  1. For fluke style baits I use a Dobyns Champion 702sf with 10lb floro with Pflueger Supreme XT For rip baits I use an Airrus Co-Matrix with 12lb with an Abu Revo SX
  2. Roadwarrior sure loves his Avids. Gotta admit they are nice rods though. ;D
  3. I bought new and I don't regret it. Even though I took a hit with depreciation I was able to get a very low interest rate with the loan because it was new. I know most don't like loans but I put half down a bought a basic boat for under 10k new.
  4. Agreed I use white for most situations for smallies.
  5. I have 16ft aluminum boat with a 30hp 4 stroke. Insurance with Progressive only costs me $180 per year with good coverage. I had the option of paying 45 per month for 4 months.
  6. My wife and I decided to split a small amount of our taxes so I picked up some goodies this weekend. I picked up a pair of Abu Vendetta rods and the reels you see in the picture. I am looking to get a pretty high end smallie rod for the Stradic CI4. Since rods of this money are not usually in stores I need some opinions. The only rods I've ruled out is the high end Diawa's( just didn't feel right) The rod will be used for small tubes and shakey heads.
  7. I just picked up 2 of them from area Walmarts for $74 each. They didnt have any boxes but I felt the deal was worth it.
  8. I have mine ordered through the shop I work at with Shimano's employee program and i still have to wait till the end of March to get it. Luckily that's when I start my fishing
  9. Sebiles for hard swimbaits and Basstrix for soft ones. I dont like to get crazy buying the expensive ones.
  10. Did you just respond to yourself? Awesome!! ;D
  11. I fish a 16ft Princecraft Starfish. I haven't had any problems fishing anywhere with it. I was going to buy your typical bass boat but I live 3 miles from saltwater and the deep-v will perform better in the rougher seas. Boat looks exactly like this.
  12. The logical choice would probably be a 4runner due to reliability and solid resale value. If you want an all around rock solid engine make sure to look at any pre-2007 Jeep with the 4.0 engine. These come with all the flashy amenities; leather, ect http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?ct=u&car_id=260194356&dealer_id=625645&car_year=2004&rdm=1249425774993&num_records=25&model=JEEPGRAND&systime=&make2=&highlightFirstMakeModel=&start_year=2002&engine=&keywordsrep=&keywordsfyc=&certified=&fuel=&body_code=0&awsp=false&search_type=both&distance=25&marketZipError=false&search_lang=en&showZipError=y&first_record=51&make=JEEP&color=&keywords_display=&page_location=findacar%3A%3Aispsearchform&min_price=&drive=&default_sort=priceDESC&seller_type=b&max_mileage=&style_flag=1&sort_type=priceDESC&address=02746&advanced=&end_year=2006&pager.offset=50&transmission=&doors=&max_price=&cardist=19&standard=false A really good sleeper is the Mitsubishi Endeavor. It has a pretty solid engine with plenty of power and decent reliability. 225horse 6cyl http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?ct=u&car_id=264190287&dealer_id=73416&car_year=2005&rdm=1249426032044&model=ENDEAVOR&num_records=25&systime=&make2=&highlightFirstMakeModel=&start_year=2005&keywordsfyc=&keywordsrep=&engine=&certified=&body_code=0&fuel=&awsp=false&search_type=both&distance=50&marketZipError=false&search_lang=en&showZipError=n&make=MIT&keywords_display=&color=&page_location=findacar%3A%3Aispsearchform&min_price=&drive=&default_sort=priceDESC&seller_type=b&max_mileage=&style_flag=1&sort_type=priceDESC&address=02746&advanced=&end_year=2008&doors=&transmission=&max_price=&cardist=53&standard=false
  13. I traded in my boat towing suv(2000 Isuzu Rodeo) for the cash for clunkers. The rodeo was dying a slow death. It had never ending fuel pump issues and gasket issues. I got my wife a Subaru Impreza and I'm taking over our 2004 Forester. It has 80K miles and is rated to tow 2400lbs. My boat, motor, trailer and gear are about 1000lbs. I just installed the hitch today and the rusty bolts made it a three hour job. With my boat being about half the weight of the towing capacity and the vehicle being a 4 cylinder, would installing a tranny cooler be a good idea? I'll be installing it myself.
  14. Lucky Craft Pointer
  15. Very rarely do these ever really happen. I read a few other forums that try "get togethers or friendly tourneys" all the time and they usually begin to fizzle as the time gets closer. :-?
  16. So I was launching my boat today but for some reason my truck went in first. :'( ;D
  17. Whenever I muff my engine the water coming out out will be a little warmer that going in. It seems pretty normal to me.
  18. I just got my Carrot Stix Gold in. It's super light but then again I work at a full saltwater tackle shop and one of our distributors(Henry's) carries them. The price of the gold wholesale is $120 and the regular carrot stix is $89. I also have 2 All-Star ASR rods which wholesale for $56..retail $99.99
  19. Gratz!! Are you a boater or non-boater? I would love to join one myself but I fish out of a smallish 16ft with a 30hp and plus I'm a stubborn solitary fisherman and wouldn't do well with a non-boater :-[ ;D

With all the rain we've been getting in the northeast, it's been cutting into my fishing time. I understand the hardcore guys fish in any weather but with this rain I might as well get a little wet. So what do you guys use for summer rain gear and spring/fall rain gear?
  21. I feel your pain. There is nothing worse than trying to entertain someone who has a conflicting personality. If I invite you, you are considered my guest and get to use my secondary equipment and gas is free. Just bring food. If you invite yourself and I accept then we are splitting everything and you better have a respectable amount of tackle. Every time some 'acquaintance' asks me "when are you taking me fishing?" I usually tell them my brother fishes with me every week.
  22. Thanks guys I'm either going to go with the Abu Revo Toro or the Abu Winch. Probably going to head to Bass Pro tomorrow to play with both.
  23. There is this old-timer who I chit-chat with when I see him on the lake. During the summer the stubborn goat fishes only tubes and fishes them at a snails pace dragging them along the bottom. The geezer catches them like crazy but it's painfully boring watching him. ;D
  24. Hmm...I didn't see G Loomis on yout list, so I wouldn't call the Carrot Stick the last (though it maybe the least...j/k) Haha..I know how some of you guys feel about Loomis. I have been saltwater fishing all my life and do own a couple of Loomis GL2's. I've just couldn't get into the freshwater handle setups.
  25. It's been a long 2 years since I took up freshwater fishing and I've slowly built my arsenal of rods. I refused to be a fanboy so I purchased rods from multiple manufacturers...I have Dobyns, All-Star, St Croix, Airrus and a Rogue custom. So last but not least I ordered my 7'8" Carrot Stix Gold(here tomorrow) that I will be using for swimbaits but I'm having a problem finding a suitable bc reel with a slower retrieve. I would prefer a low profile reel in the 5.8-1 gear ratio or less. I will be filling the reel with 55lb Daiwa Samurai braid Any suggestions?
