  1. I once had a page out of a BPS catalog that had different ways to rig your bait i.e. drop shotting, Texas and Carolina among others. Can anyone tell me which catalog it was or what were all the ways suggested?
  2. There aren't many rods that don't have cork handles. Why not the other stuff?
  3. What about Johnny Morris rods from BPS? I'm liking the looks of the Fuji Recoil titanium guides. Anyone tried them?
  4. I took RW's advice and tried Yo-Zuri ultra soft 6# and am going to switch all my reels to it. Yesterday was the fist time using it and after a multitude of casts and catches I didn't have the first problem. This stuff casts great and seems to be very strong. I ordered 4# and 10# also. This is the best line I've ever tried, thanks RW.
  5. I hear a lot of people don't like Fireline but so far I have had good luck with it. As a matter of fact I really like it. I don't know if I just got lucky and got a good batch or what. I got mine at Wal- Mart and haven't had any problems.
  6. About how long will a dozen minnows last in a non aerated cooler? It takes me about 45 min to get from where I get them to where I fish. I can buy them where I'm fishing but for 5$ a dozen I'd rather catch them in the river close to my house. Why don't I fish the river near my house you may ask; it's fished heavily as it runs through town and no big fish.
  7. I'm gonna throw something out there just for the heck of it. I'm gonna buy a new boat in a couple of years to replace my Porta-Bote which is nowhere near bass boats standards but I can put this thing in the water pretty much anywhere I want. That being said, I fish rivers that aren't always very deep. As a matter of fact the New River where I fish can be only inches deep. I am currently looking into a Compeaus Sport Jon. According to their website this thing can jump land and not be phased by it and it'll also run in about 4" of water. Of course that's just me, I have to be different.
  8. Thanks Sam. Which ones did you get and how much were they? Also being a James River visitor where do you fish on the James? I mainly fish anywhere from Springwood to Arcadia. I think my favorite is Eagle Rock.
  9. I just got my new Oasis Sport Wading shoe made by Worldwide Sportsman and couldn't wait to try them out. I got them from Bass Pro and believe I picked the wrong shoe. Went to the river today and as soon as they got wet and I stepped on a dry rock down I went. I wrenched my back busted my shin but luckily saved embarassment 'cause nobody was looking. Now I've gotta send these back and try to find some that wont give a repeat performance. I hope this will give you a chuckle because I imagine I'm not the only butt buster here.
  10. Allright, now that some of you are hating on my ugly sticks what do you use? Let's keep in mind I don't like breaking rods and won't spend over 60 or 70 bucks for a rod. Also I use spinning reels.
  11. This was the result of using shiners for the first time. My 2" pumpkinseed grub caught more but nothing like this. It was 3.5lbs.
  12. Although I'm new to this forum I haven't heard anyone say they use Ugly Sticks. I love mine. They have landed many a fish including my personal best smallie today weighing in at 3.5 lbs.
  13. Thanks for the reply. I guess I need to change the topic title to get more input.
  14. I bought the 2500 from Dicks and also have a 750 Sahara on the way from Cabelas. I don't know why 'cause I like my Mitchells just fine.
  15. Me too. I just spooled up with the Power Pro 6lb. The reel said it could hold 200yds but I only had 150 yds of line so I put some other line on first then went on the Power Pro and had plenty left. This is off your quesion but thoght I'd throw this in. I use spinning gear and had three different lines on today, 10lb Fireline, 6lb Power Pro and 4lb Suffix. Sorry guys but I liked the Fireline the best and it landed a nice 3.5lb smallie.
  16. Thanks again RW. Hopefully I can put some pics like yours on here when I return.
  17. For me I'm thinking 30 to 70. I just got a Shimano Sahara for 60 and was cringing at that.
  18. Thanks dude. I'll probably call Clacka Craft to get mine after I work some overtime.
  19. That is exactly why I throw 'em back. If I want to eat fish I'll go to a restraunt or the grocery store.
  20. What reel for an ultra light? I ordered a Shimano 750 from Cabelas and it's on it's way. Anymore suggestions? Also, I haven't seen or heard anyone talking about Ugly Sticks. Why is that? I really like mine.
  21. Thanks Bud. I've never heard of Ardent and will give them a look. Hopefully they will stay around 'cause the bigger they get the more choices they'll have to chose from. I must say I do like the look of their spinning reel (I went online in the middle of this reply to look at the reels) and would gladly pay more for an all American made product if it suits my needs. I would like to know more before buying.
  22. Anyone know anything about Compeau's Sport Jon? It's a company in Alaska and I'm thinking about getting one in a couple of years. They have a pretty good website if you'd like to see one.
  23. Tomorrow, I have decided to use shiners like alot of people say. I know to hook them in the upper lip but what about the retrieve? Do you let it go downstream then reel in or reel in slow?
  24. Thanks. I now have a Sahara on my Ugly Stick. Not wild about the gold trim though.
  25. I used Fireline Crystal for the first time today and had nothing but trouble. It may have been me but don't think so. It is strong but I encountered slubbing and bird nests only after about 10 or so casts. I have not had this problem with regular Fireline.
