The thumb shredders are back
My thumbs have gone soft over the winter, these pond monsters hurt to hold! I used a downsized Texas rig (small ott hook and worm weight) with a trimmed senko to look like a ned or scat.

Ploppers are back on the menu
Wow that’s crazy, I never had a double up.

Finally
Winter Storm is finally gone in Florida, only caught this aggressive dude. He’s still ice cold so I’ll keep hanging up my rod.

2024 Catches of the Year
Ayy I have that rod, Aird-x. Feels good in the hand, one of my favorite finessey rods

Cold weather/waterproof gloves - recommendations
I tried many but they fail to do their job, these however are very toasty: You don't wear them while fishing because the padding and material makes it hard to make out bites and vibrations through the rod.

Drop shotting
Believe or not I never caught anything with the drop shot before. The cold waters in Florida is so frugal that I decided to make it my primary weapon, and success! Two catches, I didn’t photograph the bigger, first one, because of gator danger. May you get logs and lunkers this christmas season!

Tie this on when there’s no bites
To me the curly tail is the “alright it’s time to stop messing around” bait.

Tie this on when there’s no bites
The curly tail on a 1/8 lead jig head always seems to catch fish no matter the condition. Also this bluegill ate it which was pretty funny

Got jiggy with it
It’s been very slow past weeks. Today I decided to flip the bleeding bitsy jig down some grass. 3:00PM, no clouds and moderate wind. 3 bass over a pound, jig bites are awesome! Hard thump, set the hook with a hard sweep 😮💨 Rod: Daiwa Aird-x 6’6 MF Reel: Daiwa 24 Tatula 100 TW

Daiwa is simply smoother than Shimano now
It’s hard to imagine anything smoother than my 24 Tatula. Thing’s already buttery smooth.

First good frog bite
I fished this frog the whole year and NADA, nothing! This lure has been in the tackle box ever since and I wanted to see if the fall season could make it happen. I saw crazy wake under the cheese near the bank and worked the frog through, bass ate it like it hasn’t ate in a week. I have a bigger strike king frog I’ll have to try to see if i can get bit. One of the things i’ve learned with topwater lures like this is to always be moving. Never assume a spot has willing fish, rather you want to cover as much water as possible because if a bass decided not to eat it, it’s never going to no matter how many times you throw it back at em.

Gear upgrade Daiwa edition
I had a 7’ MHF Abu Garcia rod but it was too heavy and long for my use case. Sure it’s great for heavier lures but I often throw finesse presentations more than big baits. Once I get around to it, i’ll get the Tatula XT 7’ MHF for power fishing. I didn’t get that one first because I heard it was stiff even though it was a MF rod, so chances are i couldn’t throw my 1/16 - 1/4oz on it. Slow and steady wins the race, I knew I would love the Aird-x because I felt it in store and it’s finesse feel was exactly what I was looking for.
