I live in Japan and fish for snakeheads usually with a frog in medium to thick cover. Any suggestions on a good reel between 150-250?

Actually we have two kinds of snakehead! Where I live in the south are Northern Snakehead like you guys? Thanks for the info! Going to try out throwing just plastics then! Have you caught snakehead using creature plastics?

Thank you for the reply thanks for the reply! Let me know if you get one to bite! There have been snakeheads here in Japan all over for along time. I have heard from people here they hibernate in the mud in bigger rivers. Snakehead and Bass are opposite for America. People here in Japan think bass are bad for the ecosystem where I heard and read it is the opposite in America. If you kill a bass here they will give you money I heard haha. Have not caught a bass yet here though.

Yeah what I have heard from people around here is it does turn off. There are some bass here but they are in the river systems here. I have yet to catch a bass yet. Thanks for all your help!

I like in southern part of Japan actually! It is in the 40-50s during the day freezing at night now! I’m not sure if you can catch them here in the winter. Does the bite turn off in the winter for you?

Thank you. Yeah I targeted them for the first time last year. I just started fishing last year also. Do you catch them in the spring even with a frog?

Also wondering what lures do guys throw when it starts to warm up in the spring?

Where I fish is most muddy dirty rivers. Is it okay to spray down your bait casting reel? I used a water hose to spray my reel down very lightly just to get the dirty out of where the spool and the line guide.

I live in Kyushu where there are a lot of snakeheads. I found more production with trying to catch snakeheads and catfish where I live. I’d recommend going for snakehead.

Yeah idk why you would set it upside down? Yes they give a good fight and their bite is like a haymaker punch. I have yet to catch a bass only snakeheads and catfish where I live! If you have a chance to fish for them I’d really recommend it!

That’s right! I am very happy with it! This snakehead was almost 30 inches!

Update: I went fishing for the first time with my new Fuego CT you all recommended! I caught my first snakehead with it today! Pulled it out of a bunch of vegetation!

Yeah there is some around here. But it is turning into America. Japan’s amazon just cuts the prices so the local pro shops can’t compete. Sometimes they have sales to match amazons prices. There are used stores one close by, but I wanted a new reel which I got a great deal for. Someone I read online bought the same Fuego ct here in Japan used for 40 bucks.

Thank you. I just order it on amazon. I live in Japan and the 7.3.1 gear ratio was on sale for 6800 which is 65 dollars. The left handed model was 90 bucks! Plus had a 20 buck credit card coupon so I got it for 49 bucks! Excited to use it! thanks everyone for all your help! Can’t wait for it to arrive!

Thanks for the input! I’ll probably go with it! Great to know I’m leaning towards Fuego now! Thank you for the info. Reason I am asking about drag is because I mostly fish for snakeheads with frogs. The promax 18 lb drag is tempting, but as you have said Fuego is better I’ll probably go with the Fuego!

Hello! I am looking to get a reel for frogging and in my budget I am looking at these two. I will fish in semi to heavy cover. Which would you recommend? I am torn on which to buy! Thanks in advance!

Thank you for all of your suggestions! Sorry for replying so late! I ended up going with a snakehead rod sold here in Japan! Brand is Hishimo. As for lures I use chatterbaits, and frogs. The 30 inch was caught on a chatterbait. They put up a mean fight and are really fun to catch.
