  1. i use this and its pretty consistant http://www.amazon.com/MicroTemp-MT-100-Digital-Infrared-Thermometer/dp/B000EIVWSW
  2. Franco, the bait is a fat ika on a owner twist lock 5/0 hook, 12# invisx, Steez 7' svf mh rod, Steez 103 reel. Dodge do you do straight braid or with leader? Might have to try shooter if the tatsu doesn't perform, if that doesn't work back to braid for most of my setups.
  3. Dodge and Franco, we had that great thread at Nybass about braid/floro vs all floro. Most leaned towards braid/floro so I tried it out, works real well but I find it shortens your casts, and increases likelihood of back lashes because of the leader knot (Alberto). Now I am also considering some rods with micro guides and have concerns about the leader knot and even smaller guides, so am seeing if floro will work for me. FYI leader is about 6ft After purchasing a new rod I am now casting with floro 20-30% (alot of this i believe is the rod with a little because of no knot) further than I have before and am reaching spots no one has been able to cast to before ( this is in central park), so usually on the first drop I am getting bit and it feels like I got rubber band for line.
  4. been using invisx 12# recently, and am now finding my self having to make hooksets at 50-70ft out and not getting that tight solid hookset im used to. granted i just switched from braid/floro leader to all floro so i understand i gotta settle with some stretch, but am wondering if tatsu will have significantly less stretch than invisx?
  5. are you fishing central or prospect park, and if central which lake? i would use 4"- 6" senkos in natural colors(black, blue, green, brown) weightless and weedless either wacky or texas, and fish them real slooooow or deadsticked.
  6. thanks indy and benito, those are two great links to have for other trips, i would do dreamlake lodge this trip, but no one else i know would be willing to drop 350 per day for 5 days, to go fishing, and dreamlake is a 2 person @ 350/day each for rental and lodge, so if someone wants to partner up let me know.

  9. mexico is definitely in my future, this trip is more about getting my fishing itch scratched, was too busy in the summer and fall to get out and i figure since im gonna have to travel any way to fish might as well go where the big fish are, fish off a real bass boat, and not spend too much money. i am now leaning towards toho in florida, get a motel, and rent a boat at kissimmee boat rentals for 3 or 4 days and do 1 or 2 days with a guide at stick marsh or if anyone could recommend a boat rental there i could spend more time there. also would i be in the right area to find peacock bass fishing within a 2 hour drive from toho? when would be the best time to go between early january to late february, but could maybe do march if it is that much better? thanks again all the advice its appreciated and still welcome.

  12. some quick google searches landed me these spots: http://www.talltimbersresort.com/index.htm http://www.tealpointresort.com/activities/boating.htm which is more to my preference with weekly rentals and slips that allow me to take the boats out 24hrs. unfortunately the weather wont be right in these states in february. any places like this in florida or texas? i found plenty of boat rental places but non that do weekly or with 24hr docks. i am posting the other links i found incase anyone else is seeking info. http://www.big-cedar.com/Page/57/5/Boat-Rentals.aspx http://www.boomerangresort.com/rates.html http://www.kissimmeeboatrentals.com/ http://www.blackburnsresort.com/boats/fishingboats.htm#time http://www.bassworldlodge.com/map1.htm http://www.tropicalresortandmarina.com/boatrental.htm http://www.hontoon.com/ http://www.rickysboatrental.com/ http://www.rolandmartinmarina.com/okeechobee_boat_rentals.php http://www.ets-systems.com/jjmarine/ http://www.toledo-bend.net/marina/ thanks for the info thus far. i am planning to get a guide for at least the first day.

  15. coming from the north east so fishing is pretty much done for a while. decided on taking a trip for a trophy sized bass around the beginning of february, was thinking florida but anywhere with 7lb+ would be fine. most importantly for me i would like to be able to rent a fully rigged bass boat, for which ever lake i choose. the ideal situation if it exists would be to rent a cabin or motel room and have the marina be on the same property, if not a dock outside the room. i am looking for any and all ideas and recommendations, and states as far as texas are fine. availability of peacock bass a plus but not necessity. thanks in advance.

  18. i used 2 sets of these, http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp?id=0023226317473a&type=product&cmCat=SEARCH_all&returnPage=search-results1.jsp&Ntt=oar+keepers&Ntk=Product_liberal&sort=all&Go.y=0&_D%3AhasJS=+&N=0&_D%3Asort=+&Nty=1&hasJS=true&_DARGS=%2Fcabelas%2Fen%2Fcommon%2Fsearch%2Fsearch-box.jsp.form1&Go.x=0&_dyncharset=ISO-8859-1, and figured out a way to make them work, but i am sure you can find a better, cheaper solution. you could even just use hanger wire and twine and come up with a solution.
  19. i bought the oar hooks from somewhere else and tied them around the flooring connection.
  20. you need a boat that keeps your body out of the water, otherwise your gonna miss out on fishing from it in april, may, september, october cause the water will be too cold. i second the seaeagle oneman pontoon. i have a single person folcat(discontinued) and works great for me, living in manhattan i need something that would break down small, fits in a closet, an elevator and a car. if it wasnt for the elevator i probably would of gone for a porta boat though.
  21. just call them, pretty sure they will sell lots of stuff individually, but you'll pay.
  22. i was already thinking of doing something like this, need to find the right pieces that i can rig together to make it work, or hopefully find something that does already work.
  23. seaeagle sells the alu planks, for $75.
  24. this is the beginning part of the setup, you can see the velcro i used for the additional floor planks the 3 planks you see above are solidly attached to the pontoons using a pipe and groove method, and are the only points that can carry the seat, oar locks, or anchor, and once fully inflated the stabilizer bars (bars under the planks) push up into the planks locking everything in. once fully inflated i add the rest of the alu planks then pedestals and rod holder (need to figure out a better way to store the rods, wind blowing through the lines can get annoying and once in a while on my back cast i hit the rods) and oars in stored position, the rod holder is attached to one of the oar locks and the other is in my tackle bag in case i ever need to use them but outta the way till then. attach motor, depthfinder (with batteries and storage in cooler) and the seat. depthfinder and seat attach quickly and securely using release-a-seats. and good to go, most of the places i fish i can get the car within 10 feet to the water and build and breakdown is about 20 min each. hopefully that answers any questions and sorry it took all season to post.
  25. thank you for the info.
