Jim, thanks for all the great information and helping me out. Unfortunately being a green horn I am going to come back with the why question so I can learn to apply the reasoning myself. I labeled the spots your circled so we can talk about them. Most of which you circled are drops or ledges. I think the reason you circled 1 is because it's a drop from a point. Or is that the Table that WRB was talking about. I think spots 2 and 4 are circled because I they are a ledge. I am not understanding why spots 3 - 5. To me they simply look like the end of a ledge. If that is the reason am I to assume that the end of ledges are great places to look? I am completely at a loss for spot 6. I am in the NE. This year has been a mild year so I guess we could fish. Usually it's too cold and the boat is winterized right now. But my understanding is the winter time haunts are the same in the summer and I can apply. This is my preseason research Earlier you mentioned about visibility. This lake is slightly stained, I think this is how it would be described. It is around 3 - 4 ft most days. Most of the spots look 20 - 30 ft we are talking about. I would still take a 12 ft crank to fish them and try to draw the fish up? Or should I just limit myself to heave bottom baits (1/2 oz and greater). There is no draw on this lake. It is just a water retention lake for recreation. --Shane

I think the shad in the lake are gizzard shad. I have see a few floating. They are silver footballs with short fins. Figures, I just ordered 2 Medium Heavy Lowriders. Should have spent my money on spinning rods!!! Thanks for being kind enough to share all this knowledge with me. I understand everything else you have mentioned in regards to the topography and the tight lines being where it drops quickly and further apart means more flat. However I am having a hard time comprehending what you mean here. Could you elaborate on this or maybe show an example. Thanks That's why I called it a conveyor belt of boats

Wow Thanks moguy!!! I didn't even realize I could do that with Navionics. I am learning so much from you guys. I truly do appreciate the help. If I may ask a question on bait choice. In my head I can only think of a Carolina rig, heavy texas rig, heavy jig, drop shot and shaky head. I think all the others would be ruled out since I am over the 20ft mark. In my head when I say heavy I am thinking anything over 1/2 ounce. So I would consider a 1/2 - 3/4 texas rig so I can get down there. Am I on the right track? The other think is I would consider the Jig, Carolina and Texas rig mostly because they can be considered search baits in this case. My understanding of the drop shot and shaky head is they are more target oriented for when you find rocks or something deep. Thoughts?

Thanks WRB. So I am I not understanding and looking at this all wrong. From what you wrote, I am taking away that the area circled below where the d**n is should be considered as the "Main Lake" and to the right and left would just be an arm that I should view as a creek? I had considered everything to the left of the d**n where I initially posted as the main lake because it is about 5x's a large as the circled area. If this true then it would mean that the main lake is tiny with a giant creek.

Thanks Gary, not trying to steal anyone's spots. More just trying to figure out how to look at the map to find my own spots. I'm still new and working towards learning how to figure out the puzzle.

@Tom, Thanks I appreciate any help you can provide. I am still cutting my teeth. I would like to get to the point where I can take my 10 and 13yo out with out them being board all the time. The lake is Lake Nockamixon. It is the largest impoundment where I live and is close to Philadelphia so it gets tons of pressure. I have added a screen shot from Navionics. Hi everyone, I am hoping I am posting in the correct place. I am newer to Bass fishing. I have been studying a lake that is around 1400 acres in SE PA that I fish and it is a super high pressure lake. There can be 7 - 8 boats fishing a spot at anyone time. I have had some luck finding bass in grass mostly in the fall. If I am lucky I can get 1 bass every 3-5 trips. This picture is typical of this lake where it gets very deep very quick and can be like that on both side. Then it is relatively flat. Or it has a gradual drop till it gets deep. There is one real point on the lake but that point structure is in 50 FT of water which it gets to quickly and the end of the point is around 70 ft. There are 2 small coves around 5 - 10 ft and no creeks. Just the one little stream that feeds the lake and a d**n. The shoreline is relatively straight. Please provide your comments on how I should approach the lake. I am trying to do something else besides get on the conveyor belt of boats beating the banks. The main reason for the post is I would like to know what these "reverse points" as I am calling them are actually called. Are they a good place to try and fish? How should I fish them and what types of techniques should I use? This is a large mouth lake. Thanks for all your help guys!

