Fenwick Woes, Any Advice???
This is a possibility, the rod shipped from their facility in Oklahoma though... I have been trying to contact them, long before the Hurricane hit though... Like I said, Abu Garcia picked up the phone on the second ring...

Fenwick Woes, Any Advice???
The rod was definitely not fine, had you seen the tube. What you are saying makes absolutely no sense, what so ever. The rod was returned to the company that sold it LOL What good would keeping it have done, I would still be trying to contact them with no response!

Fenwick Woes, Any Advice???
About a month ago, I ordered a Fenwick World Class rod, upon delivery, the tube which was paper thin to begin with, was badly damaged, to the point I was certain the rod was too, so I did not accept the delivery and it was returned to Fenwick. Nothing to dispute, UPS tracking clearly shows all of this... rod was never even in my possession. The issue I am having is, I cannot get anyone at Fenwick to call me back, half the time when you call it says they are closed, despite being their normal business hours, when it does allow you to leave a voicemail, nobody calls you back. Does anyone know how to actually speak to a human at Fenwick? Would love to get my $450 back LOL I have left numerous voicemails with Pure Fishing and Fenwick, no call back. I called Abu Garcia, another Pure Fishing company, they pick up the phone, super nice lady tried to access the Fenwick system to try and help me, but they don't have access to the Fenwick stuff. Honestly, hate the fact I bought three other World Class rods in the past few months, if this is the kind of company they are... You literally cannot speak to a human...

Strike King Tungsten Compact Casting Jigs Question
Of course it's the same concept, it's a hole LOL But it's a hole that is 20x longer than what you posted LOL There is zero "recess" on either side and if you look through the "hole", it doesn't seem like an eyelet in there, it literally seems like a hole was bored through the tungsten. I am assuming the hole passes through the hook eyelet too, but the hole looks like you are putting your line through a tube. Best I can tell anyway. I guess at the end of the day, I was just curious if anyone was using non slip loop knots to attach these things, how it worked in the weeds with that knot and how it worked as far as chafing the line. Guess I just need to get them wet and try it myself... You are literally trying to tighten a knot on to a "point" of the head, if the line slides one way or the other off to the side, the jig wont travel straight and will no doubt catch more weeds, hence why I thought it may have been designed to be used with a loop knot...

Strike King Tungsten Compact Casting Jigs Question
Here is the eye on those jigs, as you can see I ordered a bunch of them lol They have a hole through the front of the head, basically from top to bottom, had never seen this design before, personally. Seem like great jigs, was just a bit perplexed on the best knot to use, haven't got one wet yet.

Do/should guides actually fish when you pay for a guided fishing trip?
I am not sure I would want to be a guide in 2024, the businesses I own now expose me to enough humans and most of them are not pleasant these days... Maybe I am just getting old and grumpy, but people just seem to suck a lot more than they used to. It genuinely seems like the people you bend over backwards for the most are the most unappreciative too... The absolute only way to guide is 100% independent, do your own thing, your own way and market yourself to the kind of clients you want. It may take you a while to build a clientele, but it's 100% worth the effort. I am actually impressed a guy can get 500 a day for walk in Bass trips, most rivers you can walk in and fish Bass, you are not catching giants. I wonder how much repeat business he gets though... Tennessee does have some gorgeous rivers though, their game wardens utilize jet drive boats I designed, spent a bunch of time down there running rivers in jet sleds, many years ago.

Do/should guides actually fish when you pay for a guided fishing trip?
Depends on the scenario... I spent a fair amount of the last 20 years guiding, I never fished while guiding unless it was purely an effort to get them to do something properly and they needed to see how it was done... I can't imagine hiring a guide to do a walk and wade Bass trip, that being said, if a guy can get hundreds of dollars a day to do walk and wade trips, more power to him. If he can do it and get to fish too, seems like he has it figured out LOL I have to ask, this guide charges hundreds of dollars, per person, per day? For walk in trips for Bass? Most guides accept up to, two anglers per guide trip. So if your buddy won a guide trip, but the guide wants "hundreds of dollars" for you to go too, something seems fishy here... This dude either is the greatest guide of all time, or your buddy is trying to get you to pay for the entire trip LOL

Strike King Tungsten Compact Casting Jigs Question
That is vastly different than what I have... What you have shown there is a no brainer and I would have never made this post if that is how they were LOL The ones I just received, the hole starts in the front, goes to the back, it's literally like a longish tube through the tungsten... Hency why I wondered if guys are using like a non-slip loop knot with them, etc... I will post pics later.

