  1. I would bring back a few. But I wouldn’t profit from this forum. You all are much too valuable a resource.
  2. Deeerrrr-duh! my dad always told me to never volunteer information. Well we are planning our next vacation as soon as this pandemic situation allows us. I may have mentioned hitting up a few fishing stores in Tokyo. I blew it!! My distant gaze and slightly upturned lips as I imagined myself grabbing reels and lures by the fistful. now I wonder if there are any fishing stores in Italy. ? my Ace in the hole is that we will have to visit her parents in Taipei soon. Tokyo is a 45 minute flight from Taipei. Hehe.
  3. Mine. COVID-19. Seriously. Boredom from the lockdown. The pandemic motivated me to go and buy a kayak. Then the kayak motivated me to watch some YouTube videos and join a forum. From there the addiction took hold. My fist kayak bass about sealed the deal. covid. Who would have thunk it?
  4. I use the Alberto when I’m in a hurry floating around on my kayak. At home where I have my reading glasses and time, I use the FG knot. Only cuz I’m a FG rookie. However, It’s getting easier and easier and the resulting knot is so thin in profile.
  5. What a day. Windy, hot, slow fishing. Lots of heavy ballasted wake boats. My kayak was like a tiny bobber in their wakes. I fished all day with only that giant hit. The fish wrapped me up in timber and it was game over before it began. I couldnt turn it. The next 6 hours were brutal. Tiny nibbles, mis strikes, cussing. Thinking “what if?” my friend announced, “10 more minutes and we have to go”. (His wife is under the weather) i agreed. I kid you not. I put on a purple drop shot worm. And let it soak. A big wake boat passes us uncomfortably close. He was split between us and some paddle boards. I watch the wave approach, and contemplated turning my nose to it…TICK! What???1. Set the hook gently and a 3-lb bass saved me the quiet sad ride home thinking about my skunk. Next cast, a hooked a 2.5…. Time go as agreed. What a brutal day. im actually looking forward to work tomorrow so I can rest my body. Haha. Happy July 6th! I think the waves from the boats kick up bait and the fish feed. Thought?
  6. I’m never late. I’m “OCD early” pretty much every time. It bothered me if I’m late, so it doesn’t happen. What sucks is when my fishing buddy is late. Haha. Honestly as I’ve gotten older, I realized my schedule is on me. I can’t expect everyone to move to my precise time constraints. My friends are late. I know it, and they are still good friends. just a bummer when I’m 20 minutes early and someone is 20 minutes late. Are you on time or a late runner? Today is no big deal since we can’t launch our kayaks unless the cashier takes our launch fee. There is no self-pay station. nap time.
  7. Not fishing, but I caught the flu while elk bow-hunting. It was three years ago, and I got a pretty good tag. Lottery system. Took 10 years to draw do I tried to motor thru. You cannot sneak up on an elk with a cough. Slight fever, and aches. Total misery. It was snowing the entire time. Hunt ended at Christmas. Freezing. No nurse wife to take care of me… I oddly have not hunted since.
  8. What exactly am I looking at. I like the super chunk.
  9. That’s a calculus-3 level answer. there’s a version of it on every forum on the internet. Cooking tools, knives, cars….
  10. Lots of keepers. Talking to other fisherman it seems like catching is easy. Finding the biguns is the challenge. fishing that channel between the rip rap and weed line is flat out producing numbers. It did for us.
  11. I’m hoping to ready hone down my kayak tackle. Bring what works for me. The Hit-worm. I am fishless on it! I found some online an added it to my purchase. I Was so excited to try it. Hopeful even. Green pumpkin color. last week I committed to it on my drop shot. Worked a deep cove..nothing. The worm started falling apart. The texture is a bit gritty feeling and my hook does damage. I pulled off the worm ,put on my old standby and went thru the same cove. Bam, the fish turned on. I think I got three quickly. the Hit Worm is working for you? I fish it weedless, so the extra hook penetrations beat it up. It’s not a durable bait by any definition for me. I’ll try again tomorrow, but I’m keepin the standby within reach
  12. I’d be lying if I said you all didn’t confuse me somewhat. but that appears to be the reel. FishTanks image seems to be the one. Thanks to this thread, I peeked under the hood and I do see the centrifugal brake. Not sure how to turn it on or off. The white tabs don’t seem to click in either direction. I’ll spool it up and fling out a practice plug and see what happens.
  13. Thanks bud. I think my fever broke. Cough cough.
  14. When I meet a fisherman on the water, I never ask about their gear. I don’t really care.
  15. I suck. I get my shop to spool up. All braid, no backing. They have this way they go round and round a bunch of times and the tie a half hitch and suck it under the stuff they already have on, then go round and round again, another half hitch a few more rounds and then a Uni knot. It looks much easier with the spool removed and clamped in the spooling machine. I don’t think I could do it. Hell I tried and failed. My shop took my line off, retied it and put my line right back on. TIGHT. I can however, handle my own baitcasters.
