I need a hat…
I wear a bucket hat on occasion. but mostly a regular ball cap with a fishing shirt with built in hoodie. but to answer your question, a hat made for runners is awesome. I have a boonie hat from Patagonia that I wear for jogging and it is all about venting. I feel that it lets in a bit of light thru the top, so I dont wear it fishing.

Best approach for largemouth in the California Delta this time of year?
Nobody is stocking the California Delta w trout. Just saying. However, my bud annihilated them on a buzz bait yesterday. It’s fishing really good now. But as a kayaker I cannot handle the winds.

Looking to purchase 1st fish finder for kayak with some questions
^^^. that is very cool!

wow! I have a fresh report!!
apparently the seals will hop up on a kayak to get the fish. total kayak wipeout. haha. it flips instantly and goes under for a while. what a nightmare.

wow! I have a fresh report!!
I hit the road at 3:00 am this morning. but it was worth it. I was stumped for a bit. my confidence meter was on 10%. I got 2 quick bites and that was it. no other clues. water was gin clear. I headed for the grass. it took very far cast to grass piles, but that was the secret!! I had to be stealth. man, its fun to get back to bass fishing. fresh water!!! no sharks!! no seals!! landed a few good fish, and many regular fish. many.

a decade + of shooting deer and I did a few things for the first time. one is a burger!!
I am getting back into meat hunting. no horns, no trophies. I just want the organic, wild meat to eat. (cooking is my other hobby) this past year, I finally targeted a doe. bucks were out, but waited for fat doe. took the neck shot to preserve the goods, best I can. my first DOE!! I kept hearing Steven Rinella say the best way he enjoys venison is in a burger. I never have done it, strangely enough. stews, stir-fries, even Sunday-gravy! never a burger. I did it a few weeks ago, and my wife and I were blown away. I used Deer-Hind meat, so I did add a single strip of bacon to the grind. semi-froze all the meat chunks and blitzed it in my food processor. best small batch grinder ever. so delicious. I have my last piece of hind meat thawing. good bun, lettuce, tomato, American "cheese"...mayo. boom! I called my brother and told him I am coming back for another doe.

Looking to purchase 1st fish finder for kayak with some questions
buy the FF and a single good battery. then all you need are an extra set of power hookups and transducer and cordage and an additional mount. swap away! I assume both kayaks have the accommodations for the transducer. my 7" screen wobbled, but I DIY'd a solution that mitigated the issue. (Hobie solution)

How Many Line Types/Weights Do You Use?
flouro. 12 - 80%, 14 - 20% Braid. 65lb. keeping it simple. this is freshwater only. weights. almost all 3/16th.
-
Fluoro Thoughts
I agree. it is usually a matter of grimacing and working the line free of the braid. but occasionally, the tip of the hook will actually penetrate the braid and get past the barb. do this while the striper are boiling on bait, and you will cuss. haha. I always put on a section of stiffer Flouro now. cheap, easy insurance. like 18"

thank goodness for big SWELLS and horrific winds. the ocean
the ocean has been my latest fling. I love it. I do however wish there was two of me, because I have flat out neglected bass fishing. this weekend the ocean would drown me and send my unmanned kayak to Japan. so I checked the weather at my secret bass lake. it is in the mountains. secluded. even secluded from the winds. zero miles per hour.!!! yes. time to dust off my bass gear. I just gassed my truck for the off road adventure that gets me to the lake. my new commitment is to rekindle my love for the LMB. I will use the fickle weather patterns in the pacific to my advantage. I go freshwater when salt water conditions are dangerous. gah.. I hope bass skills dont atrophy that quickly.

Latest,Rods & Reels Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
my brother in law got back from Japan and handed me a brand spanking new Zillion HD. spooled it and lightly backlashed it, when I neglected to not leave the brake at ZERO. put it at a conservative setting for lift off and even then, the practice plug almost hit the neighbors car. I perched it on a NorthFork blanked rod my bud built for me. total package made for casting far.

Overthinking Hooksets
I truly dont think about it at all. in the ocean, I hammer them like they owe me money. bass fishing..I dont know what I do. I just do it.

OSP Dolive Beaver
this is my all time favorite. my best color is "Fred" which I havent seen for a bit. maybe its back. I fished Mexico last year, and I bought a LOT of beavers. and I didnt end up using (many of) them, since the bass bit pretty much anything, so my monster bags of yum dingers did most of the heavy lifting. now? I have a duffle bag full of OSP beaver annoying the crap out of my wife. hahah.. so I won't be buying any for a while. I use both the 3.5 and 4". straight shank hooks with bait keepers, and 3/16 sinkers on the free-rig. I did buy some MAGNUM sized beavers and I am going to hook them onto a 3 oz, jig head, and I will send them down 120 feet deep into the Pacific Ocean for a COD. I think it will slay them, since : cod bite anything. they are going to all go, "I don't understand is that?"
