Need help on a small pond
5 inch watermelon senko with black flake. Whacky style or weedless. either way, if a fish sees it, that fish is gunna be caught. Or get a nice black skirted buzzbait and start fishing about an hour before sunset, until about an hour after sunset. Target weedbeds and other above water structures. On retrieve, give the buzzbait a little subtle jerk once or twice. Boulder Todd

Wacky Rig question
LBH, can you give your opinion based on your experience and others you've talked to as to what other brands will last the longest please? I've just started using Yum's "dinger" with the very cool little trench they put in the worm for your hook. It lasts a little longer but not much. Thanks, todd

What's the most crushing soft plastic to C-Rig?
I'm fishing a new lake tomorrow and want to try a new soft plastic. I'll be fishing day and night conditions with clear skies and 90 degrees temps. If I want to absolutely crush some big Colorado bass, what's everyone's opinion on a bait that will really get them when C-Rigged? I know there's lots of different opinions, so let's hear your favorite C-rigged bass killing weapon for BIG LM bass. Todd

Whats the "Kissing" sound under the slop?
Thanks George, Was hoping you'd tell me, that every time I heard a kissing sound, it was a state record bass eating a frog, darn.

Whats the "Kissing" sound under the slop?
Bream - Any of several European freshwater fishes of the genus Abramis, especially A. brama, having a flattened body and silvery scales. A similar fish, especially: Any one of various saltwater fishes in the family Sparidae, such as the porgy. Any one of various freshwater sunfishes of the genus Lepomis and related genera, such as the bluegill. [b]So the kissing sound are bluegill that are eating?

Hot Weather
it happens to everyone I'd say. I only got 1 or 2 on Monday and Tuesday with Senkos. Then zero on Wednesday. I fished the same area on Friday, that I did on Wednesday, and caught 6 fish including a 3.9 pounder. 18.5 inches long which is a hawg for the ponds I fish here in Boulder Colorado. be patient, theyre in there, waiting for your senko. I find the fish a little deeper during the day, if it's sunny. They'll be in shade too, where the cover meets the light. For day fishing keep using soft plastics like a brushhog or a good worm. Try spinnerbaits too, theyre as practical and versitile a lure as they make. t

Whats the "Kissing" sound under the slop?
When we fish slop, and hear the "kissing sound" under the weeds, what are we hearing? Is it feeding bass? Is it grass carp sucking up their lunch?

Simple, Senkos.

What am I doing Wrong???
Bro, Go buy a bag of 10 5 inch watermellon/w black flake Senkos, fish them whacky or weedless and weightless, and fish them SLOWLY. Don't have the attitude of "I'm gunna catch 10 bass on one cast" You can thank me later, AFTER you catch more fish in one day than you have in the last month. Todd

How big will a LMB get at my chain of ponds???
How is the key to growing large bass longevity? I read that huge bass that feed all year round, like in California, only live to be about 8 years tops. Bass that DON'T feed and hunt all year live to be much older, like 12-14 years old. Like in the Northern states. God I can't freaking wait to fish a place where 5,6 pounders are a regular thing, and I could have a chance to catch a 10+ Anyone have any free tickets to lake El Salto? Good info though guys, thanks. todd

How big will a LMB get at my chain of ponds???
I live in Colorado. The state record LMB is 11.5 pounds. What determines how big a bass will get in a particular lake or pond? Is there a way to predict how big the largest bass will be in a chain of ponds? I've been fishing at this chain of 20 ponds here in Boulder. I've fished here 5 days a week for the last two months. The biggest fish I've landed is about 4 pounds and I've landed three of them. The environment is perfect for bass. Plenty to eat. Lots of cover and oxygen and the ponds are anything but over fished. How do you determine how long the bass in a particular environment will live, and how do you determine how big the bigger bass can get in a specific environment? I'm shocked every day that I dont catch more 5, 6,7 pounders out of these ponds, but after talking to different guys who have fished there for 10-25 years, they say 5 pounders are super rare. Can anyone tell me why the bass don't get HUGE here in Boulder? Is it because the ponds are only 12-15 feet at the deepest and they freeze? Is it because it gets cold here and their matabolism slows down and they're not eating that much 5 months a year? I don't get it. What does a lake or pond need to grow huge bass? Why can a guy 25 miles away, catch a state record at his lake, but a 5 pounder is RARE on my lake when they're so close in proximity? Where I fish theres tons of frogs, little bluegill, dragon flies, and insects and many other things for the bass to munch on and the LMG have no preditor fish to worry about. Is it possible there's a state record in there and I just don't know it? Todd

