Whats the best Catfish Bait?
I used a Rebel Crawdad one day and I caught three as soon as the lure hit the water the fish took the lure, the next day I caught one with a rapala minnow while I was cranking it in. I was not really catfishing I was bass fishing and I caught cats!!!! I never caught any bass. That stopped working, so I tried bacon, it workes great for me I have caught about 15 catfish now with no problem at all, takes a bit of time but its good to watch the lines get tight and the tip of the rod bouncing, I am hooked. I have just started Cat fishing, I have used several baits, stink, gulp links,, chicken livers, bread, prepacked shad, porkchop cokked meat and shrimp, all of this amounted to a few nibbles and a couple of turtles. I also use bait fish head, that has caught me one catfish, I was shocked that the fish was fairly small and it swallowed the whole head of a good sized perch, I was trying to get bigger catfish on by haveing larger bait that the smaller catfish could not get in there mouths, I guess I am going to have to use bigger bait chunks. This was one of six I caught a couple of days agao in a pond.

catfish on a spinnerbait.
San Antonio Texas, I caught three that day, two on a rebel crawdad and one on a strom shad, soon as the lure hit the water the catfish lunged at it, two days later I caught another on a Rapala minnow. The rapala catch was while I was relling the lure back in.

You really don't need mega $ to catch bass.
I have recently started fishing again after many years of a break. I used to reside in Scotland so my perspective is a little diffrent. Rod and reels in the USA are cheap, and by that I mean that you can go to a place like Academy spend $40 and you are ready to fish. Just last week I bought a Shakespeare combo for $25 and some soft shad swimbaits for $2.97, next day I caught four Bass, one of then was what you would consider a keeper the rest were too small. I can see what flechero is getting at but where would someone like me start, I fish and my son also fishes, buying two of every thing starts to amount to quite a bit of money if I take the exspensive route. Haveing the top shelf stuff is in my book the best way top go if you can manage to afford it, unfortunatly I can not afford rods and reels that cost hundreds of dollars. What I have done is this, I have read and reread lots of posts on fishing and what a gold mine of info that is although confusing at times. Yes my rod and reels are cheap, but I did get the best line and lures I could afford, I cosider that a start. I have the method to get the hooks in the water, I have the desire to fish, and it works. The exspensive rods and reels will eventually appear in my arsenall of fishing equipment but for now my $25 rod and reel with the spider wire braid and Rapala lure will have to sufice till I can afford something else. I am fishing and catching which is a lot better than not doing it at all.

Baitcaster for a beginer!
Hello, this is my first post on this fourm, your advise would perhaps help my son and I decide what reel he should purchase with his Brithday money. He wants a baitcaster, he just wants it so much that he wont listen to any advise from the people at the Bass Pro Shops. He is going to have about $100 to spend on what he wants. Let me decribe him, he is 14 years old on his Birthday and has recently taken up fishing. That all came about because he was doing very poorly at school although he is quite smart and can pass most tests he attempts with great scores. But he spent most of his time on the computer or X Box. My wife and I would ban him from the computer and X Box and soon he would get his grades up enough to get back on, but this became a circle that just went on and on. Then I really decided that I was not going to allow this round and round situation to continuie, therefore with the backing of my wife I removed the X Box and changed the pass word on the computer. The first week he was like a zombie, but when the second week came around I presented him with a fishing rod and some lures; we went fishing that day and now a month and a half later he is hooked, his grades have vastely improved and him and I are getting along a lot better. So what I am looking for is advise ona rod and baitcaster combo for about $100. What type of problem should he expect to encounter and what differences is there between a spinning reel and a baitcaster. If he gets one I would like him to enjoy his purchase and of corse catch a few fish along the way. Thanks in advance. Below is a pic of his first day fishing. The date on the camera is incorrect, this was a few week back.