Strike King Tungsten Compact Casting Jigs Question
OK, maybe not odd.... but different than every other jig I have ever seen. Seems like a loop knot would be ideal to me, they just are not quite as strong as say, a palomar in my experience... Just wondered what others experiences are with them, since they were so different. I have very little experience fishing jigs of this type, maybe so, first I have ever seen any like this though.

North Fork question
Reading this... My personal suggestion would be the 7'2" Medium Power, Fast Action X-Ray spinning model blank built by Kraemer Custom Rods... The ZR series is his top of the line models, of which that is one of them. I can feel a Walleye or Bass sniff a jig in 40' of water with that rod, has a great action/taper for the type of stuff you are looking to do... Cheaper than an NRX+, but honestly, quite a bit better in my opinion. Dealing with Erik is a million times better than dealing with NFC too. LOL
-
North Fork question
All of my Walleye jigging rods and most of my finesse Bass spinning models are made on X-Ray blanks by a guy named Erik Kraemer of Kraemer Custom Rods. The blanks are without a doubt, of the highest quality, right there at the top with only a handful of others. That being said, I very much would suggest working with a rod builder that does business with NFC regularly and actually stocks blanks, which is why I deal with Erik Kraemer. I don't know if the blanks themselves are the most sensitive, but X-Ray blanks built with the guide train and everything that Erik uses are the most sensitive spinning rods I have ever used, by far and that is amongst NRX+, Fenwick World Class, Elliot Identity, etc... If you would like to try an X-Ray, I cannot recommend Erik highly enough, no affiliation, pay full price for rods from him, etc... nothing to gain by suggesting him, but have had great great experiences with buying rods from him. I have only bought spinning models thus far, so cannot speak to the quality of any X-Ray casting models... Most of my fishing with casting gear is reaction baits so not really any need for X-Ray type blanks...

Strike King Tungsten Compact Casting Jigs Question
So I just received an order with a few of these newer tungsten casting jigs made by Strike King and they have a very odd eye for attaching your line to. It's more like a hole through part of the head than it is an eyelet. Anyone else fish these jigs? Are you utilizing a loop knot to attach them? Just curious what knots you guys use as the size of the eyelet is far larger than anything I have ever used. Seem like really nice jigs though... Thank you in advance.

Sunglass lens color
I am sorry to say, you are dead wrong, at least in regards to modern high end polarized lenses, not so sure on Blueblockers LOL You can think what you like though... Feel free to give Costa or Smith a call and ask for yourself... For example, a brown Chromapop glass lens by Smith, there is no difference in the way you see through this lens whether it has the green mirror finish or not, purely cosmetic. The technology is all in the lens that controls colors, etc... not the outer coating.
-
Sunglass lens color
So obviously the color of the mirrored finish has no real bearing on how you see through the lenses, the bronze or copper colored within that mirror is really what matters. The mirroring is purely cosmetic to make us look cool lol That being said, bronze and or copper is my favorite all around lens, by far. With or without a green mirror, matters not, I have both. To be blunt, you really don't want to sway from those colors unless you want a pair of lenses specific for low light or deep deep blue water. I have rose colored lenses for low light, I prefer them over yellow myself, otherwise all I use is Smith bronze or copper lenses in one form or another. I prefer Smith glass lenses myself, after pretty much trying them all. Glass is clearer than plastic lenses for sure...

Stryker rain gear
I used to own the Adrenaline series bibs/jacket. While their ice fishing suits are top tier, the rain gear is, good, but not great. My Simms CX Bibs/Jacket which you can find on closeout still is light years nicer than any of the Striker stuff, in my opinion. Not just the materials, but the fit, design, everything, way nicer. It was little things I disliked about the Striker, one example, they put these huge zipper handles on the bottom zipper on the ankle cuffs, well if you are wearing thin soled boots, sandals, etc... that zipper handle digs into the carpet of your boat, etc... They just lacked some design changes that may be great for their ice suits, not great for their warmer weather boat use. I own a bunch of Striker stuff that I love, their warm weather clothing is also top tier, just didn't love the rain gear.

