Watching fish and spot fishing...

Featured Replies

I never really do much spot fishing because I fish mostly from the banks and do not have the priveledge to roam around alot. I was fishing a slough right underneath a bridge and there is a lot of milfoil in the water. Euroasian milfoil is bad in some parts of our lake. I was watching a big milfoil patch where the current is a bit stronger. So i saw a lunker, 5lb3oz swim out and back under I was like, OMG you are in my hands. So i threw my bait right next to the milfoil and holy crap about 4-5 fish swam after the bait, 4lb+ all about the same size and one 6lb.

I didn't know large mouth tended to group like this. Was this just an unusal occasion because I have never seen this size fish grouping in current. Were they waiting for bait fish to swim under for cover? I know there is usually a pig sitting underneath cover on a hot day but 5+ fish, I caught 4 ranging from 4lb to 6+lb in the exact same spot.

This is very normal

Slough: structure

Bridge: structure/cover

Milfoil: cover

You have found their house & the entire family is home  ;)

This happens alot in the spring when the fish are coming up tp shallow water. When fishing docks its not unusual for 4 to 5 fish to come out from underneath with the right conditions.

Was very clear last weekend and I noticed groups of two or three large bass roaming together.  Just cruising along the edge of the shore - was fortunate enough to land a couple.  Have also noticed that it appears that similar sized fish will group together - not just the large ones - and cruise the shore line.

Read once that large ones do this just behind, or around, smaller fish.  The smaller fish go into areas to tight/shallow for the large ones.  As minnows and other food run away from the smaller fish, the big ones ****** them up.
