  1. You may be able to ask this in the general fishing catagory and get more responses. Just a suggestion. I would try a spinnerbait or a rattle-l-trap on the edges of the schools of shad or maybe a fluke and let it fall out of the ball. From what I understand the bass will feed on those on the edges. Let the bait fall like it has been injured.
  2. Topozone used to have a decent map that you could preview for free. I haven't looked at any online for some time now, there is Tiger maps and MapQuest too. , there is a link on here at the top I believe also. Some maps sometimes maybe aquired at a water or conservation office on smaller less popular lakes.
  3. I think it does matter more with the smaller fish and they identify it more readily as food. A couple of weeks ago my buddy was tearing them up up on a fluke, but most were real small. So I kept trying other things with no virtually no luck at first. And I tried a pile of them. Although he continued to hound me to switch to what he was useing, the small ones just don't excite me,and we knew larger fish are mixed in. Baby Bass Senkos and lime green w/ gold flk brush hogs did pretty well even though most of the fish were still small. But once you switched from that color scheme they would shut down and he would still be pulling them in. I don't rember what color he was useing.
  4. I'm not swayed as much by pro's or monster bass ads as I am by baits being shown that I think will work well in the conditions that I like to fish. If I think it will be fun to use and catch fish I will probably purchase the lure sooner or later. Something that is starting to have an effect on my selection are graphic demenstrations or clips of the lures being used. I like the way Lucky Craft simulates the way their lures react. As for clips, the only one that comes to mind right now are the Doug Hannon Snakes do a pretty good job of showing the conditions that I like to fish; however, the are pretty rotten when it comes to showing how one is rigged, guess he figures you need to buy one before you have to worry about that.
  5. I have a spinning rig that my father uses inverted. He may turn it over at times but every time I have noticed the reel is on top. I have mentioned that he could try turning it over, and he insists it works just fine like that. He doesn't seem to have any trouble with it at all. It isn't one of my favorite reels and always gives me problems when I try to use it normally. The only reason I still keep it is because he prefers to use it when we go and even comments sometimes how much he likes that rod. I have variety of other rods and types he could choose from so it's not like he has to make it work. I have seen him land 5lb.'rs like that. Go figure. When we would work on power plant cooling towers or locations next to lakes or rivers it wasn't uncommon for somebody to rig up a fishing aperatus of some sort at lunch or downtime. One job the companies trailers were located next to the a slough and a few brought some cheap fishing gear and left out there to play around with.
  6. My mistake, guess I kind of got of track.
  7. That's what we call a jug line, although I have never seen anyone use a lure on one. We use them to catch catfish alot.
  8. I go with about 11 lbs. and guess its 28 inches long.
  9. I usually wait until I get home and repair them them with a hot craft knife but a lighter will work work pretty good too especially if your running low. Senkos can be trimed on both ends and eventurally used for wacky rigs. If the arms are tore of of a kreature bait it can be trimed to resemble an Ika.
  10. I think that garlic oil will spread out in the water better and probably last longer on the baits. I put just about all of my plastic baits in boxes and will occassionally will put a drop or two of garlic or anise oil on my plastic baits to keep them moist. I also will spinkle course sea salt in them to remove moisture if they get wet. I am undecided on the garlic and comercial scents as well and I use them too. I have a friend that swears that garlic has a negetive effect on fish. He was only buying baits that did not come with garlic at least for a while. I'm not sure if he still is.
  11. Boat and sock size will make alot of difference on how the wind will effect the speed and how many socks you will need. What I did with mine was I ran a line down the along the side of the deck. Then I made a lead line that is about 15' or so and that gives me room to fish between the boat and the sock. Then I put a ski float on each end of the line with a snap. I can attach this to the sock and the other end of this line that I can slide up and down on the main line on the deck so that it will pull however I want it too. Letting me adjust my boat position to most conditions. I think at first I had a loop with two clove hitches that I could hook the snap in once I had it in place it would slide on the rope. Later I used rings. I can adjust it any way I want very simply. If a situation should arise that I would need to unhook the the sock, it isn't a problem since I can unsnap the leadline and come back and find it since it has the floats attached. I also sewed some small floats to the top secton of the sock and the added a few weights to the bottom. It opens almost instantly now when thrown in the water.
