Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
Always how it turns out isn’t it. Since I am time limited by school, thinking about getting out for some night fishing. Did decent out on the local ponds at night last fall and looking forward to seeing how it pans out in the spring. I would highly recommend it.

Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
I’ve fished Reservoir Pond from my canoe a couple times - it’s hit or miss. The whole place is 10 feet deep all around except for these two coves in the southeast corner. By far the best spot to fish is the rock piles by the golf course on the southern shore. Besides that it’s a crap shoot. Been seeing some good fish being taken at night on big wakebaits - gonna have to give it a shot when I get back home next week.

Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
Thanks for the tips. Looking forward to getting my canoe out there Hit up a local pond for the first trip of the year. Had a half hour and fished a bitsy bug for the first time. Really looking to get into jig fishing this year. Felt some dead weight, set the hook, and still felt dead weight. Stopped reeling to see if there was anything there, and the fish woke up and started fighting - but then got off shortly after. Not a bad first trip of the year

Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
Been meaning to try Ponkie as it is only 10 min from my house but it just seems like a weird place to fish… just a 6 foot deep tub filled with weeds not too much structure - do you just have to work around to find them? Nice fish as well especially for March

That thing must’ve put up a hell of a fight. Did you get a length?

Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
Drove by my go-to (though somewhat trespassing) smallie spot last night. Even before the warm temps today and tomorrow the northern half was melted. My first MA fish last year came on April 3 at that spot… we’ll see what happens this year

Herring Swimbait
There is this one swimbait I have been seeing all around that people throw to imitate herring - but I cannot for the life of me find what it is. Anyone have any ideas?

Spinning Rods for Big Swimbaits?
In the Northeast, it has recently become a big trend to throw big swimbaits in ponds that are fed by sea-run herring. Looking into this more I have found that this is mainly done with big casting reels. However, being near the coast, big saltwater spinning rods are the norm here. My question is is there any reason why these big swimbaits cannot be thrown on spinning rods that are rated saltwater-spec (1-4 oz)? Just trying to declutter my rod selection

Was doing the math on if/when we’ll get ice and the FDD formula says we’ll have 4 inches of ice by the weekend… intriguing.

Naples Bass Fishing
I am going to be in Naples for a couple of days in the middle of March and am looking to do some fishing. I believe I am 2 miles inland, and am open to salt, fresh, brackish, or whatever. Bass are what I am used to. Just looking for some basic tips/knowledge - what to throw, where, etc. Not looking for any specific spots, just general insight to the area. Thanks.

I tried 4 times for them throughout the year, caught one on two of the trips. Wicked hard fighters I must say. Comparable to a striper of its size.

Never done too well there. A small bass or pickerel here and there. Carp can be good

Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
Woke up too late today to make the trip down to Hedges - ended up jumping around a few local spots. Ended up settling on a deep rocky reservoir, tried ned, jerkbait, yo-yoing blade bait and a lipless, nothing. Only signs of life I saw were a pretty crawfish and a perch that followed my Ned in. Was really warm and foggy - didn’t even occur to me that it was New Years. Ice season is looking to be short or nonexistent.

Those weekend temps look tasty… might make my first trip to Hedges tomorrow with the waders

Original Daiwa Lexa 300 In Saltwater
Ok thanks

Original Daiwa Lexa 300 In Saltwater
That is the newer HD model, the one I have is the original silver one (LEXA300H)

Original Daiwa Lexa 300 In Saltwater
I recently snagged a used original Lexa 300 off eBay for $90. The reel, while having some boat rash, still performs very well. I was planning on using it for big bass swimbaits as well as some saltwater fishing up here in the Northeast, but I have heard that the Lexa is a freshwater reel only. Would it be good in the salt? Any special cleaning or anything?

Largie was 20 inches 3.5 lbs on the cape, caught in august on a senko. Super skinny, could have maybe pushed 5 if it was fat. Smallie was also on the cape, 17 inch 2.75 pounds. On topwater on a cloudy rainy July day - one of my favorite catches ever It keeps saying the pics from my camera roll are over the 1.46 mb limit

Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
First time out in a couple months and took the skunk. Started off at Norumbega throwing a paddle tail and a ned rig, nothing. Water was really dirty and cold. As the sun started to set, I hit my local largie hole, tossing the spinnerbait and senko. Nothing there either. Wind was brutal. That is probably a wrap on my year - was pretty good. New LMB and SMB PB, striper fishing was just awful this year tho. Good luck to everyone braving it out in the winter. Looking forward to March/April. See you all then

That’s my issue with Schenks. There is a ton of vegetation around the perimeter which makes fishing difficult, and why I prefer Norumbega. I wonder if the two are connected.

Curado K Issues
This is the impression that I am getting from my reel. If you just keep your thumb away from the bar when engaging, it works perfectly.

South side of Norumbega, there is a little pull-off to the side of the road. Then follow the west side of the trail going north, you will then see it down a fairly steep hill. Good luck.

Curado K Issues
Just wrapped up a good oil and rinse, the noise while reeling has gone away and it just feels a lot smoother overall. Thumb bar issue is still there but I can live with it for getting a quality reel for basically half off. Thanks for the tips everyone, might try and solve the thumb bar issue if I can figure out what to do.
