stuff but I don't have the bread to drop on a rod and reel for every single application right now (this is my 4th rod/reel setup this year.. just got back into the game after not fishing much for a few years). Any recommendations and feedback based on what I'm looking for would be appreciated!

Medium Heavy vs Heavy - Pros/Cons?
I'm probably gonna stay in the $100 range but am willing to go a little higher if there's something out there that is worth the extra money. This $$ is adding up this year lol. Casting with a tree.. lol. I think I'm going to go with another MH. I'm not opposed to the H rod but I won't use it enough to justify it. Maybe once I get a kayak and find some areas where I'll want to jig and punch I'll pick one up. Thanks

Medium Heavy vs Heavy - Pros/Cons?
Thank you for your input. I think I do want another all-purpose rod but I guess I was curious if I use thick enough braid could I technically use a medium heavy power rod for frogging. I don't have enough local access to good frogging water so I can't justify getting an application specific rod that I'm only going to use two or three times a year. I am interested in checking it out though and trying it.

Medium Heavy vs Heavy - Pros/Cons?
Hello - I apologize if this topic has already been beaten to death I tried searching the forum and wasn't able to find the answers I really want. I'm looking to get another BC setup. Currently I have light and medium spinning setups and a MH BC setup. I want to add another BC setup to my arsenal but I want to get some advice first. The two rods I use most are my medium spinning for finesse and lighter stuff and my 7 ft MH BC which I use for anything over 3/8 oz to 1oz. I primarily target largemouth in ponds and lakes but I also frequent the river for smallmouth and (attempt to) target smaller stripers, pike and muskie. I keep 12lb mono on my MH BC but I want an all-purpose rod (if possible) for topwater bass, jigs, and something that can handle bigger fish in the river. I would most likely keep braid on this rod and switch out different leaders for different things. I just don't know if I should go with MH or H for my new BC setup. I hear a lot of people talking swearing you need nothing less than a H power rod with at least 50lb braid for jigging and frogs. I'm open to that, but I'm not sure I fish a lot of water where this would be necessary. Here are a few things to consider: - I'm a bank fisherman (for now. Kayak probably next year) - Most of the places I'm able to fish hold bass 2-5lbs with 5lbs being less probable and the average fish being in the 2-3lb range. - I haven't come across any seriously heavy vegetation where I'm going to be punching through or around really heavy weeds. - I will be targeting pike and muskie as well but statistically a lot less chance of catching them than bass as I have to travel a bit to fish for them and they're not as easy to catch Based on these factors can anyone recommend whether I should go with H or MH rod? Thanks

Transition From M to MH Power Rod
I thought about my spinnerbait being too small and bumping it up to 1/2 oz to see if that would make a difference.

Transition From M to MH Power Rod
Thanks! I was originally thinking braid but I talked myself out of it when I saw the majority of people tell other BC newbies to start with mono until they get comfortable with the bc reel. Is it really that much worse with backlashes? And do you use a leader on your braid?

Transition From M to MH Power Rod
I didn't think of that at all.. that does make sense. I think my concern is my rod feels a lot more like a broomstick than what I was expecting. Maybe I'll get used to it. Have you experienced that before where you're unsure of gear at first and then it grows on you? With everything shut down right now I can't just walk into Cabela's so I bought something online that had good reviews in my price range.

Transition From M to MH Power Rod
I've been fishing my entire life and always used spinning gear but just switched to my first baitcaster setup. I know there are already a hundred threads of people just switching to BC's but they seem to revolve around getting the reel mechanics down. That's not the purpose of this thread. I spent about two hours today casting with my new setup and the biggest thing for me to transition to wasn't the baitcaster reel but my rod. I've fished light to medium power spinning gear my entire life for freshwater fishing with 6'6" rods being the biggest I used. The sensitivity of the rod and being able to feel every little thing is something I love and the length of my past rods were easy for me to fish since most of my fishing is done from the bank. With this new setup I can't feel my bait as well and it just doesn't feel balanced in my hand when I'm retrieving. Here is the setup I used today: 7' MH Fenwick HMG Casting Lews Tournament MP Speed Spool 7.5.1 12lb Berkley Mono 3/8 oz Strike King Spinnerbait I think I had the right balance with gear and tackle but I just couldn't "feel" much and the taller/heavier rod felt foreign to me. I know the obvious answer is because the MH is a heavier power than what I'm used to, but my question is do you get used to it? It feels clunky and unbalanced in my hands when I retrieve and I couldn't feel the blades of my bait. I caught a 2 pounder and barely felt him hit my bait when with my M power spinning rod I would have felt it more. I heard a MH casting setup is the most versatile in bass fishing but I guess my concern is I'm missing something that everyone else "gets". Could my rod just suck? I have this same rod in M spinning and love it so I went with the same one but in MH 7' casting and it feels totally different. Not sure if this is something I'll get accustomed to or what. Any feedback would be appreciated!

Has Anyone else not caught their first 2020 bass yet?
TriState - What county are you in? I'm in bucks county and moving to Ewing in a few weeks. A few spots in PA are still open but NJ seems to be taking this a lot more serious. You're not allowed to fish right now?

Fooled by lure/hook snag
This happens to me often. Recently caught one of my PB with the opposite happening. Thought I got hung up on a log but ended up being a nice bass.
