G.LOOMIS ? Need Help
Roger what RW said. I just bought a gently used 783C IMX from the Flea Market here on the forums for 130. Looks almost brand new. I have made several bigger pucrhases (reels, etc) here on the forums and have had good experiences. Can't go wrong w/ the IMX, they "telegraph" almost like a GLX

What causes plastics to break down?
Interesting. Yep, I do recall putting a couple back in the bag after a few casts. Maybe that's it.

What causes plastics to break down?
That's what I don't understand, I bought these and fished 'em twice on the boat last September. Used two or three, brought 'em home and out 'em in a plastic bin in their original packaging along w/ all my other plastics. No heat, no sunlight. Maybe RW is right, mebbe something happened as they were shipped to the distributor. All my other plastics are tip top shape.

No worries. Some of my closest friends today are guys from 8th grade. ;D

What causes plastics to break down?
Aaah, my first legitimate response. Thank you Sensei. I always turn a keen ear to the man that directed me to Yo-Zuri hybrid on spinning gear. Love that stuff.

What causes plastics to break down?
I'm sure this has been covered but I couldn't find it. All the same feel free to take me down or redirect me. I tried to post this question up a couple nights ago, and RW had to close her down due to some, well, good-natured albeit borderline inappropriate wisecracks. So I'm trying to rephrase the question. A couple nights ago I opened a bag of plastic creature baits and was surprised to find they had started to liquify. There was a liquid goo in 2 or 3 of the bags. They were a Reaction Innovation product stored in my basement in the original bags and were only about a year old. I've never had them in the sun or in a hot vehicle. What gives? I have culprit worms that are over 5 years old stored the same way in the same location and they're as good as new.

what's causing my beavers to break down?
Uh. Yeah. 8th grade was so long ago, guess I didn't realize how perfectly I set myself up.

what's causing my beavers to break down?
I'm sure this has been covered but I couldn't find it. All the same feel free to take me down or redirect me. Last night I opened a couple bags of RI Sweet Beavers and was surprised to find them swimming in liquid goo. I have only had them a year and I know for sure they have not been left in my hot truck or in the sun. I've kept them in their original zip closure bags down here in my basement. I actually pulled those beavers out onto a paper towel and cleaned 'em up. They seem to be fine now. I have other plastics, Culrpit worms, etc. that have been down here for years and still look brand new. Are only some brands susceptible to this? Do my precious beavers have a shelf life?

Wading for Smallmouth in Sevierville TN?
I just wanted to post a photo of the smallie I caught a couple weeks ago while wading downstream from the Sevierville City Park in the Pigeon Forge, TN area. I started this post asking for some fishing advice for my brother and I before we left. We were forced to accompany the women-folk to Pigeon Forge and decided to buy a 3 day license and do a little fishing while the girls hit the outlet malls. Who would've guessed I would land my personal best smallie! Over 18 inches! But of course, I didn't take my scales!!!! (New rule, always bring the scales) I'm guessing between 3 and a half and 4 lbs. T-rigged Smallie Sweet Beaver Red w/ Black Flk. #2 Extra wide gap. The best part was that I got to see her actually hit the bait about 10 feet in front of me in 18 inches of water!!! What a rush. I love this forum. Thanks so much everybody for all the good advice.

Wading for Smallmouth in Sevierville TN?
My brother and I will be on a "family" vacation next weekend w/ our women-folk in Sevierville / Pigeon Forge TN area and I was wondering if anybody here has ever packed the waders and a pole and met w/ any success. I fish smallies in central KY and love to wade creeks and can't help but think that my brother and I could buy a TN license and spare ourselves at least one afternoon at the outlet mall. What streams are close within 20 minute drive or so w/ public access? Also, maybe an outfitter you've had luck with? Although I'd rather find a good spot myself without that expense. Anything would be appreciated.

