my other nephews 1st bass!!
this is bishop, the one who was scared of everything last year. well i handed him the scooby doo combo and after about five minutes he had the casting down to a T. i had him rigged with a weightless trick worm. i wasnt really planning on catching anything i just wanted them to practice casting. few minutes later he was reelin in this hawg!! all by himself, it took a bit of coaxing to get him to hold the fish but he finally lipped it like a pro. taylor(the one from my other thread) did good too, but he need tpo practice casting some more. we had a good time, i caught one too that was actually smaller than bishop's!!

Backing off Drags
i agree with this. i dont retie unless i am changing my bait, or the line breaks. and i certainly dont baby my gear. i know i should but i just dont. when i lip a fish i just chuck the rod and reel down or whatever to un-hook the fish. my buddy did step on one of my rods once, but it didnt break, cracked the finish in one spot but i repaired it. i guess my thoughts are this. i am out to enjoy the outdoors and catch some bass, not worry about scratching my gear. i dont use really high end stuff, but even if i did i would still treat it the same. Gotta ask yall about ugly stiks
i started out about a year ago with berkley cherrywood rods and cardinal 100 series reels(spinning) and round abu(casting). as far as the reels go i would use either one still. but the rods is a different story. i own two rods now. one is a custom on a shikari blank that ronnie built for me, the other is on an allstar blank that i built with keiths help. they are both way more sensitive and much more enjoyable to fish with. has it helped me catch more fish? absolutely not, actually if i look back over the past year or so, i have NOT had as good of numbers this year as last. DO I FISH FOR THE RITE OR WRONG REASON????
part of the enjoyment for me with bass fishing is trying to figure out what bait to use. like yesterday my buddy and i were out, i was throwing a white spinnerbait and couldnt buy a bite. he started throwing a chartruse one and caught two bass, so i switched to white/chartruse and i caught one. the things like that are what i like. but most of all it is being outside!! what else would i be doing? sitting on my duff watching TV? i love fishing and i dont understand how anyone could not!! My outing with my nephew
i have been promising my nephew taylor i would take him fishing all week. so yesterday we went to walmart and got him a real "mans" pole. i bought a berkley cherrywood 5'6" light and a mitchell avocet II reel for it. its actually a pretty nice setup. anyway today i only worked a half day so i picked him up early from school and we headed out, but not before stopping to get some snacks(funyuns, his choice) and drinks(water, my choice) we got there and it was non stop action from the first cast to the last. we caught a ton of blue gill!! he did all the work besides the casting, and we split the difference on baiting the hook. he did great and not any complaints from him for about two hours, then he said he wanted to go home, so we left. it was great and i really look forward to molding him into a fine young angler. here are some pics of him and a couple of me when i went out later without him. i caught the bass and crappie both on a spinnerbait. thanks for lookin!! Fishing Alone or With a Buddy
i dont care either way, as long as i get to go fishing!! i when i fish on the golf course(most of the time) i fish with my buddy, because i cant go to the golf course without am as i am not a member. when i fish the tanks, i go by myself, it is the same buddies uncle who owns the tanks, but i have permission to go with out my buddy. basically if i go during the week i go to the tanks, close to home, dont need buddy, weekends i go to the course, need buddy a bit further drive!! Tackle boxes
yeah i know that box. the problem is i only need one or possibly two boxes. and a bigger pocket for my plastics. a seperate pocket, i hate having to move all my bags of plastics aside to get the box back in place. but it also needs to be small for two reasons, one i am on foot and dont want to drag around a huge box, second, i dont have or plan to have enough tackle to fill a huge box. but my bags of plastics take up the most space and are used more frequently. sorry to hijack this thread by the way Cliff

Taking a trip to minnesota need some info on it
if your in the duluth area, there is a smaller lake called "Island Lake" lots of shore access and you can catch smallmouth bass, pike, muskie, walleye and panfish. that was my main lake when i lived there, but i was more into the pike and walleye than the smallies (idiot!!) Cliff P.S. also there is a TON of touristy things to do in duluth!! ;D

Tackle boxes
i have yet to find a tackle box that i like. i want something relatively small(falcon V4 speed bag size-ish)l, with enough space for one or two plastic boxes to hold hard baits and terminal, a seperate, larger compartment to stuff full of soft plastics, and a few other smaller compartments for camera, pliers etc etc. if anyone knows of this box, please let me know. i dont think it exists. everything i see just has room for like 4 boxes and thats about it. Lake Fork Magic Shad?
i have had good luck with these using either a gammy EWG 4/0 or this other weighted EWG hook i got at walmart, i think "arkie" is the brand and they are red with the weight on the shank. its best to insert the eye of the hook first then tie on to your line, that way you don't have to force the weight through the head of the bait. i have had no hook up issues either way, every fish that bit got caught, except for one, which is a whole other story. i usually buy the pack of just the minnows, not the ones that come pre-rigged on that jig head. revo issues?
well i contacted Abu and told them my problems, they said to send it to them and i would receive and invoice for charges in the mail. they said there is a one year warranty, which my reel falls under, but i have no receipt to prove this, do they have a way to track each reel where it was sold and when? i would think they would repair it for nothing? am i assuming too much by this? i dont know what to do. if i send it in, how long will they have it? it would probably be faster(possibly cheaper) to just have my reel guy fix it, sell it, and buy another brand reel, or just go back to a C3 cause i know they are durable and will last.
