  1. If you’re going to fish by yourself get the console over the tiller. Depending on your weight, tillers can be very hard to get on plane w/o having someone up front to help weigh down the bow.
  2. I’d have to agree with Francho. Unless you live down south where you can fish year round, wait till spring and buy a used one that someone bought with a stimulus check during COVID and then discovered yakking wasn’t for them. Start looking early spring as often you can find good used deals as people want to sell while the buying is “hot”. They don’t want to hassle with the whole selling thing and just want to get out of it as fast as possible. My buddy got a great deal on a Vibe from a lady who bought it online, used it once and decided that a fishing yak was not for her. You have to search sites daily, almost like a second job, then react fast when you find that “one”. Worth the wait if you have the patience.
  3. All depends on the body of water. I have a Native Ultimate 12 that I use on creeks and rivers. It’s pretty light and easy to handle on the shore or when portaging. I also have a Hobie PA14 that I use on rivers and lakes, can’t use it in skinny creeks.... love both of them. Personally, I wouldn’t want anything smaller than 12’. During long floats, tracking becomes very important. Both of my yaks track great. I’ve owned multiple yaks over the years and these two I’ll be keeping for a long time.
  4. Did you finish the work on it? How’d it turn out?
  5. I have both. What I use all depends on what body of water I’m fishing. Creeks and rivers, I use my Native Ultimate 12. LOVE IT. Deeper rivers and small lakes, I use my Hobie PA 14. Love it too! Larger lakes and reservoirs, my Crestliner FishHawk 16 with a 70 hp. Coolest thing about kayak fishing is how stealthy you can get. Boat... speed between fishing spots, comfort. Couldn’t fish large water effectively in a yak. Boat definitely costs more in long run. Upkeep, registration, gas, batteries, etc.... bottom line, get both LOL.
  6. Stay away from a Tracker OB. Low end Mercury private label.
