  1. I just started to notice this sort of thing her in PA. It happened last year too so im guessing its a season post spawn activity. It's very fun though and I've been catching bass all day long on a 4 inch senko. There very agressive.
  2. I think the best way to avoid this is to do your best to keep the fish from jumping in the first place. Other than that just make sure you hook is ALWAYS sharp.
  3. Great read! You did a very good job of explaining its effectiveness.
  4. I was wondering what brand you guys prefer. Personally I like Dingers simple because the cost less and I feel they hold up better.
  5. I would hit the shallower one more often just because I find it easier to locate bass in shallow water with good vegitation.
  6. A senko, jig or soft jerk bait personally.
  7. It's all about watching the line
  8. I have three strong points.. 1) Being able to sit back for a minute on a day where the bite is slow and being able to think up a pattern to get fish. 2)Soft plastics, I can get some type soft plastic to work for me under just about any conditions from a buzz frog to a finesse worm or anything in between. 3)Never giving up, I can fish from sun up to sundown without a bite without losing heart. My major weakness is spinner bait, I have zero confidence in them. gotta work on that
  9. KU_Bassmaster, those are some awsome pictures!
  10. I was just wondering what everyone's confidence baits were. If I could only have 1 it would be a 4 in. yum dinger in a green pumpkin/pearl color rigged texas style on a 2/0 red Gamakatzu EWG worm hook.
  11. I have the same problem. My confidence is in senkos and cranks. When these patterns come up empty I sit and think for a minute. Consider all the factors of the day; time of year, time of day, wether ect..., and come up with one lure you think will best match the situation. Take this one lure and fish it the rest of the day. Its better fishing the right lure with no hits than fishing 10 of the wrong lures with no hits.
  12. Its all about what the bass want. Some times I let the bait sit as long as I could possibly stand and other times it will only sit a few seconds. But I always start slowest, becuase that is what works for me most of the time and speed up form there. For example if the majority of your hits are comming as soon as the bait touches bottom there is no need to let it sit for 30 seconds, speed up your hopping.
  13. I was wondering if anyone knew any good Blue gill imitations. The best I have found so far are the Storm Wild Eye Swimming Blue Gill and the Cabelas Dig It in a blue gill color.
  14. I carry 1 rod, a 6'6 medium action spinning rod. I have 1 lure box in my backpack with cranks, jigs, spinnerbaits, top waters ect... and about 30 bags of various soft plastics. When fishing soft plastics, which is most of the time, Ill carry 3 or 4 colors and few different styles in a bag in my pocket so i can change my rig quick for different water I may come across.
  15. I mostly use natural and more light colors, but i thinks thats just because thats what I have confidence in. If the light colors arn't producing then I switch up until the bass tell me what they want.
  16. For a senko go with a Yum Dinger that has green pumpkin on the back and a white underside. It looks like a bass and does wonders for me when a light color is needed. For a finnese type worm i like a natural looking pumpkin or sand color.
  17. Do you have any ideas where I would be able to find the bass post spawn?
  18. Anywhere the bass are hitting
  19. I live just west of pittburgh pa and fish mostly farm ponds. I've been hammering the bass on beds for about the past month but the weeds have taken over most of my ponds over the past two weeks. I have a basic idea on how to fish the heavy weeds and tried a few times with no luck. I've been trying meduim sized creature with a heavy bullet wait pegged about a foot up and just flipping it into the mats. I was just wondering if anyone had any good tips or reasons to why im not having any luck. Any advidce is greatly appriciated.
  20. I've had a few eye hooks latley, but i dont think there is anything you can do to stop it. What i have started doing that helps a TON on eye hooks is crushing down the barbs so your not yanking the dang things eye out.
  21. Just start with the basic texas rig. All you gotta do is flop it out, let it sink and bounce it up off the bottom and few inches and repeat. Then watch the bow in your line. When ever the line starts to straighten out or twitch take out the slack and slam the hook. This is the most basic way and you can get fancy with it but for now just start with this simple method until you get the hang of it. Good luck!
  22. I had something similar happen the other day. I saw a good 2.5 pound bass on a bed and flopped a 4 inch yum dinger on him and he inhaled it. It was completly in his mouth so I slammed the hook and started to reel him in but after about 3 seconds the hook just came out. So anyway I tried bouncing it over him again with no luck so I jerked it past him and he smashed it.
