Line Suggestions for Shimano Stradic ci4 1000

Featured Replies

Hey y’all,

What brand, material, and lb-test would you recommend I spool up my size 1000 Stradic with?

I have it paired with a 6’6” ml/f for all round creek/finesse rod to target various “smaller” species (trout, river smallies, panfish, etc.)

thanks!

On that size reel I either use 8/1 Power Pro or 6# fluorocarbon depending on the situation.

#6 Tatsu or InviX

I like 6lb J-Braid Grand.  Light thin limp but still strong.   Your choice of fluoro leader.  I choose it by actual diameter vs rated lb as it seems more consistent.  I have just gotten use to braid main line.  But it may not be your thing.

I run Fireline Ultra 8 Superline Crystal in 8lb to a 4 - 6 lb FC leader on my 1000 Stradic for two years with zero problems. I'm about to respool with the Kastking KastPro 13X braid in 8lb chartreuse just to try something different.

I'd also go 8lb braid for mainline. I have a 1000-size reel with that going to a 4lb fluoro leader that I use for panfish/white bass and it's just a joy to fish.

If you want to use braid try 8lb X9.  I like a wider spool for FC like a 2500 or 3000 as long as you get good supple FC like Invizx, Tatsu or Shooter in 6lb you shouldnt have issues.

The choices are endless.

It's pretty much whatever you want.

I have the same reel, as well as various 1000 sized shimano and daiwa reels.

To me, it depends on what I'm doing with the reel. I spool some up with Daiwa J braid from 6 to 10 lbs. The thing about J braid is i dont find it very sensitive because its so limp. For a moving lure, it'll be fine but something like a jig or small plastic worm, its hard for me to detect the bite.

Something stiffer like power pro or nanofil will be more sensitive.

I also use 6 lbs monofilament on my two small crankbait setups. I like the extra stretch and limpness.

I like 6 lbs fluocarbon for me bottom contact like shaky heads, drop shots, etc. I feel the clear line helps when a fish is looking at your lure for a long time.

Like i said, it depends on what you mainly do with your setup.

I've never used braid on a 1000.  I am a life long user of 6lb Maxima Chameleon.  Getting harder to find so I buy it in bulk rolls.  I don't know it's actual line strength but I never break off using it in freshwater.
