Can a surf spinning rod be used for inshore fishing from a bank or pier?

what's the plan? I live in Knoxville ad fish on TVA lakes, so I am very interested. I understand these carp are already in Kentucky Lake.

Those carp are going to ruin bass fishing or fishing for any other species. I read articles that say there is no hope, that it is inevitable tha these carp take over all of our lakes and rivers. I say we can get rid of them. One thing humans have been able to do with extraordinary success is eliminate certain species of wildlife. I contend that with a plan and several options pursued simultaneously we can eliminate this pest. Any ideas about what we can do?

LOL, Amazon had the 2500 at reduced price of $99. I could not resist. Bought it Tuesday and it will be delivered tomorrow. I may try it on a medium rod. At 9.3 ounces it's not really that much heavier than other reels. If I don't like it there, I will move it to the MH.

OK, you are right, I misread the description of the BG. It does not say aluminum machine cut gears.

The BG description claims the gears are machine cut aluminum, unless I misinterpreted the description. Are you talking about the current model?

What do you think? I would be using it on a medium heavy St. Croix triumph. I am a recreational bank fisherman, not a pro.

I like an anti reverse switch. That is the one thing I do not like about the stradic.

OK, how do you land, handle and safely release a fish that you catch on a pier, with rails, that is several feet above the water. I am not being sarcastic, this is an honest question.

Most of them will not survive long term.

I tie the hook on as shown in the video linked below. I am a land based fisherman so I always cast. I have never thought about using a swivel, maybe I should try it. I have not noticed a problem with line twist while using a drop shot, but I don't catch as many fish as most people on this board.

Has anyone used the above baitcaster? What do you think about it?

Do you go through the gills to cut the hook?

What type/brand and size cutters do you use? I need to get a pair.
