  1. Picked up the Tatula Elite 6.3 last night at Bass Pro and caught this little guy today on a C77 Cordell Big O. Man does this thing cast! The Big O weighs in at just a tad over 1/4 at .288 on my scale. The Elite was able to throw something this small almost 40yds......with minimal effort!!!! Sweeeeeeet....Daiwa rocks ?
  2. Is there a video on how to do this? Are there any special tools required?
  3. I have a Daiwa SV TW that I have been using and find that it lacks in distance for bank fishing. Which Daiwa reel can get killer distance like a Shimano Curado K or Metanium MGL. I have both of these reels but the Daiwa is lighter and just feels better in my hands ? Looking forward to your suggestions! Mike
  4. 733 sounds like “must have”. Lol. Now I want a 734 and a 733 ?
  5. Yeah ... I am seriously considering the 733 too. ? What all else can the 733 be used for??
  6. Endurance 734 vs Max 734 Looking to purchase a 734 rod from Powell. Does anybody have either rod or both? How do they compare and which is the better rod in your opinion. Also, the rod is labeled as Heavy on the website - are they more medium heavy or heavy? I plan to use as a general utility rod - mostly t-rigging. Thanks! Mike
  7. Thanks for all the input folks. ? I spent some more time with the reel and slowed down my cast. I am a power cast guy- lol. The thing I like is that I can put this reel between 4-6 and my lure just bombs with with a slight flick of my rod. Impressive - but yeah I definitely have to use the thumb. ? Lol. Glad to know I am not e only one doing the exact same thing. ?
  8. I started on 10 - I have to move it down to like 4 or 5 to get a decent cast. .....plus if i dont use my thumb it overruns big time at any setting when it hits the ground. How are people using this reel with no thumb...LOL! .....and skipping this thing under docks without blowing up the reel. ?
  9. Got one today - followed instructions by tightening spool tension knob to "...remove endplay on spool shaft..". Did that and watched a couple of videos and learned that just a touch of play in spool is key. However I am backlashing like a MF'r with this reel! I keep reading posts about how this reel "once dialed in" will not backlash. Supposedly you can set it and forget it - toss any lure ..any size. What is the trick to get this reel working properly ladies and gents?? Thanks! Mike
  10. Quick Followup....just went outside to cast and the distance is really lacking with the spool tightened up that much. Is my reel defective? If i put it at 1 and back off the spool tension just slightly it launches. On 2 i had to keep backing off tension to increase distance...the only thing i had to do was thumb the spool before the lure hit the ground or else it would overrun slightly. If this is the way the DC is supposed to work - the DC works like conventional reels in that you can tune the spool knob to control spool speed....which is kinda cool. Then the DC brakes adjust to the spool speed and apply the brakes automatically....duh. You will need to use your thumb though ?
  11. DanielG Yup ... Method 3 is what works for me with out backlashing. I feel like Shimano should have updated the instructions by now if they confirmed to you that Method 3 is the proper way to use the DC. Thanks for the confirmation ?
  12. Thanks for the reel cleaning and lubing for distance tip jimmyjoe. I think that will be the xfactor to get effortless distance. I have a kast king Royale that outcasts every reel I own. I just give it a light cast and it takes off. This is what I want out of all my reels but I have make a more forceful cast to get any serious distance. I know it has to be easier than what I am experiencing.
  13. jimmyjoe - this is exactly what I have been wondering. Based on a few conversations I have had with some tackle shops the feedback has been that mod-fast rods will produce longer casts. Problem is ...finding something that is under 7-5....anything longer will not fit in my car. I am thinking something med/heavy mod/fast. Is there a rod out there that someone can recommend that falls into this category?
  14. A-Jay You are right on about practice ? - I practice so much that my wife has threatened to hide my rods and my neighbors think i am crazy...LOL! But seriously I am aiming to get my technique down solid and get accuracy and distance to be more consistent. I am trying to get the DC dialed in. Problem is there are varied opinions on how to properly use the DC. I want to make sure i am using it correctly and getting the most out of it. The hardest part about learning baitcasting gear was putting down the spinning gear! Now i am only taking out baitcasting gear and I have been catching some nice bass! No more spinning gear withdrawal symptoms - lol Tennessee Boy I have a "dumb thumb" i think - but like A-Jay said practice is key and you're right ...Method 1 (i think) is the correct method not only for DC but for correct baitcasting technique overall.
