Ugly sticks are legendary rods. Make great pike rods . Cranks and mepps work well on them as well as top water . Jigging the bottom ? No . But neither is any crankbait rod. If you need a good treble hook rod without breaking the bank ugky stil elite is way to go.

Just got this rod today in 8 ft med. light for float and fly . You think a 2500 series reel would be good for this rod?

Lol!!! …No one has a sword here only fishing rods on my end . I am looking at the 7’6 elite medium light spinning for a float and fly rod . But it’s only in one piece and I need a 2 piece. I have the 7 ft ultra light casting for one of my bfs reels and it launches a 1/8 spoon like 70 ft . Its whippy but I got it for micro cranks , traps etc for river smallmouth .

Lol!! Don’t kill your throat too much we are just discussing a rod ! Life goes on! Look at the track record which speaks for its self. Look at every best rod for this or that rating. Ugly stick always in the mix. Why? Because you can do most things with it without breaking the bank. Is it the best rod for all situations? No. For treble hook lures it would be hard to find a better rod . I would have no problem mixing on some ugly stick elites with my more expensive high end graphites which kind you are all made overseas and are overpriced when you discover we’re to get the equivalent rod for penny’s on the dollar. Any rod can catch a fish. Most cath the fisherman.

Ugly stick are legendary rods and take a back seat to no rod. I have been on the whole bass rod journey with high priced rods and let me tell you your overpaying to begin with on stuff that doesn’t matter in the least for fishing. I have had more good times on a ugly stik than my st . Croix rod which I hardly touch any more. The ugly stick make great treble hook lure rods . No need to pay for a high priced crank bait rod when the ugly stick smokes them for 1/3 of the price .

I did not know magna thin was discontinued. No wonder bass pro was out of it . I ordered mine thru sportman warehouse. I will have to stock up thru different vendors.

2 words . Stren magnathin . The best mono on the planet . 10 lb for medium spinning , 16 lb for medium baitcaster, 20 lb for medium hvy baitcaster . Done.
