Toy for Soft Bird Lure
Interesting thoughts on it, thanks everyone. If it does do well, then my only problem will be continued supply of them.

Toy for Soft Bird Lure
I seen this soft silicone toy, and my first thought was "bird bait!" I rigged it with a 4/0 EWG hook. It's dang tough and I think it'll hold up if I do catch fish on it. I plan to use a hook to run the line from the front of the beak into the opening in the head and tie onto the hook. I figure the opening would be just about right for a split shot, if I need weight. It's just about weightless as is, and the hook acts as a keel to keep the bird upright. So how does everyone reckon it'll work?

beer. i am NOT judging. i love beer.
I wouldn't be comfortable being on a boat if the other person was drinking beer. I'm not comfortable being on dry land around those consuming alcohol either though. My dad was an alcoholic, so I've never had the desire for it.

Help school me on blade baits.
You bet! That is a nice one, good and fat. Maybe I'll have to give the blade baits a try before winter.

Steve Kennedy and Crankbaits
This is new to me. I'm interested in reading / hearing about these tests.

How to choose what bait to throw?
I'm interested in what others will chime in with. I generally start with a topwater, like a Spit'n Image or popper. Then its worms/lizards, spinnerbaits, crankbaits. If those aren't producing it's a free-for-all as to what I might try. I often intend to fish a specific lure to get better with it and stick with it no matter what.

Help school me on blade baits.
I appreciate this thread very much. I'm going to be learning how to fish blade lures this wintertime, and I enjoy learning new lures and techniques. Much useful insight shared here, thanks all.

Eating while fishing
An interesting question and responses thus far. I don't generally go more than 3-4 hours but even then I have water and something light for a snack like crackers, pecans, or chips. If I was going out all day, I'd also have a gatorade, and something decent to eat like several sandwiches. I can't go without eating or my sugar drops and I feel poorly.

How often do you change line?
I'll definitely have to try it. My cheap one is Eagle Claw branded so I got ya beat for cheaper. I got it at a yardsale for 75¢ last year. I actually got 4 combos for $3.00. That one, and 3 spincasters.

How often do you change line?
An interesting discussion. I especially appreciate the tips on keeping line from twisting on a spinning reel. I've been having trouble with that, but chocked it up to using a cheap spinning rig. I'll have to go all hand closing and see if it cures the issue. I got in the habit of hand closing some years back when I had a vintage reel that needed it from wear, so it's not hard change for me. I generally use mono and I change it either once per season or when it starts getting a little worn. I don't like chancing line that is questionable.

The Found Lures Thread
Yep, I did some research and found what it is. The hardware is actually in good shape. I may try to replace the wood and hooks and duplicate it if I get energetic. I'll have to do some research on if it actually works first though. No telling how long it's b been out there, but it was in an easy spot not far from where everyone stands to cast.

The Found Lures Thread
I found these the other day. The tiny one is a Rebel Teeny-R The white one, is a creek chub darter. I am going to restore it I think. I'll post about it when I get more pictures and get further along on it. I found these a few days ago too. I gave the frog, choppo and rooster tail copy to a new angler I'm helping get started. That old one is a frog crank bait is is marked paw paw. I haven't done any research on it yet.

I had a fish break my line right at the bank yesterday.
I appreciate the replies. I’ll defiantly try for the fish when I go back. Be pretty cool to catch whatever it was and have my lizard and hook still there.

I talked to a guy that knows the lake better than me and he said that there is a few scarce gar in there. I’ve never tangled with one of them before. Do they break line off?

I did finally read the whole found lures thread. Very interesting what folks find. Some interesting rigging too. I’ll have to put up some more pictures.

Thanks for letting me know. I’ve not found any GS baits yet. That’s a nice haul.

I went back today, no sign of the line breaker in the area. Fished a couple hours and found a few lures too.

That's good thinking. I wasn't considering that, because I'll be fishing from the same bank, and there is some light bushes there in front of that spot. I was saying, I'd back off up the bank a ways instead of getting right on the spot, like I had been when I was broke off. That's one reason it surprised me, because I was sitting on the bank at the time, right in front of the spot.

Nice assortment. I've never seen a plopper like that black one, what make is it?

Thanks for sharing @Big Hands, and all. I'm planning on going tomorrow. Thinking my game plan out. Think I'll sneak to the spot, and ease a lizard in there from father up the bank so that if he's watching it don't spook him. I'm thinking, first a lizard, and then a senko.

Nothing toothy in there. Yes I am.

I had a fish break my line right at the bank yesterday.
I was fishing Freeman Lake, the local city lake, and I had an interesting thing happen. I was throwing a weedless/weightless lizard (vintage rattlesnake brand), anyways, I was slow pulling it along the bottom and letting it rest intermittently, and when I got about 3' from shore I saw the water bulge and a fish grabbed it and broke it off with such power that it snapped my 10 pound trilene without moving my rod hardly at all. I had my rod tip down, unfortunately if I'd had it up a bit, I may have had a chance. My drag wasn't set too high, so I guess I had an abraided spot in the line is all I can figure. I hate it though, I hope the fish spit it back out. The shore drops off to about 2'-3' here, and I'm not sure what type of fish it was, maybe a large bass or a catfish. I fished that area a while with lizards and senkos in hopes to catching that monster to remove the hook.

I'd guess it would work pretty good staying right side up with that much keel weight from the hook. I cleaned the rust up and rerigged it, heck I'll probably try it. Might be the stuff on the pond I frequent.

you working stiffs. do you play hookie to fish?
I work at a place that is pretty lenient as far as schedule. Provided we weren't crushed with orders, we could take a half day offer or a day to go fishing, with no pay of course. Myself and my buddy often went fishing a couple hours at lunch to a spot up the road, when we both worked there and had the spot. I currently work from home, but for the same company. Thankful for my family and work situation.
