  1. Sheesh, anyone seen these weekend temps? Any idea what a stretch of heat does to the bite/how it’ll be looking for next week? I wont be able to make it out this weekend, but good luck to you if you can!
  2. Had another fantastic day today at my semi secret spot. Fished a weightless senko exclusively, landed three sub 1 pound bass and a decently bigger one, which weighed in at 1-8. I am fairly confident where I am (Greater Boston area) we are in the postspawn. I saw a lot of bluegill on beds today, and the fish I have been catching have had torn up tails and are less fat than they were a month ago.
  3. Thanks for the tip. I get myself too caught up in line choice, leading to myself acquiring a casting combo with each type of line... only 1 has a fish at the moment. I really need to figure out jig fishing with my 20 lb flouro setup and can't wait to do some frogging w/ the braid. Gotta agree with u there. I've been leaning towards lighter rods in general, both for their sensitivity and how fun they make fighting fish
  4. Congrats on the pb, ironically I am going to be doing the exact opposite of you. Anyone got any summer fishing tips? (Just in general?)
  5. Got out yesterday after some smallies. Got a ton of bites but kept coming off while jumping. I really need to switch from mono to braid for single hook baits. Anyways, I did get a 1-6 pushed up against a deep rock face on a green pumpkin fluke rigged on a shakey head. Today, while I was eating lunch at the Needham Reservoir, I saw tons of fish on beds, and while I only got 1 to bite, I pulled a senko out of his mouth. Solid weekend for me though. From what I’ve seen from where I’ve fished the big girls have already laid their eggs and moved off the beds. I’ve only seen smaller males fending off bluegill from the beds. However, as this is my first time spring bass fishing, I am still getting used to the prespawn/spawn/postspawn cycle. Not looking forward to postspawn ?
  6. Anyone know what stage of the spawn we're in right now? Saw some empty beds yesterday but no fish on them... all the fish I caught were FAT, though.
  7. Absolutely tore it up yesterday at a new spot near my house. Within a half hour of launching my buddy got his pb with a 5-0 on a senko, and I soon followed with a pair of 1-8’s on a yum pulse swimbait. I also got demolished by some huge pickerel and a couple crappie. Probably my best day of fishing I’ve ever had. The fish were FAT- even the 1 pounders had a huge belly. I don’t think the spawn has fully begun yet, but one of the bigger fish we caught did have some bite marks on their tail. The weather this week is looking juicy - good luck everyone if you get out!
  8. I bought the battery a month ago, so I don’t think that’s the issue. Thanks for the advice
  9. Got out today on the Charles. While I did not land any bass, I got a pickerel in the boat on a yum pulse swimbait on a jig head. That lure seems to be really producing lately. However, I need some help from someone who knows a bit about trolling motors. I have an old, probably 1990s 24 pound thrust Minn Kota Turbo, and it really failed to keep the boat going at a decent speed on the way back to the launch. I was using it on lower speeds while working the bank, but when I turned it up to full power for the trip back, we were going at a really slow pace. I was wondering, since I am looking for a motor that can serve to work the bank and get me going at a decent speed at full throttle, would getting a higher thrust motor (55 lb?) help me out in that regard?
  10. Congrats! Spinnerbaits (at least last year) killed it for me. Never fished a red craw one tho
  11. Got out to the charles in Waltham today in the canoe. Mainly just flipped a black and blue jig with a craw trailer around fallen trees, but switched it up to a 3.5 inch paddle tail and landed my first LMB in mass this year. Great feeling, even though it was a bit of a dink. Speaking of which, I know they are a tried and true lure, but I just have no confidence in jigs, even having thrown them for 10+ hours this year. Anyone have any tips, or do they just not work well around here? Will have to check it out soon, thanks for the tip
  12. Not tomorrow, but I am going to fish a section of the Charles in Dover on Saturday in the second outing on my canoe. Anyone got some river tips? Never bass fished there, and have no idea to expect. If you are able to get out, good luck
  13. The weather next week though... 63, 72, 77, 77, 68... the bass are going to be hungry
  14. Endured another skunk at Billington Sea this afternoon. While I didn’t catch anything, a buddy of mine Weirdly enough, while fishing the western side of Hathaway Point, I noticed a fairly large school of what I think was brook trout, with a lone 3-4 pound bass cruising with them. I casted right by them with an in-line spinner, squarebill, and small jerkbait, but I couldn’t get them to bite. When I get back down that area I’ll have to hit it again. In the meantime, I’m still trying to figure out the spots around the Needham/Wellesley/Natick area. The warmer weather this week might help... I’m guessing they were in the cove by Wampatuck?
  15. I was about to head to Snake this morning, until I had to make my way back home and head north. However, on the way back, I’m going to stop by Billington Sea, and will let you all know how it goes. If you’re able to get out today, enjoy the weather, and tight lines everyone
  16. Thanks for the tip, will let you know how it goes. Interested to see how the weather effects the fish, probably gonna throw a jerkbait and jig for the day. If you don’t mind me asking, do you have any tips for Mashpee? I’m a bit intimidated by such a big spot, as all I have is my inflatable boat and a trolling motor. Thanks
  17. Planning on making a run down to the cape/Plymouth area either today or tomorrow. Anyone got any good spots?
  18. Headed back to the reservoir that has been just downright producing recently, hooked my pb smallie on a KVD spook, reeled him in, tried to boat flip him, and he got off ?. So frustrating. Hook also broke when I examined it after, Strike King hooks seem to be subpar. Still trying to get my first mass largie of the year, but just can’t seem to get onto the bite. My goal is to get a good sized Larry by the end of the month
  19. Finally recorded my first bass in MA today with a pound and a half smallie at one of my semi secret smallie holes. He hit a 3 inch bone spook, which I fished around dusk near a downed tree. I was surprised none of them hit the jig or Ned rig, but they came up for some top water eats. Stoked about it tho. I was recently in SC, and got 3 LMB there, each measuring at 16 inches. Overall, it’s been great to get back on those bass, and the ensuing bass thumb has been even better. Tight lines everyone ?
  20. Would you recommend Neponset? I have heard mixed reviews and it is somewhat out of the way for me to get to so I was wondering if a trip there would be worth it...
  21. Managed to get the canoe out for the first time at Crystal Lake in Newton today. Buddy of mine had a nice 10-inch perch on a blade bait, but still no bass. I used a lipless crank and jig. While it was nice to see the first fish of the year, still on the hunt for some Larry’s. Tight lines everyone ?
  22. Went out for the third time this year today. Once again, I was met with the skunk. I fished two local remote ponds, and I used a jig, lipless crank, t-rigged craw, and weightless senko. I am going to be taking my new canoe out for the first time on Thursday, and I was thinking to go to either Crystal Lake in Newton or Purgatory Cove in Waltham; anybody have any experience there? In the meantime, tight lines ?
  23. Anyone had any luck there? I was looking into launching near purgatory cove but I am unsure how good the fishing there is
  24. Bite just seems off right now; they don’t seem to be bring anything ATM. I’m waiting till April to start back up again. Good luck if you go out everyone
  25. 15 min from me Got out to my local pond after school today. Fished a ton of different lures, ended up getting a bite on a t-rigged black and blue craw, but he came off. Still trying to figure the bite out, but I think I’m getting better. Still looking for a consistently producing spot around me, any suggestions? I live right off 95, just south of the pike