Wish my kids would do something like that instead of playing video games. For some reason when I say no more video games they turn off play station and go to the phone thinking some how that is different!

So I am newer to Bass fishing. And I have bought a few rods based off what I have read and watched in articles as well. My first piece of advice is see if one of your buddies has a rod with a similar power and action to what you are looking for and give it a try. Everyone likes something different and although a consensus might be for one power/ action doesn't mean that something different works for you or your style. Me personally, I fall into the moderate action rod bucket because I prefer the more parabolic feel of the MF action. To me and this is where the personal feel comes in, a fast tip feels like a stick in my hands. Rod manufactures also differ in what they classify as F, MF and how they measure it. Generally that ratting is how it compares to other in their line. Here is an example. To me a St Criox Bass Mojo feels like it has the flexibility of a 2x4. I prefer the rating system of Falcon rods. I like the extra flex (soft tip) they provide because I grew up on spinning poles and salt water fishing most of my life. Specifically said to me a lot in this on purpose to make the point that what I like is not what someone else likes. It's like the only saying beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Well fishing rod preference is in the fishing rod holder. And the lesson I just learned going out and getting all different rods before really trying the different power / actions is I ended up with some rods that I paid decent dollar for that I don't really care for. So go try it out first.

Thanks guys for the encouragement! I ended up sending back my Bucoo and got the 6'7 weightless worm and got the 7' MHF rod as well. I didn't need that MHF and once the wife finds out she is going to shoot me. Got that one hoping that the Falcon fast is a little more flexable then the Lew TP-1 MH fast because I think that feels like a heavy to me. Probably just because I am used to parabolic rods.

I've read the same thing to go below 30#. Being a newbie I am relying more on what I read than experience. I think it has more to do with the brand of line as well. Especially those saying they are using 20# fine. What I can say from my experience is I have a reel with 40# generic Stren and it takes a few cast to get wet before it seems to cast well. But I have 30# power pro and it works great all the time. So to use the lighter braids you may just need to fine the right braid.

Hey Tim Hu, is that medium bucoo you are using for weightless plastics the medium moderate? I was considering that rod for the same tactic.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I am fine with that softer rod and actually kind of prefer it. I have one Lews TP1 MH-F and to me that is like fishing with a broom handle as there is no flex in it. I am sure many people may think I am crazy but for me that's how it seems. Coming from salt water (mostly flounder) and fishing mostly spinning gear or even boat poles I am used to the rod doubling over while I reel in a fish. When I reeled in a bass on my TP1 the end didn't bend and it left me feeling uneventful. It wasn't a dink it was around 2lb which is what most of the fish around me are 2 - 4 lb. I really enjoyed reeling in the couple bass I caught on spinning gear because the pole bent and it made it feel like more of a fight. Guess that's just me and my expectations are all wrong. The 2 I caught on my Falcon Bucoo which was a MH MF felt a little better on the fight. And the Lowrider I am considering will be a MH MF as well in the 6'7 model. I have the 7 ft Bucoo SR which I use for my Texas Rigs and Jigs, all at 1/2 once. It sounds like a strong consensus that the Lowrider is the way to go.

Hi guys first time writer many time reader. I fairly new to bass fishing and in my rod collecting I have fell in love with Falcon. I have 2 Bucoo SR's. I recently just picked one up a third one to replace a Daiwa Arid X that started fraying my line. I really like their lightness and sensitivity plus they seem durable. I broke a Fury 2nd time out. However I have a chance to send this new rod I just purchased back since it is free returns and I have not used it and get one of the new Lowriders for the same price. Without ever holding one of the new Lowriders (no stores around me) are they a better rod than the Bucoo SR? How about the durability, sensitivity and lightness? Are they basically the same blank? The cork or foam handle doesn't really matter to me. I don't have a preference unless someone tells me the foam would outlast the cork or vise versa. I take really good care of my gear and have most of my saltwater gear for 20 years or better. I am not looking to get into anything more expensive than this especially until I can catch more that a couple fish a year. I would appreciate those with both or have held them to offer their opinions. Thanks!
