  1. Thanks for your input. Those Engels seem to set the standards.
  2. That's what I am finding in the summertime. Losing a lot of live bait. I have plenty of artificial bait. A drill? Am I missing something? Thanks all and tight lines.
  3. That's a great idea! I am beginning to learn that minnows don't do well in the heat. Thanks another interesting idea. Thanks everyone for the suggestions and ideas. Seems like cold water and providing some cover will help. I throw a lot of live bait away, perhaps don't use live bait in summer is also a solution.
  4. much appreciated
  5. Hmmm, interesting option. Never thought of that. Good idea, and less expensive. Thanks. Do you add ice once in a while, or do you have an insulated bucket?
  6. Wanting to purchase a minnow/live bait bucket with aerator and there are so many to choose from. I want a durable bucket, so probably opt-out of the soft sided collapsable type, unless someone has had good experience with them. Some take AA batteries, others take D cell, some are rechargeable and I like that idea, but what happens when they go dead on a lake or when shore fishing. Can I just pop in some regular batteries, or are the rechargeable type "hardwired" to the pump and I would be dead on the water until I get to a power source. I do not have a boat. Yet. I would like to keep it under $100, preferably under 75-80. Any input, suggestions, experiences or recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks and tight lines.
  7. Yeah, a kayak sounds fun. I wasn't planning on doing that, but I will be there for about 2 weeks, so ya never know. Thanks for info about Lake Belton and Stillhouse. not too far and easy to get to.
  8. Appreciate the info, will help. I haven't fly fished in about 30 yrs, but if I continue to visit the area I might try it again. Good to know about the Colorado too.
  9. Will be in the Leander/Georgetown Texas area in a few weeks and will be fishing Lake Travis and Lake Georgetown, and maybe the San Gabriel River if it isn't dried up. Does anyone know of bait shops in the area to get live bait? Probably will be using minnow type baits and leaches unless someone has a better recommendation. Also plenty of lures and plastics. Thanks.
  10. Well, the two of you were correct, the bearings that I bought did not work. Although I measured with a micrometer, and ordered bearings that were extremely close to my measurements, they did not fit properly. I ordered from China and they took a few weeks to get here, so I was only out a total of less than $10.00. Lesson learned, listen to other fishermen. Thanks.
  11. Thanks for your input and suggestions. Boca Bearing is supposed to make bearings that fit the 3.2x10x4mm bushings that I want to replace, but those are costly, and I went with a less expensive alternative. Using a micrometer the spool shaft and ID of bushings measure 3.2 mm. If this conversion works, I will post results.
  12. I have a vintage (1958-1959) Abu Garcia Ambassadeur 5000 and will be replacing the bushings with bearings soon, when they arrive. My question is, the bushings have a little tag that fits into a slot. I suppose this tag keeps the bushing stationary, from spinning. The bearing will not have that tag. Will the bearing remain stationary or will the outside of the bearing spin? Or, should I even be concerned? Thanks
  13. Pretty sure I found the date of the Johnny Morris JMX10SHD. It was most likely built in 2005. Thanks for all of your input. It is in like new condition, not a scratch or mark on it, smooth as silk.
  14. Yeah that picture looks a bit like the one I bought. It came with braided line on it, which is something I have not used yet. Thanks for the info. I will take it to Bass Pro next week and have them match a rod to it. Also got an Abu Garcia Ambassador 5000 that looks like it has never seen action. According to serial number it was made in 2002. Need rod for that one too.
  15. Nice to know those reels have some longevity, thanks
