  1. Who is Joe Rogan? I do have a circuit breaker inline. I wasn't concerned so much about the draw on the battery but rather the what the battery is pushing to the trolling motor. For the other posters, thank you, I saw the chart on the Minn Kota site. If you look the 55lb 12v motor draws more amps then the 70lb 24v motor which is the reason for a heavier gage wire. I was reading another thread on the resistance part and it's effect but it was a little over my head.
  2. I have a 96 1750 Crestiner Sportfisher. It has a 12V Powerdrive trolling motor that came installed from the factory. I feel it is underpowered for this boat when the wind blows or I am on a river. I want to upgrade this spring to the 24V Terrova. Can I use my existing wiring or do I need to replace it. I was reading on some blogs that the 12V requires heavier gauge wire but that effects the amps. If I used the existing wiring will I hurt my trolling motor especially over time? Thanks
  3. Hello everyone, I don’t have a bass fishing mentor that’s where you come in. My father was a saltwater guy. I am suffering from information overload. I have been bass fishing for 3 years now and last year being my most successful to date. Since it is snowing here, I figured I would use this time to start to prepare for next season. I have read countless articles and watched hour of you tube videos. I feel I have the techniques down and an idea of what to use when I get into an area. So when I get into an area I can think of 3 – 5 different things I can do. Here is an example of my information overload, let’s take a good sized piece of vegetation. I can through a popper to it, run a spinner bait on the outside, chatter bait through it, flip it, frog it, worm it or pitch a heavy craw. Since I can think of all these things, I sit there with every rod I have and try everything. How do I know what to do and what is the right approach. Do I try all these things and then move to the next patch and try all them again or do I just say let me pick one thing and go to all the grassy areas and use just the one lure for the day and keep maybe 2 or 3 things on the boat so when I come to something different like a log I flip it or something? When do I say this area is dead and move to the next one? I live in the N.E in and all the water around me is uber pressured so the fishing it not easy. If catch one for the day I am happy. 2 is the most I have caught in a 6 hour day. And yes I need to leave the water at noon time or I will hit a kayak every cast. I appreciate all your inputs!
  4. I am looking to hear from the Lews spinning reel owners or those with an open mind. I know this forum is heavy Daiwa and Shimano lovers. I have no doubt they are great. I am the budget fisherman, middle of the road, best value for my buck kind of guy. I fish with $100 rods and call them my "Nice" rods. I just bough 2 new spinning rods and now need to equip them with reels. I have a couple kast kings that I bought for $30 on amazon when just getting started and have served me well but looking to step it up a little. Are Lews spinning reels really that bad as the forum makes them out to be. My speed spool LFS are nice for $100 and I can't think that a company with the presence of Lews would be around as long as they are making junk. I am not talking about the high end stuff I am talking about the $40 - $100 weekend fisherman stuff. There is an online retailer that has the KVD spinning reels for $80. They have aluminum body's and seem smooth in the store. Am I wasting my time with them? When you look at the $80 Daiwa and Shimano they use less support bearings and are carbon or some blend of synthetic materials are they really that much better? I fish all 30 size reels because I read that they will cast better and it's better to have a larger spool am I wrong there as well. I like to keep it simple and have multipurpose tools. I have a President that doesn't seem too bad but I am reading a lot of poo pooing them if you get one of the newer ones. I can't believe that the Daiwa and Shimano are the only quality reel unless you are looking at the high end stuff. Thoughts?
  5. I second this and I have ordered 8 rods and 4 reels from SO. Never had an issue with them.
  6. I must say I am enjoying this topic while sitting on another useless conference call thinking about spring when I can get back out fishing again. It also warms my heart to see that there are so many other 100yd for $1 Big Game fans as well. I love big game. It's tough a nails. Being new as well and with all the information overload I tried different flouro's trying to figure out all the hype. I still like mono or braid the best. I bought a spool of yo-zuri hybrid to try this season. Hopefully it's a good line like the big game who knows. To the OP, don't get overwhelmed with all the information overload with the I use this or that. Go find something that works and spend your time learning where the bass are. If they are there, they will bite. Even if you are using a $10 walmart pole and a $2.95 Cotton Cordell crank.
  7. I don't get fancy and understand all the different graphites. But what I can tell you is I have 2 Lews TP1's the IM8 ones in Medium Heavy casting. They are very sensitive and they have taken a beating and held up great for me over 2 years. I just bought a KVD Medium spinning which is IM8 as well. It feels similar to the TP1's and I am pretty confident that will take the beating as well. Just my .02
  8. I have only every fished jerk baits on a casting rod. I use 40 LB power pro to a 10LB mono leader. Why 40 LB because I have a spool and that is the only size braid I have on my reals except the 15lb on my spinning setups. I try to keep as simple as possible. My rod of choice is a Falcon Lowrider Weightless Worm. It's a 6' 7" with a very soft tip so I get the convenience of a bait baster with the action of a spinning rod.
  9. Hi all I am not sure of the protocol for this. When I take a guided trip I always tip the captain. There is a guide around here that will take you out for a 2 hour lesson to show you how to use your electronics to their fullest potential. No fishing and you take your boat to use your electronics. When he guides you would go on his boat. Is this something you would tip for? I didn't know if this was like a golf lesson or music lesson where you don't tip because it is an agreed upon business exchange. Curious to what everyone thinks. Thanks
  10. I am so glad that I asked this question because it gave bulldog1935 a reason to write a primer and get to reuse his answer to me over and over again, lol! Thanks again bulldog1935, I have been in much better shape ever since.