G Loomis GLX vs Megabass Destroyer P5
You can buy a brand new Fenwick World Class rod right now for $375.00 through A.L.F. I would rank them as sensitive, if not more than the GLX and a much better build quality than any Loomis... I have owned a lot of Loomis rods, including NRX+ and they just have never meshed well for me, most of the stuff I fish is custom, but I now have 5 of these World Class rods by Fenwick and they are really nice rods. Extremely sensitive. I have a Orochi XX Brailist made by Megabass that is a really nice rod, don't own any P5's though.

Fenwick Revamp
I have been wanting to try some of these rods for a while now, finally pulled the trigger last week. I ended up going with some of the new Fenwick rods, three World Class, a 7'1" Medium Mod/Fast Reaction, a 7'2" Medium Heavy Mod/Fast Reaction and a 7'1" Medium X-Fast Spinning Bottom Contact. I have yet to use the baitcaster models, the rods just showed up the other day, but the spinning model is incredible. It really does feel awesome in hand and the craftsmanship is even better than a Dobyn's Xtasy, Loomis NRX+, St. Croix Legend, etc... if you care about that sort of thing, which my OCD very much does LOL I can feel a Walleye eat a 4" split tail minnow on a 3/8 ounce jig in 30'+ of water with it on a bomber cast as if the fish slammed the jig on a tight line right next to the boat. It just simply feels incredible in hand, wish I had tried them sooner. I think their marketing sucks, they could do so much better with their website, etc... you can hardly find any reviews on them online, etc... That being said, the three I have here all look and feel great and the one I have fished has already become my favorite stick to play with...

SeViin GX Series Spinning Reels
I ran a search and couldn't seem to find any posts on the forum from anyone that had real experience with these reels. I have two 2500 sized ones being delivered to the house today, paid full price, not a paid pro or any of that... Just curious, what are your thoughts on them to those that have used them? All my other spinning reels are Shimano Vanfords, so the bar is set high, but I love trying new stuff. I will report my findings back, but figured I would see what others experiences are.

Fenwick 7'5" Heavy Flip/Pitch World Class Question
Good Morning! Curious, can't find much at all on these rods out there, I would like to get a new slop rod for Froggin, tossin jigs and whatnot here in Michigan, maybe fish for Pike occasionally with it. Kind of a do it all heavy cover type rod. For whatever reason been looking really hard at the Fenwick World Class 7'5" Fast/Heavy Flip/Pitch Rod. Anyone use this rod, or any of the flipping/pitching models? Good/Bad experience with them? I read online that these rods are more powerful than their ratings? Saw a couple folks state that one medium heavy power model is more like an extra heavy. That being said, there is very very minimal info out there on these rods and no idea on the credibility of these things I read so thought maybe I would ask here. Anyone that has any experience with these rods, your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

10 Pound Braid
Thanks everyone, I have been running 832 for a very long time, was thinking of trying something new, but I can't say anything bad about 832 at all. I have used MasterBraid but only in 65 or 80 pound, it was good stuff, but knots are very hard to tighten compared to 832 and it's definitely a "wetter" line, in 10 pound though these things would be much less noticeable I imagine. Thanks again!

10 Pound Braid
Does anyone have first hand experience with both Cortland MasterBraid in 10 pound breaking strength and Sufix 832 braid in 10 pound? Is one any better than the other? Thank you in advance

Honesty gets you nowhere...
Clearly you didn't actually read what I stated, which is a GREAT example of what this World has come to... LOL The only aspect of it I was sour about was there was no apology made and when I asked about having it picked up at my house was bluntly told I would have to deal with that... At no point did I make any sort of statement that I should have received anything for free... I was emailed a label, not sent a label, there is a difference here... My time, my tape, my ink, my paper were all expected to be used without so much as an apology and when I simply asked for one thing without complaining about any aspect of the ordeal, having them handle Fed-Ex picking it up off my porch, I was met with no help, what so ever...
