  1. They are greased up. It's just interesting that one of the Revos is dead silent. Right. I guess the most surprising is that one Revo is nearly dead silent, and one is quite noisy. Both of the Coastals are silent as well, to the point that when I fish them right after using my Tat CT, something almost feels wrong the first few retrieves.
  2. I actually may try lapping the gears on the Revo, just as an experiment.
  3. It really fishes the Senkos well. I wouldn't MIND it being a full 7'. Sometimes I feel like it MIGHT be a little more work to take up line on hooksets than a 7' or a 7'3", but it's minimal. And yes... I realize there is a Tat 7'3" MH/F, but I don't need that evil put on me right now, ?
  4. I've purchased a few new reels lately, as I've been updating gear after quite some time. 2- Daiwa Coastal SVs 2 - ABU Revo SX 1 - Daiwa Tatula CT The Coastals and one of the Revos are dead silent when reeling. However, the other Revo, and the Tat CT both "whirrr" pretty good when reeling. I don't know that I'd call it "geary", but definitely noisy. They have been cleaned, bearings flushed and oiled, appropriate places greased, etc.. have even tried various greases, with no change. If the answer is "sometimes entry level reels are noisy, sometimes they aren't", then I guess I understand that. It's just crazy that one of the Revos is dead smooth and silent, and one is quite noisy. The Tat CT may be known to be noisy? I have no idea.
  5. So far, the 3 spots I'm fishing it's pretty much been a Tatula 6'10 MH/F and a Daiwa Coastal SV, with a 5" weightless Senko or Dinger. I keep a Carbonlite 2.0 with a Coastal SV rigged with a different color. I honestly kind of get annoyed that I'm not throwing anything else... but the darn things just produce so many hits, and seem to produce more quality fish. I've tried a few other lures over the last 6-8 weeks, but nothing puts as many fish in the boat as the Senkos/Dingers.
  6. Welp.... I ordered the 7’1” Heavy for jigs and frogs. I’m so pleased with the 6’10”, I figured it was a safe bet.
  7. Not that it applies now, ha... since you already pulled the trigger. But I ordered a Tat 7'1" Heavy yesterday to try for a jig/frog rod. I'm pretty smitten with my 6'10", so I figured there's a good chance I'll like the heavy too.
  8. Does the plan of leaving the winding check in place sound ok? Or should I expect it to come loose with the grip? if possible, I don’t want to disturb the winding/epoxy/check in front of the grip.
  9. I’m actually in the opposite boat.... I’m trying to figure out if I can remove the factory butts from my Carbonlite rods and replace with something more comfortable. Im not a rod builder, so I’m trying to get a handle on the process before I try it.
  10. This could work as a replacement, correct? The ID of the butt is about .1” smaller than the blank. COULD it be as simple as removing the old butt, but leaving the winding check in place.... and seating the new but against the old winding check?
  11. Thanks. If I’m looking at it correctly, I should be able to use a one piece EVA butt, and possibly a ring to dress it. once the old one is off, it’s just a matter of sliding the new grip and ring on and gluing in place? (I realize that’s over simplified)
  12. I should be able to bore one no problem. Access to full machine shop. Any advice on removing the Winn butt? (If it comes to that) Also, any direction on where to purchase a nice grip/butt? And any necessary glue or hardware like a ferrule for transition to the blank?
  13. Was hoping you’d chime in... My fear is that there is no tenon under the aluminum, as it houses that silly dial for the line weight display. The entire rear grip may have to be removed? Which I’d be ok with replacing it with a nice rounded EVA butt, but I’m not sure I’d be able to make it look decent.
  14. Yea, they are such good looking rods I hate to ruin them with a big rubber cap, ha. I’d be willing to put some work into changing the cap if it’s possible.
  15. I really like my BP Carbonlite rods. They really fish great. However, I don’t Luke the silly butt cap at all. One of the dials kind of rattles inside the cap, and the the butts are hard with a sharp corner at the back. Leaves a sore spot on me after a day of fishing. Is there any possibility that the silver portion could be removed and replaced with a generic EVA cap? Or is some type of sleeve over it my only option?
  16. I spooled up a couple of reels with green 14lb Advance last Friday, and had a HAMMER of a Saturday afternoon catching fish on weightless Senkos over some rough logs, limbs, etc.... So far it's performing fantastic. I had a third reel spooled with 18lb Super Sniper, and could tell no real difference in number of hits, or performance. If anything, the Advance cast and handled better. It seems to have very little stretch for a mono.
  17. I think that’s probably the best value in a combo that’s around right now. I have the 7’ MH and 7’ M. If they made it in a 7’ H, that would be awesome.
  18. You’re not gonna regret it.
  19. About impossible to photograph... But you can make out what I’m referring to. Much more noticeable in person.
  20. I could be wrong, but for $175 I really don’t think you can do better than these. Actually not even close.
  21. Speaking of composite? Or any blank? Im sure most blanks have SOME amount of measurable runout, but I’ve never purchased a rod with a curve that is easily visible.
  22. As far as casting goes... 7' MH/F 6'10" MH/F 7' M/F 7' MH/M Composite A heavy frog/pitching rod will be the next addition.
  23. I probably need to talk to you about spools sometime. I can make any spacers or parts needed... but don't know what spools would work well in the reel or where to get them.
