  1. Hmmm maybe a M/f or M/xf casting setup? Preferably paired with a lighter reel like the Curado 70 mgl or something. I have this and I love throwing small bottom contact baits and top waters on it... jerkbaits too!!
  2. Got snagged multiple times yesterday while fishing a Ned rig with straight 10lb Suffix 832 braid... that stuff is strong enough to “anchor” my boat!
  3. Just about to be spawn here. I haven’t got my boat out of storage yet, but I’ve been having a blast bank fishing. Most successful so far with: - wacky rig senko (cinnamon and green pumpkin red flake colors) - finesse jig (natural colors) - Ned rig (especially when fishing the rivers)
  4. Hey y’all, What brand, material, and lb-test would you recommend I spool up my size 1000 Stradic with? I have it paired with a 6’6” ml/f for all round creek/finesse rod to target various “smaller” species (trout, river smallies, panfish, etc.) thanks!
  5. Thanks for the replies yall! I went with the Tatula Elite, after some research it sounds like it might be a better fit for what I’m looking for!
  6. St. Croix Mojo Bass, probably in a 7’ (or whatever length you prefer) Med/fast.
  7. Hey y’all, I’m currently looking to buy a reel to pair with my new St. Croix Legend X (7’ Med/fast). Planning to use this setup for jerkbaits and possibly smaller profile jigs, t-rigs, etc. Since the rod is so incredibly light, I’d like to keep whatever reel I choose for it light as well (I LOVE lightweight setups). So... I’m stumped between whether I should pair it with the Daiwa Tatula Elite or the Shimano Curado 70 k. I’ve always been a shimano gal, so I’m slightly skeptical about trying out Daiwa. What are your opinions on these two reels? Is one better than the other at anything? Other reel suggestions that you think would be a good fit for what I’m looking for are welcome!! (Budget is around $300, but willing to go slightly over) thanks!!!
  8. I was just about to make a thread asking about backing as well... looking forward to hearing everyone's input!
  9. Hey guys, Just curious... what is your go-to leader (material, lb-test, etc.) that you use when fishing a braid-to-leader setup? I use mostly straight 30lb-40lb test braid on my casting setups (jigs, t-rigs, frogs, cranks, jerk baits, basically EVERYTHING) and straight 10lb braid on my spinning (finesse) setups. After having multiple unfortunate break-offs and problems with my line fraying pretty close to the bait, I've decided to give some sort of leader (mono or fluorocarbon) a shot; so... what do you all prefer/recommend?
  10. Thanks for all the replies guys! Im leaning towards the Diawa Elite at the moment, but more suggestions are still very welcome! - Was great when I first got it, but after a summer of use the retrieve started to get a little grindy (even with the typical cleanings and oiling/greasing). Also I don't think It handle lighter lures better than most of my other shimano's (Chronarch, 200k, Curado DC, etc.).
  11. I recently purchased a 7’ m/f St. Croix Legend Extreme on sale at my local shop. Looking to through mostly jerkbaits on it, and probably some smaller (almost finesse) t-rigs, jigs, soft plastics etc. Any good suggestions for what reel I should pair with it? I want to be able to throw those lightweight baits pretty far. Also wanna keep the price range $300 and under. I’m thinking of the new Shimano Curado 70k MGL, but I have the old 70k and don’t like it too much so I’m a little skeptical. suggestions are appreciated!
  12. This is my boat, a 2019 Lowe Skorpion 17! It is currently stock with a 60 hp Merc 4-stroke, but I've saved up some money and plan on buying a Minn Kota Terrova 55 (with I-pilot/spot lock) and a Humminbird Helix 8 or 9 for the bow if they every go on sale this winter. I seriously never thought I'd end up with such an awesome boat, it is a serious upgrade from the 13ft Boston Whaler I've been using for years!
  13. Not a rod/reel, but I'm planning on getting a Minn Kota Terrova (with I-pilot/spot lock) for my boat. Also a Humminbird Helix 8 or 9 for the bow... I'm psyched!
  14. I recently purchased my own boat, and like most, I leave my rods laying on the deck so I can easily grab them when needed. It is HOT and SUNNY where I am, and I noticed how hot my rods get while laying on the deck, even with rod sleeves on. Do you think long exposure to direct sunlight weakens/damages rods over time?
  15. 6’8” St Croix Mojo Bass M/XF with a Curado 70k
