  1. Great catch....congrats.
  2. We use chicken livers, shrimp, unthawed dead minnows work around here as well. Have heard hot dogs do too but haven't tried those.
  3. I use both types but just looking to get some opinions. I gotta get an ultralite rig and also a catfishing rig(preferably a white rod).
  4. Congrats for the 2 of you and the nice bass there.
  5. I remember one of my first times out fishing when I was 9 or 10 I believe, I was out with my parents using this really old short rod and reel that my brother used when he was younger(and we're 10 years apart), well I was using a cork and got a big bite and my parents told me to reel him in.....well when we got him up and measured him he was as long as my little blue tacklebox which had a ruler on the top and he was every bit 12" long, biggest crappie I've ever caught still to this day.
  6. Just bought some the other day, wondering what these things are good for catching. Thanks
  7. Don't laugh.......just curious because when my wife and I went fishing the other night we heard shad jumping around all night long...possibly some bass as well since some of the sounds were like someone through a huge rock in the water. My buddy who lives on the Tar River in Rocky Mount NC where we were fishing said they were probably shad. I have a few shad darts can I use them at night to catch some shad while I catfish?
  8. Thanx for the advice, gonna try out my older spinning reel that I just spooled 6 lb test on and see how that works for me this evening.
  9. Went out yesterday morning with the tadfry frog and caught 10 which is 10 more than Friday morning, but you guys are right it wasn't going as far as I wanted so I'm gonna rig up an old spinning reel (abu garcia) with 6 lb test and see if I get better results. Thanx for the help guys.
  10. If by close you mean over 6 hrs sure I'm close ;D, I'm in the eastern part of the state in Wilson b/t Raleigh and Greenville. Oh and yes I'm a huge KIX fan as well as all the 80's early 90's rock/metal bands that came out especially RATT and Black 'N Blue. I'm mainly a shore/dock fisherman so if any of you guys are from around here and have any tips on some good places to try would really appreciate it.
  11. Might be stupid but my friend fishes with a ultralite rig and lures(tadfry, yo zuri, spoons etc.) and he always catches fish but I have a rig that has probably 8-10 lbs test on it(Mitchell open face).....will the tadfry I bought today work on my rod and reel as well? Thanx everybody.
  12. Caught some kind of snake the other day.....not sure what kind possibly a copperhead or maybe just a water snake but I saw him sunning on the rocks and I was using a beetlespin and for some reason just like a little kid I dropped the lure right beside him a few times then right on top of him and sure enough he struck at it but thankfully he didn't keep a hold of it. All I could think of was oh crap what have I done now.
  13. Hi guys, its great to find a place like this online. The name's Chris and I have been fishing probably since I was 12(I know I started late). I usually bottom fish more than anything but after taking over 3 years off of fishing because of a new baby boy in '04 and a 3rd shift job I didn't really feel like getting out and fishing. Everything changed this year though and I'm back in full force trying to catch catfish, panfish and all types of bass. I look forward to picking your brains for much needed hints and tips and hearing some great advice. I definately have the fever again as just yesterday my wife and I went catfishing in the Tar River at a friends house until 12:30am and got up this morning at 6 to go out to a local river(only 5 minutes away) to fish with a buddy from work. Before you ask he skunked me bad, lost count after his two bass back to back and then his monster bluegill, but as always I had a great time. Gotta go, hitting the river early tomorrow morning as well. Chris
