Are bass spiteful and moody? Also they smell good
I don't think that the bass scent is intrinsically pleasant but rather that it reminds one of good times which conditions one to find it pleasant. Sort of like the smell of Hoppe's Number 9.

From gill plate to dinner plate.
That sounds like a good recipe. I usually do a scallion and ginger base layer, season the [whole] fish on the top side with salt and pepper and the bottom side with chinese shrimp paste and lay it on top of the scallion/ginger base. Drizzle the top with a little bit of sesame oil and then steam for just a few minutes. Better than restaurant quality. And fresher.

What lure would you use??
4" senko (or z-man equivalent which is a little more buoyant) on a 1/16 oz drop-shot rig (to keep the worm off the bottom muck and vegetation). Nothing like finesse fishing when dealing with spooked bass. Caught a decent bass this morning on that very setup in my neighborhood pond which is heavily fished and full of moss.

Fishing at Grant Lake (at Grant Park on Mt. Hamilton, SJ CA)
Caught this one at Grant Lake (in SJ) this morning. Stick bait on a drop shot rig which worked much better than a ned rig on the mossy bottom. BTW, Grant Lake is just a few minutes from home, so I can pretty much go fishing any time!

Fishing at Grant Lake (at Grant Park on Mt. Hamilton, SJ CA)
Thanks, no wild hogs but lots of deer and turkeys! BTW, tried ned rigged crayfish today and it didn't work very well because of all the moss. Will try a drop shot rig with some buoyant worms next. Hopefully, the moss will only collect on the sinker, but not the worm.

Fishing at Grant Lake (at Grant Park on Mt. Hamilton, SJ CA)
Fished Grant Lake early morning Sat and today (Mon). Grant Lake is really more of a large pond rather than a proper lake. It is situated at about 1500' of elevation and is a part of Grant Park, which is located about 8 miles up Mt. Hamilton Rd. (from Alum Rock). Water level is lower than usual (duh!). Water is pretty clear despite having a bunch of moss. I fished the west bank on Friday because it had a more interesting shoreline, but that side of the lake has a very gentle slope throughout, so most of the fishable water is pretty shallow. Managed to pick up a single bass off a mostly submerged bush using a small, 1/8 oz black spinnerbait. When the sun rose a bit higher, there was no shade to speak of, so I left fairly early. Monday I fished the eastern bank which remained partially shaded throughout most of the early morning. Picked up a bass adjacent some tules but otherwise not much action. I mostly use spinnerbaits or lipless crankbaits when I'm trying to cover a lot of water quickly, but will return to try wacky rigged senkos and ned rigged crayfish on the next outing.

New finesse fishing setup
For an unreasonable budget, a shimano poison adrena 267ml rod with a vanford c200hg reel (total weight about about 8-1/2 oz - not factoring in line weight) is an insanely fun spinning rig.

Planning to try it out later in the week but would be interested in hearing from anyone who has fished there recently. Thanks in advance for your input.

Fenwick Golden Wing series rod?
Rod arrived early. Probably dates back to the 90's. @keeper, thanks for posting the photo of the old '92 BPS catalog page.

Fenwick Golden Wing series rod?
Thanks everyone for the helpful replies. The Fenwick Golden Wing fishing rods didn't leave much of a digital footprint so your input is much appreciated. It will apparently arrive Monday!

Fenwick Golden Wing series rod?
I just purchased a new-old-stock (NOS) Fenwick Golden Wing ultralight spinning rod on a whim (it hasn't yet arrived). I have an old Fenwick HMG version of this rod, which I use often. Did a google search but didn't find much in the way of history or other information on the former line of rods. Also, it appears that the over time there may have been more than one iteration of this particular rod series. Anyone have some basic background history on the Fenwick Golden Wing rod series? Thanks in advance for your help.