Biggest Mistake After Putting The Boat In The Water
How about this one. The night before a big trip you and your buddy spend a good hour and a half at your favorite Chinese buffet for dinner. Get up before daybreak and head out to the marina, stopping for breakfast at an all-night greasy spoon and walking out with a huge cup of black coffee to go. After launching the boat and heading 20 minutes out toward the upper end of the lake the coffee suddenly kicks in and you realize you haven't made a trip to the bathroom in more than 24 hours. Your colon gets the workout of its life as it attempts to maintain the last shred of any dignity you still possess. Every wake feels like the bottom is going to fall out as you endure a living hell of clench, release, repeat. As you waddle toward the men's room at the marina the hottest college co-ed you've ever seen in your life comes idling past with a knowing smirk. At least we caught fish that day - and yes, not just crappie. (Let me go ahead and get that one over with)

Cedar Creek Lake, KY
I'm in Lexington, so I'm about 45 minutes away, but it remains my go-to water. So much to explore - submerged road bed, timber everywhere, really fun little lake w/ some consistently big fish. Either my second or third time on this lake I pulled a 3 and half pounder right next to the ramp just messing around. But like Kodiak said, weekends can be a pain. Take a day off if possible and get down here, bring a buddy and a camera.

who makes cabela's & bass pro crankbaits
So is that why so many of the BPS reels look almost exactly like Abus?

who makes cabela's & bass pro crankbaits
I can't imagine this question hasn't been asked B4, but I really can't find anything when I run this question through the search. Do both retailers really manufacture proprietary hardbaits, or is somebody else contracted? The Cabela's shad hardbaits look kind of close to Rapala Shads, but I can't be sure from just looking at a catalog.

Bait Monkey Got Me To Order Rapala!!!!
I do love me some DTs. Maybe I'll order that new Shad color from TW . . . And I need some hooks . . . Dang it!

Can anyone identify this old hard bait?
Huh. Well no kidding. I've even been to Bagley's site and didn't notice. They do indeed make a modern version. And I just checked and Cabela's sells 'em. Thanks so much

Can anyone identify this old hard bait?
Anybody know what this is? I inherited a lot of old 70s and 80s tackle 3 years ago when my Dad's cousin passed away. I've never been able to figure out what this old crankbait is. As a follow-up question, does anybody know of a resource online that can help identify old 70s and 80s lures. I've found plenty of collecting sites for really really old baits, but not much for 60s / 70s stuff. Thanks in advance

Old standard Storm Wiggle Wart
Wow, this bait brings back some of my best fishing memories. Back in June of '94, '95 and '96 my Dad, 2 brothers and I took 3 consecutive trips to Ontario several hours north of Lake Nipigon, which is N. of Lake Superior, in an extended cab truck w/ three tents, a john boat, 2 cans of Fix-a-Flat, and a chain saw. We couldn't afford a fancy outfitter to fly us in, and back then it was still legal to get access without one, so we got a hold of some old gov't logging maps and found a way to drive via abandoned dirt trails 10 hours beyond the last paved road somewhere north of Jellico. We camped on Crown land next to the water in tents for 6 days / 6 nights accompanied by one porcupine, 78 million black flies and 42 million mosquitoes. Needless to say, the walleye were nothing short of astounding. At the end of those trips, and I won't admit on this forum just how many were caught, (many released, most consumed) the Storm crankbaits we picked up in MI on the drive up looked exactly like this guy. I still have those baits - every tooth mark, scratch and scrape take me back to that campsite a little bit. Sorry for the long post, seeing that ole crank kind of hit a soft spot.

What worms do you like for shaky head
I keep seeing Zoom Trick and Finesse worms get mentioned a lot. I think I have a couple bags of Zoom Finesse in WaterMelon or maybe Pumpkin. I also bought a few Spot Removers w/ the Spring style Keeper late last year but haven't used 'em yet.

If You had to Keep A Bass to Eat
I've tasted a little bit of just about every type of freshwater N. American game fish, and although all members of the Micropterus genus are by all means edible, I'd trade a stringer full of bass for just one nice, fresh, snowy white Walleye fillet. A few trips to northern Ontario back in the mid 90s made me a believer. Or 3 or 4 slab 'O good ole KY black crappie. Or wait a dozen giant bluegill in a little crackermeal and clarified butter might give any of the aforementioned a run for their money in the ole fryin pan. Dang, now I'm hungry. Do we have any fish sticks in the freezer . . .
