6.3:1 Or 7.3:1 For Versatile Reel?
Thanks. I'm coming off mainly 5.3:1 ABUs, so it SOUNDS very fast to me right now, but I'll adjust. For spinners and 1-3' crank baits, is the 7.3 still good to go?

6.3:1 Or 7.3:1 For Versatile Reel?
If you were setting up a new reel on a 7’ MH/F to be as versatile as possible, would you choose 6.3:1 or 7.3:1? (26.5 or 30 IPT)

I didn’t put a ton of thought into it until now, but both reels are 7.3:1. I know -7:1 ratios are popular these days, but would I be better off with -6:1 ratios for multi-use rigs?

Welp... I caved. I ordered one of the Corbonlite/revo BP combos, and a Tatula CT from eBay (one of the sellers mentioned in this thread). Just need to pick a rod for the Tatula reel. I’ll share my thoughts on the two setups soon. I’d have gone with the Fuego CT, but I’m interested in trying the T wing.

Daiwa TATULA 6'10" MH/F Thoughts?
Gotcha. So the 7'1 may be better a better fit for what I'm looking for? And for sure I realize it is heavier than a MF.... I meant if its heavy for a MHF.

Daiwa TATULA 6'10" MH/F Thoughts?
Thanks for the info. I don't currently use many MHs, so was worried if it was on the heavy side of the rating it might be too big of a step. Going to pair it with a Tatula 100.

Daiwa TATULA 6'10" MH/F Thoughts?
This rod specs as a great "all around" rod, and I'd really like to grab one, but I've heard the TATULA rods fish heavier than their rating? I throw 3/16 - 1/4 T rigs, 1/4oz shallow cranks and up to 3/8oz spinners. If the rod runs the high side of MH, or more like a H, it might be too much rod to throw these. Anyone with experience?

Soo.. I guess you could say then, that it is NOT worth an extra $110. ?

Well you’re the one that suggested it? ? But the Abu SX combo is $159. They are basically giving you the Carbonlite 2.0 rod free.

The Curado K is $110 better than a Revo SX?

The CT palms better? Never been a huge concern. I'm 6'6" with gorilla mitts, and I'm used to palming round reels, haha. Mechanically/performance speaking, does one have an edge over the other?

Can someone give me the lowdown on the Tatula CT VS Tatula 100? Doesn't seem like much other than the frames?

Fantastic info. I didn't realize the SX lacked the "support" bearing on the drive. Hmm. I can see where this is headed.... Which is me ending up with one of both, lol. I keep hearing that the Daiwas are so much more forgiving. I've been throwing baitcast reels since I was about 8, so at first glance it's not really a selling point to me, but at the same time, "work smarter, not harder" right? Ha.

Wish I could, but I'm at least 2 hours from any shop that would have a decent selection. And given the current craziness, it makes it even more tough. The reality is, I won't know what's "best" for me, even if I handled them in the store.... so I'll just have to start somewhere and start building my preferences. Interesting. I actually do that sometimes.

I’ll check. The question remains, is there any reason to pay more for the Fuego/Tatula rig than the Revo/Carbonlite. It’s so subjective that I’m not sure that question has a clear answer.

Gotcha. I had not contrasted the Tatula and Fuego very closely. Good to know. I wish I was closer to a BP so I could handle them side by side. Do you have the M or the MH? I throw a lot of 3/16-1/4 T rigs, so I’m leaning toward the M. Remember, I’m coming off mainly Abu rounds, and not much serious fishing in the last 10 years... so anything being discussed is going to be a serious improvement, ha.

Thanks for the suggestion. One of my original pairings I considered was the Fury 703 and a Tatula CT. Why would you suggest the Fuego over the Tatula? Just cost? On paper the Revo SX sure seems like more reel than the Fuego? But I realize “specs” don’t tell the whole tale. is a Fury and a Fuego really a “better” rig than the Carbonlite and Revo? (I realize how subjective that is).

Why does there have to be so many options??! lol. I think I may order a M and MH BP combo. I don't have a BP or Cabelas near, or I'd go check them out in person. I guess I can always return them if they don't seem right... but that combo just seems like a great value. I've read the Tatula MH's fish more like a Heavy. Have you found that to be the case? And I hear ya on the grip. If the Carbonlite 2.0' combos were full cork I'd have probably already ordered them. ?

Agreed. But when it comes to sensitivity, the nod goes to the Tatula over the Carbonlite generally?

Updating Gear after 10-12 Years...
Ha.. .for sure. I meant over the Carbonlite 2.0/ Revo SX combo. Noted. The Tatula CT on a Tatula or Fury is my other consideration. It would be over $100 more than the BPS combo, so I wasn't sure if it would be worth that performance wise. It has really blown my mind how many decent choices there are in that price range these days. I tried to sift through posts here and those are just some options I've run across more than others. If you know of anything else off the cuff that I should consider, I'm all ears.

So I guess the question boiled down is... Is there any reason to consider anything other than the Carbonlite 2.0/ Revo SX combo in my situation? Would a Tatula or similar rod and Daiwa Tatula reel offer any reel benefit? I love the full cork handle on the Tatula, but the BP combo is such a great value.

Thanks. Oh I'm not dismissing my old gear at all. It will still be used. I just want to add a couple of updated low profile reels, and new rods to the list. Heck, I actually still really like the Berkley Bionix rods I have. They were cheap walmart rods, but they are IM7, full cork handles with decent guides. They fish just fine.
