  1. Check the videos out a little down this thread from fishnkamp. I bought a tatula ct earlier this summer then just picked up another 2 from the tacklewarehouse christmas deal. Loved the first one and hope the 2 new ones are just as good. I used the videos from this thread to help set them up (ignore the fact it says fuego, the breaking systems are the same). This was my first baitcaster ever, had never thrown one in my life before this summer. Used it for a solid week and the only time I had a serious blowup was my fault when I caught someone elses line in the boat on my cast lol.
  2. I bought one earlier this spring and strapped it to a tatula heavy rod for jigging. I can only compare it to the tatula ct as those are the baitcasters that I own. Although both are great and feel solid the 150 definitely feels a bit more solid to me. I ended up buying another one that I will use for frogging as well as 2 more ct's this christmas.
  3. Amazing, thank you both very much for the replies. Makes me feel a lot better, I was worried I may have received a dud!
  4. Hello, I was fortunate enough to receive a tatula 150 from Santa yesterday. Upon taking it out of the box to 'test' it out, on the third time that I pressed the thumb bar down the reel handle wouldn't move to engage the thumb bar back up, it was frozen. After a few seconds of panic I reduced the drag (it was cranked down) and was able to move the handle and engage the thumb bar back up again. I don't see how this would be normal or okay but I an new to baitcasting as of this summer so not entirely sure. Is this something I should be concerned about for this particular reel? I've since tried replicating the 'issue' and cranked the drag down and no issues at all, everything else seems to work fine. Thanks for any insight.
  5. Ordered 2 more CT's with the TW deal. Thanks again for mentioning it!
  6. Thank you both for the responses and the heads up! I bought one of the prior model ct's earlier this summer and am very happy with it. Will definitely have to consider grabbing another for this deal.
  7. Can I ask how you know this so specifically for this date? I've been looking for a good deal on another Tat CT and with customs and shipping to Canada the BF deals weren't quite good enough. Also do you know if the sale will be on the previous gen red and grey or the new 2020 blue and grey ones? Thanks.
  8. No sweat in hijacking my thread, I'd definitely follow a thread on Canadian deals. Kind of all related, would be great to hear about some deals people might find.
  9. Thanks for the replies guys. Yea I saw that at Sail as well and I've tried getting them to ship with no luck. I was strongly considering ordering 2 from TW this weekend with the 20% off sale but with shipping and import fees it'll end up costing more then they are worth. Even Ebay hasn't had anything reasonably priced. I completely agree, we could use a Canadian variant of TW. I'm one of the more fortunate ones with a Cabelas in town and a Sail location within a 1h drive and the selection is still poor.
  10. Thanks for the reply, I definitely don't mind used and have been keeping an eye on kijiji. When I search 'tatula ct' on Asianportal it comes up with a slightly different model number but it's still $180. I wish there was a way to avoid duties from tacklewarehouse lol.
  11. I am trying to grab another 1 or 2 tat ct's, not the new blue model but the previous gen red ones and I am having a hard time finding any for a reasonable price (in left hand retrieve). There seem to be tons available to the US folks but by the time I add shipping and customs charges it doesn't make sense cost wise. I paid $129.99 for the current one I have and ideally would like to spend around the same. Does anyone know of a place that has an online presence in Canada that has stock at a reasonable price? Thanks!
  12. If you can grab a BG for $135 CAD I would jump on it. Would love to know where you saw that. There is one local shop near me (Ontario) that I bought a bg 3000 from last winter at $139 and when I wanted to grab a 2500 this summer couldn't get it ( as we all know stock is hard to get). Ended up spending the $160 on Amazon.
  13. Wait, confused on your first post. Are you able to get a BG for $135CAD or is that USD?
  14. This summer I purchased a tatula ct (red version) and a tatula 150. Up until these purchases I had never used a baitcaster in my life. I don't have anything to compare with but I absolutely loved both of them. For a beginner they were ridiculously easy to learn and use. I let a friend who typically uses quantum reels try it and his comment was 'you better take this back now or you won't get to use it anymore'. The CT probably got more use as I had it paired with a MH rod while the 150 was on a heavy rod. Although the 150 felt a bit more solid I assume that it's due to the unit being all aluminum as opposed to the CT being aluminum frame and graphite side plates. I would definitely recommend a CT to anyone looking for something within the price range. I was actually planning on buying another one but up in Canada the new blue CT for this year is now $20 more expensive than the prior year red one which puts it too close in price to the tatula 150 so I opted for a second one of those. I believe it's mentioned on the new daiwa thread that was started based on their summer product launches that the new ct is identical to the old ct, handles and frame colour/finish aside.
  15. I splurged for the WP 110 last year and it produced for me. Was able to grab one from bass pro in Vaughan but otherwise you're right, good luck finding one up here. Got a choppo 90 for Christmas and not sure if its the size difference or the lure quality but the WP is definitely more consistent in its action.
  16. You saying he'll cut the line? Thats my other concern lol. Not sure how but last year I landed a 42" on 15# fluorocarbon with a spinner using a cabelas whooping stick! I'll get flack for this but was using a steel leader so thats probably what saved me.
  17. Lol this made me laugh, thanks. Thanks everyone for the replies, I'll make sure drag is tight but not fully cinched.
  18. I've watched YouTube videos and read on here that I should be setting my drag all the way tight when frogging. I'm going out this coming week for the first time in a lake that also has muskie. I'll be using a tatula 150 on a heavy rod with 50#pp line. If I happen to get a muskie bite am I basically screwed and need to loosen the drag immediately so he can run a bit or how should I handle this?
  19. I've got 20# pp on my bg 3000 right now and was going to throw 10# pp on the 2500.
  20. Sorry to bump an old thread, but just to confirm is the only difference between the 'new' blue tatula ct and the previous gen red one the smaller handle knobs?
  21. Lol thanks. I should have mentioned in my original post that where I am fishing there are usually also pike and sometimes musky so I figured better safe to go up a little in case.
  22. Thanks for all the replies. I found a bg 2500 and ended up grabbing it. Really happy with the size, surprisingly smaller than expected compared to my 3000. Should get out to test it next week.
  23. Thanks for the feedback. I'm not going to be using it for saltwater at all, I'm in Ontario so perhaps the great lakes but that would be the largest. I'm still leaning towards the bg 2500 at this point. Unfortunately trying to find stock that isn't over priced is proving difficult in Canada.
