  1. Don’t sweat it, that 7’3” will be an awesome rod.
  2. If you think you love the 6'10.... don't ever try the 7'3. I don't want to speak for Tizi, but the 7'1" will certainly work for hollow body frogs. That rod has a strong backbone. Whether you need the extra few inches is purely personal preference.
  3. I don't own the frog rod, so I can't say 100%. But the 7'1" is probably more versatile.
  4. Wish I could say the same. A guide was bent a little, so I’m hoping that was the extent of the damage.
  5. The red is sharp, and I really like the action on this 7’3. Unfortunately, the shipping tube was ripped open and bent 45* when it got here. Hoping there was no non-visible damage.
  6. I have a few Tat rods, and the 711HFB is one of my faves. It's a solid jig skipping and pitching rod. Action is right on the money for that. I always keep a jig tied onto it, but I'd have no problem pulling frogs with it. Although they are listed the same, I believe the "frog" rod is a little heavier. Even though I'm 6'5", I don't really prefer longer rods for pitching. However, if that wasn't the case, and If I was ONLY planning on pitching jigs and tossing frogs, the 7'4 might be a good choice.
  7. Surely my luck isn't that bad. 3 out of the 5 reels (two Abu and three Daiwa) I've purchased in the last two months are geary.
  8. I have a Coastal SV (100) that is geary after about two months of use, and a Tat CT that is also about two months old that is so noisy and geary I really don't care to use it. I do have another Coastal SV that is fairly quiet though. So there's that.
  9. I clean and re-lube reels before taking them out. But yes, one of my Coastals was bone dry when I got it. Interestingly enough, it's the one that is still fairly quiet. It could be (and most likely is) poorly cut gears, but I doubt it is an isolated issue. Considering another member in this thread has a CT that sounds the same, I've had a Revo that sounds the same, and a Coastal that's starting to sound bad. I MAY reluctantly throw $40 at it just as an experiment, but don't have high hopes.
  10. I remember reading about that. I have two SXs and the side plate latches are really solid. It's just one of them was terribly geary. The guy at BP spun it once, threw it on the counter and went to get a new one no questions asked. I wish I could do the same with the CT. That's one downside to saving a few bucks online.
  11. With the reputation of the Tats being noisy, it seems that hoping a new gear set will be quiet would be playing the lottery. And yea, I returned one SX to BP already. It was bad. About like this CT.
  12. What makes a new set any better than the set thats in it? The reel is only a couple of months old, and hasn’t been fished much. Been greased several times (in attempt to quiet it).
  13. None of mine are 8:1. the CT is a 7.3, and the Coastals are 7.1s. Yea, the Coastals are 100s, but with a more rigid side plate, and a $250 MSRP. You’d just assume they’d go more than a few weeks without getting noisy. At least I can’t FEEL the noise on the Coastal much. The CT on the other hand vibrates the whole reel. Sending them to Daiwa isn’t really an option, as (by their definition) there isn’t anything wrong with them. I’m about at the point the CT is going to get thrown in the garbage. It’s simply unenjoyable to fish with.
  14. What’s funny is that my neighbor has a couple of $40 reels from Wally World that are quieter. ?‍♂️ But anywho, the CT is one thing, but the Coastal being almost as loud is another. That’s sad.
  15. For me, “not being loud enough to be annoying” is definitely a performance metric. But I know what you meant. I think another member, in another thread eloquently described it as “hot garbage”.
  16. I mean... here’s what I’m dealing with on the CT. (Touch of spool tension added to simulate a lure retrieve). No way I can tune this out when I’m fishing.
  17. Can you elaborate on that? Where is, say the 100, gear train unsupported. Or rather, what am I looking for in addition?
  18. Just for updates sake... So, one of my Revos got bad enough that I took it to BP and as soon as the customer service guy spun it, he swapped it no questions asked. Super geary. The new one is better, so far. A re-grease helped my CT a little, but it's getting louder again. You can "feel" the "geariness" more on the CT. If I had bought it at BP I'd take it and swap it too. On top of that, one of my Coastal SVs, has started producing a heavy gear "whirrr" when retrieving. Cleaned and re-greased and tossed some swim jigs with it yesterday, and the whirrr continued. I can't help but think a $250 reel shouldn't be this noisy after a month. All of these reels are less than 3 months old. Been babied, cleaned, lubed. Maybe I'm being too picky? But surely people aren't OK with geary, noisy reels? Am I going to have to spend $400+ to get a reasonably quiet reel?
  19. Without a “load” on the coastal (pulling a lure through the water) it doesn’t make any noise and feels smooth. So off the rod it’s not noticeable. I’m frustrated to say the least. My 2 month old Tat CT is geary, the cork on one of my two week old Tatula rods is moving on the blank, and now one of my Coastals has gone noisy. Even though not high end, I thought I was buying quality stuff. I mean the Coastals ARE $250 reels.
  20. Welp. One of my Coastals has kind of gotten noisy over the last several days, out of the blue. Noticed a few days ago it was noisier than normal. Cleaned it, greased it, took it out today and the noise didn’t get any better, and may be worse. Little gear feeling, and pretty good “whiirrr”. It WAS a quiet reel. Why would it just start “whirring” all the sudden? Revo SX for noise comparison.
  21. I don’t know anything about older fly equipment. My dad has had this St. Croix rod and Martin reel for about 45 years probably, and I really don’t think it ever got used. (He never really fly fished) Worth dusting off an using? Leave it in the rack as sentimental value? it’s a St. Croix 09FF-80ML rod and Martin 6l reel.
  22. No sales and 14 day processing means they already have more business than they are setup to handle and/or their supply lines can fulfill. I manage a business in a similar situation, and having a sale is the furthest thing from our minds (or anyone else’s in our industry).
  23. Unfortunately, there’s not much “new” about it, other than a less attractive braking system.