  16. ….Bass Recon C714MH which is much much more difficult to find. Seems like a good rod for my needs, and I’m really gravitating towards Phenix rods. any real life user reviews?
  17. Lews SpeedSpool tournament MSB my buddy switched all lefty and he keeps giving me his older reels. It looks nothing like the one I just googled up. Which has red highlights is this an older reel? I went thru his pile looking for an older Lews BB1. None of those, but he had this. I lubed the usual areas and it pretty smooth feeling.
  18. Took a mental health day yesterday and went fishing. I left my kayak at home, pull my baits out of kayak box and loaded them up into a canvas bag. Awkward but effective enough. I stepped onto a bass boat. Let’s do this! My friends boat. On the California Delta. we barely got out of the marina when we saw the first weed mat. Frog city. It was on. I don’t own a frog set up, so I was missing bites. Could have been me. But eventually a few bass really committed to killing my white Booyah Pad crasher and ended up held by the lip. I GOT MY FIRST FEW ADDICTIVE frog fish. We hit another flat and threw out choppers. Big long bombing cast got 4 lbs bass pretty consistently. But only by my friend. I was fun to watch. I kept thinking. Man a Wacky would be very effective. By 9am I was invested in the wacky. I was catching smaller fish till….WHAM. a big fish sucked it in. It felt like a snag. Until my line was slicing thru the moss coming towards me. I was searching the moss to catch a glimpse. My buddy yells “it’s a giant”. I was looking at the wrong place. My line was hooked on something and the fish was elsewhere. It got scary. Spinning setup, med light rod, light leader. I could barely move it. My buddy obscures my view when he tried to net the fish. I felt my hook pop off. I lost it!! I hear my friend yell. “We got it!” He turns and hand me the net. What a bass! My hook popped of just as the fish entered the net. Close call. Quick pic/weigh and I let the leviathan go. it was a good day. Frog cherry, new PB, and a big numbers summer day. We boated a lot of fish. 1 oz shy of seven pounds on my friends scale. My new PB.
  19. Koz. I fish a lot with my kayak. I’m actually shopping for a tiny car to move my kayak around. I’m thinking Toyota Prius or even the tiny new hybrid Corolla. my current Tacoma loves drinking fuel. beforeI bought a new car, I would reach out to a roof rack company. We have stores call. Racks plus or something. They sell all the major brands. I would check my options. Most racks I see have a 165 lb limit. Well within kayak capability. Seems even a $500 roof rack is smarter than a new car payment. unless your car is beat and on its last legs and your buying one anyways. koz. You need to tie the nose and tail down anyways. Even on a SUV. Your not changing anything from your car. Except you will have to lift the boat higher on a SUV.
  20. I recently had to sprint my kayak alongside my buddy when he got into a bigger bass. His tiny minnow net wasn’t gonna cut it. We got it. even my net: a modified trout fishing net has its limitations. Even My spare net is only marginally larger. ( G2 net). I do take the bigger net to Clearlake. I never have laid eyes or hands on a DD bass. They have to be leviathan like right? I remember netting a rouge musky for my brother with our bass net. Fun! any stories? sorry. I’m bored before my next Microsoft Teams meeting.
  21. I wear a Garmin watch. I love tracking my movements at the end of day. Love seeing it on a map and knowing how far I paddled.
  22. Right or wrong I gravitate to smaller jigs. I use the Keitech football tungsten jigs. I was clueless about five months ago until I tried this jig. They transmit great bottom input with the tungsten head. I can feel it click along rocks. I love the pause and then feeling something indicating a fish on. Sometimes is a weightless feeling like my lure disappeared. Sometimes it’s a hard tap. Sometimes it’s seeing the line move by itself. Hard hook set and giddiness ensues. they are pretty snaggy so don’t get attached to them. Buy several, buy often. I like the rage chunk trailer.
  23. Yesterday. I casted out a wacky and set the rod down on the deck of my kayak. Not sure what I was thinking. I see my rod move, pick it up and reel up slack and pin the fish. Head shaking ensued. Both me and the bass. my reel was making an awful racket. My new Vanford spinning reel. Noisy, and there was resistance cracking the handle. It was a struggle to turn the handle. On video, my friend even asks, “what wrong with your reel?” He heard it. I look down and I’m not sure how it happened. My line was wrapped up outside the bail! Oh no! The video is funny. Me panicking and surprisingly cuss-free. The line was wrapping up around the spool on the outside side of the bail. I manage to horse in a good bass. I donkey leash it, and untangle the mess. Not my most elegant fish landing. Oh boy. I usually tug the slack up against the spool after I close the bail. I missed it this time. Lucky.
  24. Yesterday I got one bass and a bunch of aquarium sized dinks. On par with my low numbers days. still pretty happy about my slow day.
