Selling a Mosin
Where is the best place to sell a rifle in New England? I have a Mosin Nagant that I have used once with a few rounds/clips, that I'm ready to get rid of. Most ranges in my area (mainly indoors) don't allow this caliber rifle, so I'm thinking I'll have to travel a bit. Any help would be great, thanks guys!

Riggin’ what ya got
Another good read for anyone interested in which/ how many rods. A BR article from 2000 titled “choosing the right rod” by Marc Lassagne

Potential Move
Thanks guys! I do mostly inlet and brackish stripers but I will miss the open surf a lot. I’m coming to terms with it and I guess it’s okay, one less rod I need to have.

Riggin’ what ya got
Came across one of the BR videos on YouTube that seems to help clarify rod selection, thought it would be helpful to newbies if they come across this thread down the road. “Five Rod and Reel Setups to Cover Most Anything | Bass Fishing”

Riggin’ what ya got
I’ve been going through a lot of Glenn’s videos on YouTube, putting together a chart of gear recommendations for every bait. I’m coming from the fly fishing/spin fishing world so I have a lot to learn. Im not used to the plethora of options bassing has. Thanks for the helpful reply!

Before I took up fishing I used to visit my girlfriend in Beacon all the time, haven’t been on the Hudson unfortunately. The wife and I are looking at the York and Charlotte areas depending on where I can find work. I saw a couple articles about Gaston though, maybe we’ll get up that way for a trip. Thanks for the tips!

Multi use spinning reel under $75
Looking to pair a reel with my Dobyns spinning rod. Spooling with fluoro for wacky rigs, drop shots, jerk baits, etc. wondering what the best option is for $75 or less. unfortunately the reel seat on the rod is narrower than most, so I’ll have to weed through a few options…

Could my line choices be better?

Riggin’ what ya got
Wondering if I’m taking the best approach with my gear/line choices. Currently using 3 rods for bassing, since I have fly/surf rods and don’t have space/money for more. I’m open to hear some advice! 1) 7’ MH Fast Spinning rod Daiwa BG 3000 with 15# braid Inshore stripers, topwater bass 2) Dobyn’s Fury FR 703 SF Still needs a reel, will probably load with fluoro for drop shotting, wacky rigging, etc? 3) Dobyns 704C Daiwa Fuego CT 8.1:1 with 12# mono Texas rigs, jigs, jerkbaits, crankbaits etc… I’d like to have more choices for specific applications, but I’m not there yet. My competencies lay more in fly fishing and surfcasting, where I have spent most of my energy & resources. Until we move out of New England, this is the gear I have.

Where in NY were you? I fish Long Island, CT, Rhode Island and Maine now and then. Never been to MTK, I don’t like crowds. Took trips to SC then NC this year, it looks to be more affordable, but I will miss striper fishing a lot.

Dobyns Fury Spinning Rod Question
The associate I spoke with in the rod shop was nonchalant about the issue. He recommended a 1-2k size reel, but even some of the smaller reels have reel feet to wide to fit the seat. I’ll get around to finding the right one eventually…

Dobyns Fury Spinning Rod Question
I found an older thread on here where this issue was addressed, too bad I didn’t see this before buying the rod. Apparently a Daiwa Legalis should fit, if that’s the reel you want to use. Now I’m wondering if I could have the reel foot milled down .025” on either side. I’m assuming this will void the warranty on the reel…

Spinning reels do not fit on my new Dobyns Fury rods...
Really wish I had found this thread before I purchased my fury. The kicker is I sold my Legalis to pay for the fury/new reel, and they are not compatible. A .05” difference in reel foot and seat width is the issue, of course this smaller seat width is not addressed in any of the specs posted on line (that I have seen)…

Dobyns Fury Spinning Rod Question
Thanks for the helpful reply! My baitcaster fits the spinning rod perfectly, so I measured with calipers, the BG is .05” too wide to fit properly. Anyone know which reels are compatible?

Dobyns Fury Spinning Rod Question
The rear foot on my Daiwa BG 3000 does not fit the reel seat on my Dobyns Fury FR 703SF. I called around and even the 2k model is still to wide to fit. Is there a way to address this issue without modifying the reel? How much would a new handle run me?

Potential Move
Anyone here surfcast in N/S Carolina? Looking to leave New England for warmer weather, but I'd like to stay coastal for stripers. I'm told surf-casting in SC is "non-existent", and when I visited beaches in the area it looked featureless. If anyone has any info please advise or reach out via PM, I don't want to be the guy who spot burned. Thanks

Striper Combo for beach and kayak
Pulling a 180 and going light for inshore and back bay applications from yak, will let the other rods do the heavy lifting. Thanks to everyone for the helpful replies, this forum has been invaluable.

Help with first combo
Thanks Thanks for the tips everyone, and that lovely gif haha. I have definitely been spending too much time thinking about buying more rods/reels. I think the next one will be something I can use for schoolies inshore or in the back bays. I’d like to have something to throw some lighter stuff and maybe use it with lmb too.

Help with first combo
Got a Dobyns on sale and paired it with a fuego. I’ve landed some nice fish, so thanks to all who helped with the info. Never thought I’d say this, but I’m already looking to get my hands on a few more. Since I’ll be bank/kayak fishing, I think I’ll be running a 3 rod setup. Hoping I’ve got this correct: -7’+ MH BC (graphite) 6-8:1 reel -7’ M BC (graphite/glass) 5.6-6.8:1 reel -7’ M SR (graphite) 30/40 m-mfast reel Any suggestions on make/model? Thanks again.

I appreciate all the help! I just wanted to be sure that I wasn’t missing anything.

Striper Combo for beach and kayak
Great responses here! To those asking, sometimes I don’t feel like using the 9 wt. I guess when it comes to striped bass on the fly, I enjoy the back bays more. My spinning rod works just fine, but ive never used a baitcaster for striped bass, thought it would be a kick. it looks like the Lamiglas Rogue River Special MTC Is no longer offered by lami?

Striper Combo for beach and kayak
I’m pretty new to baitcasting, usually I’m on a 9 wt or spinning rod. The idea of having a bass rod that doubles for the surf would be pretty awesome.

Striper Combo for beach and kayak

Striper Combo for beach and kayak
Looking for baitcasting combo to use from shore/small inlets/kayak. Ideally up to 20/25# bass/blues if I’m lucky. Hoping to stay $300 or less, any ideas. Sorry, I know this is a pretty redundant question on the site. EDIT: let me try another option. Which baitcasting combo would you suggest for targeting stripers from the beach? Plugs, soft plastics, bucktails, jigs/spoons up to 1.5 oz?
