  1. Definitely agree! I fish spillways a-lot and I always watch how high or low the water is. It always has cover (rocks) and I also go down the shore line and cut down some smaller trees to create cover. I very rarely get skunked by having those changing water depth and cover. I am one of those that will throw everything in the tacklebox at them I’ll admit haha but a few techniques that always work for me in that area are jerkbaits, chatter baits, 1/2 jigs, u heads with a fineke worm, and the good ole Texas rig.
  2. I'm not too sure if the weed guards actually affect hookup ratio. There could be a 50/50 chance that, that is happening. But I think it has to do with how long you wait after they take the jig in their mouth to set the hook. I usually treat it as a frog, only difference is instead of counting to two I wait until my line starts moving then BOOM. A nice swift hook set, I've only ever missed them when I didn't give the bass time to fully eat the jig. But I agree with others if you're fishing a place with no snags and vegetation then there's no need for it. I fish red river which is full of snags and I HAVE to have a weed guard or I'll be losing jigs left and right.
  3. Former Airman here! 5 years 4 months medically discharged 2016-2021
  4. Hello! I recently got back into bass fishing and fishing in general after I got medically discharged from the Air-Force. I have been fishing since I was about 4 years old. I became fascinated with bass fishing when I received my first Bill Dance DVD ( the spinnerbait one ) and boom my passion began. Since getting out of the military I finally decided to chase my dreams of educating people on fishing and also helping them find bargains! It has been a great community to be apart of and I wanted to broaden my horizons to joining forums. I'm honored to be apart of this forum. The bass resource YouTube channel actually helped me a-lot in my dark times in the military. I hope to gain more knowledge and friendships along my journey of following my dreams! Thank y'all for having me here!
