Scenario!
Thanks for all the input. Is there anything else? Possibly how long will it be befroe i can exspect for these bass to move shallow. I fishied all day the next day Throwing rattle traps with nothing. Finally picked up a three pounder flipping some wood. Stuck with that the rest of the day and caught nothing else. But this fish was on the main channel.

Scenario!
Here is a scenario for everyone to reply to. I will try to be as detailed as i can but if you guys and gals have any questions feel free to ask. I was fishing a lake in southern VA today and the water temp. at 09:00hrs was 71 -72 degrees. In the summer time the temp can reach 84-86 and the temp. two weeks ago was 74 -76. the thermocline was marked at 20 feet on my sonar. The lake has a few creeks and is more like a river at the southern end and a lake at the northern. The creeks have a few trees lay downs and some rock bluffs. The main part of the lake has alot or rock bluffs dropping to 30 to 40 feet. I went into one of the bigger creeks looking for shad and saw 3 big schools about 2 times the size of my bass boat. The water color is stained with visibility of arouond three feet. Any other questions just ask. WHAT WOULD YOU DO? My personnal questions. What water tempature guidelines should i watch for to know when the fall patterns to start? Should i just keep my summer pattern and wait for the water temp to drop? Since i am seeing schools of shad does that mean they are spawning? Or is to early?

I cant fish deep! am i missing out.....
What about wind direction vs. lure presentation. In the past few replys to this topic it was mentioned that the shad will hold on these points. How should we present our lure, for example crankbait, to mimic the bait fish. Alos it was mentioned about electronics. I have a 520c and am trying to learn how to read it and set it. Sometimes structure is hard to tell what it is. Also sensitivity plays a role in reading these structures. Any suggestions on how to read and set sensitivity.

replacing trebles?
Well since this thread is talking about treble hooks how about changing the size of the hooks when you start barely hooking fish. I recently heard KVD mention changing the hooks on his crankbait trying to find the one that gets more hooks in the fish. Whats this all about?

Clear vs. Staind vs. Muddy Water

Clear vs. Staind vs. Muddy Water
One of my local lakes i fish isnt very big but it is like many lakes in one. The characteristics of this lake is much like the popular Lay Lake in Alabama. It has two dams one at each end and the upper end is like a river were the water color and tempature both change. My question is how should i change my fishing tactics in these different parts of the lake. The problem I am having is during a day tournament i am running at of spots early in the morning on the clear lower end part of the lake and need to broaden into the other areas. Lake Conditions: The lower end of the lake were the clearer 80 degree water is I am catching fish on the c rig and a shakey head. Up in a particular creek that i fished yesterday were the water drops 2 degrees and the water is muddy I caught fish flipping lay downs with a jig. Is it normal for the fish to be shallower in muddy water? Up the river were the water turns from staind to muddy I havent figured the fish out. The water temp also drops from 2 to 6 degrees as you go up it. Should i try the same thing with the river as i did in the muddy creek? I fished the creek with the jig and then came to the main lake and caught nothing. So obviously I am on something here but I am wondering if due to the water to of recently rose and now on the fall and the current to start flowing was this a right place right time thing or a normal thing that happens on most lakes that change in water conditions.

Watching fish and spot fishing...
This happens alot in the spring when the fish are coming up tp shallow water. When fishing docks its not unusual for 4 to 5 fish to come out from underneath with the right conditions.

Finding structure! I need help.
Well the topo maps are not offered for the lake i am fishing but i dont think it will be long until they are. So while i am fishing if and if i see something just fish it. OK but how can i tell if its rocks or brush. Do i just feel it for limbs or sharp edges? What would be best for this c rig since its on the bottom or jig since i can feel the structure better?

Finding structure! I need help.
I need help on finding deep water structure. This time of year always is the hardest for me (and probably many others) on finding fish. Almost everyone is fishing the deep water structure such as trees and brush piles but i have a hard time finding these places. Is there a certian technique you all use on finding this deep structure. I have a lowerance 520c and am trying to learn to use it for this reason.

Boat covers
I am looking for a good traveling boat cover for my triton. I would like it to be water proof and uv protected. What would you suggest?

Cleaning your boat
When you all are done fishing what do you do to your boat to keep it clean. Is there a good cleaner to put on the boat?

Points
This time of year i believe we all go to fishing points. This is why I would like to have a discussion on points (secondary or Main). Some questions that come to my mind are as follows: How do we fish them ie. Water movement, deep to shallow, vise versa? How to pick out a good point? Lures to use? Why are the fish there? And how do they stage compared to water and weather conditions? Answers to things like this would sharpen my skills and others too. Feel free to add any other ideas to this. Thanks

Ideas on a good spinning reel
I am fond of shimano reels and have many curados and am now looking for a good spinning reel. In the past i have purchased saharas but what about the Sustian? Do you all have any other spinning reels in mind that might be better?

fry
I was fishing today and while i was sight fishing i saw a bass on the corner of a dock. Casted to him and noticed a large school of fry right beside him. Well while in the same gut i saw a stump in the water and after casting to it i noticed another school of fry and caught a bass on that cast. My question is how can i tell what type of fry they were and why was the bass there? Feeding? Each school consised of about 200 fry and were so small really couldnt tell what they looked like. Is there a way to tell bass fry from bluegill fry?

New shimano reel
I was watching linders angling edge today and he was talking about the reel he was using. He said the reel was a prototype and was not named yet. The spinning reel apparently is suppose to keep the line twists out. Is this reel out yet? If so what is it called? I am thinking this was a few months old episode.

Cant feel hits and dont know what to do!
The lake I am fishing is the same lake i spoke of in one of my first topics I started named Fishing Rock Cliffs. This lake has drop offs along all the shoreline not neccessarily all rock cliffs but drop offs none the least. It has some fishing pressure such as the two tournaments this weekend. I have been working on figuring the fish out and finally have gotten were i can catch 3 - 5 pound fish. What i am doing is pitching the shakey head rig and by just slightly moving my rod tip just enough to keep the head on the bottom and inching it not hopping it down the bank. What i am throwing is a green pumpkin trick worm. What i am due to try is a floating trick worm. This would keep the tail straight up and a little more action. I have never done much with the drop shot maybe you can help me with that.

I am going to try a line change but surely not vanjsh. That stuff just dont work on spinning tackle. Not going through that headache agian.

Cant feel hits and dont know what to do!
I have been using the shacky head lately and i havent been feeling the fish hit it. The only way i know they took it is i see my line start to move to the side. By this time its to late they have swallowed my hook. I am using a spinning setup with 10 pound trilene xl and a medium action 5'6" rod. I caught a five pounder and a 4 pounder today and didnt feel either of them just saw my line moving to the side. What can i do?
