Crankbait Setup?
So you also think I should invest in the reel? Am I right in the purpose of a slower reel and how its used?

Spinning reel cuts
snapping too hard on the cast?

Spinning reel cuts
I think your release/timing is off, causing the line to cut into your finger.

Crankbait Setup?
That's another thing, I won't be able to fish at all next year, so the new reel would just collect dust.

Crankbait Setup?
So this Bass fishing thing is harder than I thought! I've been reading articles, and have noticed most fall crankbait setups involve a reel that is 6.1 - 6.3:1. Why is this? Is it because if you're cranking through shallower water you don't need as much area to work towards the desired depth? I was planning on going with the BPS Pro Qualifier 5.2:1; would this be too slow for fall crankbaiting in shallower water? Should I just stick with using my 6.2:1 for this fall and get a better rod, rather than the BPS Carbonlite for fall crankbaiting?

Jig rod?
I know I'm flooding the boards, but trying to order this stuff tonight. I'm kinda lost on a Jig rod. Everything I read seems to contradict itself. What am I looking for in a Jig rod and what are some quality rods I should look at buying? I think I need at least a MH for a strong back bone, that's sensitive, not sure about length or action. Am I on the right track?

Crankbait Setup?
Thanks for all the advice fellas! I went with the Carbonlite 7'M mod paired with the pro qualifier 5.2:1. Excited to try out the combo!

Crankbait Setup?
Any chance you can give me a review of the Carbonlite?

First tournament: what setups?
I'm a righty, however, I perfer to fish as lefty because I have better rod control/action for my presentations.

Crankbait Setup?
I wouldn't mind a 7'6, I just haven't been able to find one in Medium power and Moderate action in my price range. Any suggestions?

Crankbait Setup?
I am getting closer to figuring out a good crankbait setup. The reel I'm going to get is: Bass Pro Shops® Pro Qualifier® Baitcast Reel - Left-Hand Retrive 5.2:1 The confusion is still with the rod. My price range is nothing over $130. I'm looking at these so far: Bass Pro Shops® CarbonLite Trigger Rod: 7'M mod 1/4 - 5/8oz Abu Garcia® Vendetta Trigger Rod : 7'M mod-fast 1/4 - 5/8 oz or 7'3 MH mod 1/4 - 1oz St. Croix® Mojo Bass Trigger Rod: 7'MH mod 3/8 - 1oz Can someone please help find a good rod?

First tournament: what setups?
I guess this is my position. I have $400 dollars to spend on gear for this tournament series. The thing is, after this series, my gear will be sitting around collecting dust until spring 2012. While I would love to spend $150 for a rod and again for a reel, I'm not sure if this is the best idea. I would like to limit myself to 4 setups for fall/early winter fishing in KY. I need a crankbait setup (rod and reel) for certain. The gear I do have: Combo: 6'10 Bass Pro Shops Spinning Combo Rod: 6'6 Shimano Convergence Graphite Power: Medium/Action: Fast Reels: Browning Citori: 6.4 to 1 Shimano Callisto: 6.2:1 Where do I go from here?

First tournament: what setups?
Ok, I think I'm going to use my Shimano for topwater, but this means I need a good jig rod. My partner said come Nov/Dec we'll be looking at alot of shakey head/jig applications. Any suggestions?

KY fishers?
I miss that area from when I was at Campbell. I'm at knox now, fish at Nolin, Rough so far, a few other lakes in the area.

First tournament: what setups?
Which setup could I add the spinnerbait to?

First tournament: what setups?
I was thinking of the crankbait I picked out because it's light weight and I was told it won't wear you out throughout the day. Our league is from Oct to Dec, and my partner told me that the Oct/Nov time frame will be cranks for a large portion of the day. the Nov/Dec will be jigs/shakey heads, depending on weather.

First tournament: what setups?
I'm in between these rods for my crankbait: Bass Pro Shops® CarbonLite Trigger Rods http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_10205012_175003000_175000000_175003000_175-3-0 Bass Pro Shops® Tourney Special® IM-7 Graphite Rods - Trigger http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_44528_175003000_175000000_175003000_175-3-0 St. Croix® Mojo Bass Trigger Rods http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_104145_175003000_175000000_175003000_175-3-0 I'm in between the same rods for my topwater, just in between 6' to 6'6 instead of the 7', any suggestions or thoughts?

First tournament: what setups?
I'm not able to pitch/flip yet, I'm still pretty new at all this. I'm trying to limit the amount of rods/tackle I take. I'm limiting myself to one tackle bag which will hold 4 plano boxes, and 4 rod setups. So I'm trying to find the best set-ups for my limited resources.

First tournament: what setups?
What kind of setup would you suggest for that? I also think that the areas we are fishing are mainly river channels and not much heavy cover/slop on the water; but I maybe wrong.

Could the mid-south FINALLY be getting a weather break!?
This summer has been amazingly hot! For the past few days here in KY, we have been setting record highs as we're still reaching mid to upper 90s, and lows at night in the 70s! HOWEVER... it appears this weekend will bring storms and a cold front; could this be the end of the heat wave!? we'll go from mid 90s Friday to everyday there after being mid 70s! I'm excited to get in some quality fall fishing!!! How will this quick change in the weather affect the fishing for the next couple days/weeks?

First tournament: what setups?
I fishing my first tournament series with a buddy this fall and what to have the right setups with the limited amount of gear possible. If it has an *, it means it's a future purchase. My questions are: 1) Do I cover all my angles here? 2) What rods would you recommend for the setups with an *? Setup #1: Crankbait *Bass Pro Shops Pro Qualifier: 5.2:1 *Crankbait Rod: 7ft baitcaster moderate action medium power Setup #2: Topwater Browning Citori: 6.4 to 1 *Topwater Rod: 6'0 to 6'6 casting rod of moderate action with medium power Setup #3: Jigs/Rigs 6'6 Shimano Convergence Graphite Power: Medium Action: Fast Shimano Callisto: 6.2:1 Setup #4: Weightless 6'10 Bass Pro Shops Spinning Combo

Predictable early fall slowdown. Help!
The pond I fish has turned into an evening pond, where the fish are active for about 45 minutes. However, they are very picky; I'll watch them follow many baits but do nothing else. So I found the using a 2/0 offset hook, with a Baby Craw (any color to match the water clarity), and slowly (I mean slowly: no more than 2ft at a slow swim and then letting it sit for at least 15 seconds) sweeping my rod horizontally is the only effective method. They seem to not be able to resist the Craw.
