looking to buy my second set of deep cycle bateries on my boat. i have stock interstates. What have you all found to be the best batteries? Any cheap places to get them. oh and yes they will be used alot!

Anyone know what Hyco Lake in NC is doing right now? i know its heated but i have never been there. Curious if that might be the place to go catch some warmer fish.

Does anyone know of any tournaments on the third and fourth of may on Smith Mountian Lake VA? I think there is a ranger cup. Any others?

What takle or techniques do you all use for fishing deep or shallow docks?

What flourocarbons work for you all the best on spinning reels? What do you all do to over come the stiffness of the flourocarbons on the spinning reels? Or do you all just not us Flourocarbon on your spinning reels? I have been trying to use flouro on my spinning reels but i am just not having much luck. I tried 8 lb halo but it seemed to break real easy at the point were a loop was pulled out. So i went to 10lb and its just to stiff. Input please?

I also fished the SML tournament and heres my report. Being a nearby resident of SML i knew that the water temp. had been up and down the last few weeks. So i figured the fish were just off the docks and staging on points waiting to come up. After three days of practice I had planned on fishing points due to the quality of the fish i was catching and knowing the docks would be pounded hard by every other boat and fisherman. Throughout the three day practice I never caught a short fish but the first cast of the tournament i caught a short fish and I knew this wasnt going to be a good day. So i ran my milk run of points twice before noon and realized something wasnt right. After cruising through some pockets on the trolling motor I realized all my fish went shallow after seeing the first cruising fish i had seen all year. But by this time it was to late. I blame my 0s on the score board on my own ignorance and lack of kinowledge. This is a fast changing sport. One that can change over night and if you do not know how to adjust you will get whipped every time.

Well Congatulations on your great finish!!!!!!!! I am glad someone had a great tournament. By the way the Diawa Spinning reel works great on the Carrot stix and the Curado now has flouro on it. Great Flipping Rod. Also most of the creeks are now muddy due to the rain last night.

thanks for all the input. For reference the water color is fairly clear with visibility around 6 feet. I do also agree that its the fisherman not the lure. So slow drags work better? Anyone else on how to work the jig?

Prespawn is here and with the fish staging what is a good jig color to use early in the Spring. The lake i am fishing is known to be a great jig lake but i havent been able to catch anything with them yet. I belive it sould be due to the size and color i am using. What do you all suggest?

I have been fishing SML alot lately and its been ok. Anyone care to share any tips or stories?

Wow alot of things you all said makes since. Here in VA the spawning time went from late april to until the BASS Pros were here in june. The water was cooking hot. But the fish still were on the beds. Now what should be my first step now before the prespawn happens to prepare? Read a TOPO map? What do i look for? You all listed flats a lot. What in you alls terms is a flat. To me it is a 20 to 50 yard run of water ranging from 2 foot to 6 foot. Do you all concure? Or is it deeper? Will i look for the ones on the main or in the beginning of the creeks? How about Humps? I am full of questions but i will stop at this for now? Thanks for all the input i am learning a lot lets keep it up i enjoy learning.

My goal this winter is to key up on the Small mouth bass. I was talking to a guy the other day and he said the smb fishing really gets good this time of year when the water temps. get below 50 degrees on a lake near by. Smith mountian lake. He said throw a crankbait and throw it a lot. Were do i need to fish to be most successful (Structure) and what depth af crankbait do i need to throw or what crankbait do i need to throw?

I have two depthfinders on my boat a x135 and a lms 520c. I have tried alot of sensitivity settings to clarify the picture and accuracy without a lot of artifact on the screen. Do any of u adjust your depth finders from the factory setting? if you do what do u change?

I am already preparing for a tournament in march i am attending on the great Kerr (buggs island) resivior. I have a large topo map of the lake and have been studying. What type of techniques should i be preparing to use for early march early prespawn conditions? The water temps around here are not looking like they are going to get to low (still in the upper 40s).

I am a very active spring summer and winter fisherman but never before fished in the winter. I want to start spooning but dont know the first thing about it. Can all help me out on were how and when to sppon and what spoons to use.

This will be my first year of serious fall fishing. What tips do you all have that can help me find and produce good fish in the fall. Where is my best places to find schooling bass? Or are the shallow fish a better bet?
