I’ve become a fan of the fg knot. I use the tricks recommended earlier. I have also adopted a few new? tricks. One is that I tie a double surgeons loop at the braid tag end. This improves my purchase when snugging up the knot as old age has weakened my grip.
Second, I bought a line tightening tool, but I find it a bit clumsy esp. with lighter braid. As I am known to enjoy wine/sparkling wine frequently, I save the wine bottle corks to use for tightening the line. The mushroom shaped champagne cork works nicely with the double surgeon loop tag end. On the other end, I do around 7 non overlapping wraps of braid around the cork and then pull both corks tightly. The braid bites into the cork a bit, but the braid wraps snug up nicely and darken a few shades around the leader.
Thus far, this works nicely with no knot failures to date on a good range of braided line (#2 to #12) with #20-#120+ mono leaders.
