Hi all, I am currently working on building a Nfc X-ray C602 Ds 710-1 (7’1” ML) for mostly drop shots and shaky heads but I will probably end up throwing other light lures on it. I’m getting stuck on picking out a reel for it, I currently have a 2500 Kage Lt but I want something higher end. Either would be in a 2500 using 15lb braid to 6-8lb floro leader. If anyone has experience with both or any other recommendations I’m open to anything just looking to stay under 350 Jdm prices.

You would probably be fine with a ‘23 Met 100 but if you’re stuck on the 70 size then go with the ‘20. The zillion is a 100 size reel so if you’re looking for a 70 ish the alphas air would be the closest. At your price point you could get a 24’ Met dc which is a 70 size. Japan lure shop seems to have the best pricing usually but Digitaka, Japan tackle, and asian portal are all good places to look.

Hence the Imo in my statement. I have never had good luck throwing weightless on a bait caster so I choose to throw it on a spinning reel.

What rods were you using when you were doing your test? Imo anything weightless should be thrown on bfs or spinning gear if you want to cast far. The only way you are going to improve distance with those baits is using an aftermarket shallow spool. It sounds like your using the wrong tool for the job and blaming the tool.

I had a Curado DC for about a year before I sold it, they are great reels for beginners or people who don’t use baitcasters often IMO. They tend to be overbraked compared to reels with a more standard braking system, I got a Jdm Daiwa Zillion Sv Tw from Digitaka after I sold my DC and I haven’t looked back. My zillion casts further, it feels slightly smoother but that’s subjective, there hasn’t been one time this year I have been on the water and missed my DC. I would look into the Jdm Zillion SV TW, Jdm Metanium 100, or Curado Mgl.