  11. Thanks guys. This is for the main lake that is their. I do fish that a bunch. It is very hard to fish and not good for the kids. The one I am talking about is more like a pond. I didn't know if DNR maintained it and stocked it.
  12. Has anyone fished the bass lake at Nockamixon off the main marina road. I was wondering if it was a good place to take the kids to or if I am wasting my time. What type of stuff is in there? Should I prepare for pan fish only? Thanks!
  13. Thank you everyone for this great chat. I think I got a lot of valuable takes aways from it. Its not so much how my reel is set up within reason, How I set up there seems to be ok since my roll cast, boat to bank and flipping are fine. It is the way I am casting, being too hurky jerky. I like that golf analogy it seems to hit home. I need to have a tempo when casting especially in the back swing so the rod can fully load properly. Maybe its not even a back swing with that push pull technique. More writs less arms. I am going to try Fishes in trees push pull technique. This is something I coach the kids at hockey when taking a shot. And be and more patient through the cast.
  14. Correct. I have 4 pins in the spool, then there are magnetic brake adjustment on the outside.
  15. I definitely swing a lot harder then this guy in the video. I swing like trying to hit a fastball. You can hear the rod whooshing by as I swing.
  16. I will give that a try. Right now I cast like a hockey stick in that I cast from the side and point my tip at the target for my aim. I have only tried with one and then set the mag break about 5 - 7. I still need to try to dial that in some more. I bought the Tournament MP so that I have both the mag and centrifugal so that I can try and fix my issue. I am hoping to get into crank baits this year and hone my skill with those.
  17. Will I lost distance if I set the Mag brakes at 10 vs 5 say? It could just me lack of knowledge but I was under the impression that if I set the brake to high it will limit the distance. I know the tensioner will, correct? Is it better to cast overhead or am I fine keeping with the side or swing type cast? I don't dunk on the side just overhead.
  18. I am using a Lew Tournament MP, Standard Speed Spool or my Kastking Royal Legend. I can do it equally on all of them. I use the Tournament MP for the Crank Baits and the others for everything else I might use. Chatter Baits, Swim Jigs basically everything else. I have a separate Tournament MP that I put on a Falcon Weightless worm rod. That is new for this year and haven't used it much but I am not having many issues with that but that falls into a roll cast for me which I do fine.
  19. That you for the very thorough explanation. Based on this I am experiencing the mid-cast backlash. It will backlash while the bait is in flight. I try to catch it with my thumb but I am often to late for the correction.
  20. Yet again another idiot who can't cast with the same old question. I am not an expert and of course it's the beginning of the year so I am still getting the rust off. But I was wondering if my birds nest issue is from trying to cast too hard. My roll casts and moderate cast have no issue. I have the tensioner and brake set so that when I let the lure down and it hits the deck it stops just like the Denny Brauer video. But then when I want to chuck something out there like my crank baits or swim jig (3/8) I always birds nest. I swing like it's the home run derby trying to get distance but then spent my time picking the nest. I guess I do that because I feel like I cast in feet and not yards. I hear people say they can cast something a country mile. To me that means the ability to spool my reel on the cast. Maybe my perspective is all wrong. Generally using 15lb Fluro-cote, 10 lb mono (for cranks) or 40 lb braid. I can do this easily with my Medium Moderate or a Medium Heavy fast depending on my application. And I can't cast over head to save my live. It's a straight shot straight down to the water when I try. All my casts are from the side. So am I just trying to cast to hard?
  21. I am in SE PA as well. The only ones here that I have been to is Elk Neck State Park. They have 3 ramps and plenty of room to navigate you tow set up. Plus there is plenty of water to test your new rig on. If you want something close to home not knowing where you are at. The Neshaminy State Park Marina has a nice launch as well and there will be plenty of water as well to test all speeds and break in that motor. Good Luck!
  22. I have 2 Falcon Lowriders that I bought over the winter and they are really nice. I have only casted them in the yard. 1 7ft All Around F and 1 6'7 they call the weightless worm. I have 4 Bucoo SR. I bought my first one when I had a Dobyns Fury for 2 weeks and it broke I fell in love with them. They are super light and sensitive. I have the 7 MH MF. Great spinner, chatter, lipless and deep crank. I have the Medium I am using for light cranks. I have the 6'8 Fast that I use for Jerk Baits and I just bought the 7'3 Heavy over the winter for C rigs and spoons. I have the Lews T1 and like these much better at the price. I can't say enough for how sensitive and durable they have been. Hope this helps!
  23. Thanks Everyone. I am going to wait and see if I can get the rod I am looking for with the Amistad. Hopefully they get them back in. Seems everyone is out of inventory right now.
  24. Hi guys. I ordered the 7'3 Falcon Bucoo Amistad and the found the only one they had was damaged so they offered a replacement with a 7'6 Lowrider. I am not a fan a long rods fishing mostly 6'8 and 7' rods. I wanted the Amistad to fish Carolina rigs and some deeper baits like jigging spoons for deeper water. (25ft +) I would like to hear from those of you that Carolina fish how often do you fish more than 1 oz. The offered replacement has a 1oz lure max. Could I use this with a 1oz jigging spoon? What other uses could I use this for? Is this too much to a deep crank? I don't want to just get the rod because it is a good deal if I will never use it. Here is the rod specks. Offered ACTION: HEAVY FLEX: FAST LENGTH: 7'6" LINE WEIGHT : 15-30 LB. LURE WEIGHT : 3/8-1 OZ. This is what I had originally ordered. ACTION: HEAVY PLUS FLEX: FAST LENGTH: 7'3" LINE WEIGHT : 15-30 LB. LURE WEIGHT : 1/2-1 1/2 OZ Thanks in advance for the help.