  12. Since alot of people do not use nets primarily because the string type can remove slime off of a fish, then what does landing on on the carpeted deck of a boat do to them? I understand why a string net can harm a fish that is caught for release and why the rubber ones would be better for that. It seems to me that if I was unsure that I could not lip one at the boats edge a net would be a better alternative then decking the fish.
  13. On a ramp around here they just added a sign to one like that to include 50 ft. from the ramp I think that it really is intended to be for bank fisherman, since it can only be seen from shore, but I am not sure. As long as you are not blocking the the ramp, dock, channel or bank and not willing to move I don't see what you are hurtning. Not being familiar with lakes in your region, 80 yrds. seems more then acceptable with what I am used to. Sounds to me he wanted to fish where you were at or Maybe his boat didn't come with an optional steering feature.
  14. So Mud where exactly is the problem? You keep fishing to escape the pressures or the rest or the world, you still get to enjoy to buy a few lures along, keeping the monkey at bay, and then give the excess to a few smileing faces. As long all elements are within reason sounds more positive then negitive to me.
  15. You could have tried useing some of the super glue you had left over from your fish finder on her that would have kept her home. Just kidding & welcome back.
  16. I have a ladder but normally do not carry it, I do have a rope that I could pull it to shallow water with that I leave attached to the eye. I have had a few close calls in the past few years, prior to that it didn't matter that much if I went over board, like it would now. I was with a friend a while back and trying to get the net and help him land a fish and he either hit a stump or turned the t. motor and I hit the windshield with my side. With my back it messed me up and left a nasty bruse but I would have gone over if it hadn't been for it. He did the same thing a week or so later and broke the wind shield out, that slowed him down a little bit. I like the rope ladder idea that wouldn't take up as much room. One thing that concerns me is getting tangled in trotlines.
  17. There are a few articles on here with some useful info on them, keep in mind that they are useing some good systems. I think that you can link at the bottom of this one http://bassresource.com/fishing/fishing_electronics.html Or go to the top under articles then fishing equipment tips and scroll down.
  18. I'll never use spider wire again. But I really like Super Braid by Stren and I use it on bait casters. We don't have many rocks around here but weeds and stumps I haven't had any trouble. I tried playing around with it on a med cataway rod with crankbaits but never got a bite (really slow day) so I can't say how it does there, but you sure could tell what the lure was doing and it cast like a dream. Most of our waters have a green stain so I haven't noticed that the line stands out in it. I'm useing 14 (6#dia) and 30lb.(8#dia) I belive that I presently have mine on med/hvy rods but for pitching I wouldn't think that it would hurt to use a hvy. action
  19. If it is a private cemetary you may be able to still get permission from the land owner. We used used to camp in this really neat spot in the woods by a creek when we were young, I guess in Jr. High and come to find out it was on the edge of a really old cemetary 1700 and 1800's. We never bothered it except to look around, it never bothered us and the land owner didn't mind. So if the decicion was based on underage drinking it wouldn't hurt to ask.
  20. Is this a slump or a confidence thing? I'd be confident that it's a slump. Examine their styles they are probably just working slower or deeper, ect. then you are.
  21. I would guess that transducer is going bad, the signals may be getting weak. It works both as a reciever and transmitter so if you are still getting readings at slower speeds that is what I would check first. If it were in the main unit it seems like it would effect it at all speeds. On mine the speed is read from a seperate scensor possibly even mechanical.
  22. If the 2 -3' increase is based on the diameter of the planet, that wouln't effect the area or volume as much as the shape, which still would be minute but could cause tides. I've never really studied it, since the moon was made of cheese when I went to school.
  23. We have a family friend or more like an adopted member who is an older lady that is now in her 90's even though she doesn't act or look anywhere close to it. She just recently decided she might should consider to sell her boats, in case she had a problem. She has always loved to fish and knows her stuff, she also is a big believer when it comes to the moon phase and quick to pull out the alminac anytime a reason arises. She believes the moon effects the production of garden plants and even the amount of dirt dug out of a post hole, so far I can't disprove her predictions, many times anyway. But, when it comes to fishing she's always been - Let's go!