New Cali. State Record!!!
From the looks of the picture, this particular hawg of a smallmouth, would have out lived the guy who caught it by at least 5 years. So Sad. The old man who nailed it, gets to enjoy this big ole sow on his mantle for a few months, then he'll get put in a old folks home by Christmas, while his kids sell the d**n record fish at a garage sale. What a waste of a stunning Smally. For God's sake Grandpa, throw it back. Todd

Best largemouth lure for sunny days?
fantastic info guys, glad I made the post. Been doing very well with senkos in 10-12 feet of water. Our ponds have lots of vegetation so spinners are tough. Been using frogs and toads with a little sucess too. I'm leaving now to go find some water thats a little deeper and with less weeds so I can throw out a spinner bait. We'll see how that works. todd

Hookset with frogs revisited
Roadwarrior, you wrote, I think your technique is applicable to all topwater lures. A rod with a soft tip allows the rod to load up before setting the hook. That's the secret as far as I'm concerned. What I'm wondering is how ANYONE gets a proper hookset with a soft tip rod. I was just going to make a post about this actually. I just got a soft tip rod, and have been fishing soft plastics with it. Maybe that's my problem and I should never fish soft plastics with a soft tip rod, but I've lost a relative "bunch" of fish lately with it. I can't seem to get a good hook set. I feel like I need to act like a shark fisherman and use my whole body just to get my line to pull tight. Is it different when you fish with frogs? Should I NEVER use a soft tip rod for anything but fishing with frogs? As of this second, i HATE my soft tip rod and want to throw it in the garbage. I watched a 4 pound bass fall off my line in mid air yesterday 'cause I didnt get a good hook set. Help! todd

pond baits
It completely depends on many factors. For example, are there tons of weeds and vegatation? Is it clear water? Are there frogs on the pond? If so, what do they look like? Is the water 35 feet deep in some parts where you're fishing or is it only 6 feet deep? Generally I'd say get yourself a pack of Zoom trick worms and Carolina rig them, or some Senko's, and rig them weightless, and weedless, or whacky. When the sun starts going down, I usually have two poles in the water. One with a Senko or some imitation of a senko, and a top water bait like a nice buzzbait or jitterbug. I throw the Senko out there, and let it sit for a few minutes, while casting my buzzbait in the same general area as my worm. If the bass don't hit my buzz bait after about 7 casts, I put my pole down and pick up the other pole with the worm on it, and slowly twitch and wiggle it through the area where my buzz bait just went through. It works nicely. A nice watermellon with black flake senko, or smoke with the flake of your choice should get you some fish. Todd

BEST RIG FOR HEAVY UNDERWATER VEGATATION?
Brad, The thing is, I'm looking for a lure that is going to get way down there where the bass are. I know I can fish lots of lures on the surface, or just on top of the weeds, but I think I need to pull a bait from 4-6 feet below the water top. Like I said, a carolina rigged Senko or trick worm has done pretty well, but still gets caught up on retrieve a lot. I go weightless but it doesnt get down deep either. Todd
-
BEST RIG FOR HEAVY UNDERWATER VEGATATION?
Sounds good. 2 questions though. 1. Any kreature will work or do you have a favorite? Or does GYCB only make 1? 2. When weightless, how does the lure get down in the weeds as opposed to staying closer to the water top? thanks, todd

BEST RIG FOR HEAVY UNDERWATER VEGATATION?
I've been fishing ponds that have a ton of very healthy, green lush plants that grow up to about 6 inches or less from the top of the water. Throwing a regular crank bait for example is just impossible. I've caught a couple smaller bass using a Carolina rigged, Zoom worm, but even that is kind of hard to pull through the heavy weeds sometimes. Can anyone suggest a way to crush some huge bass out of those weeds? Texas rig maybe? Thanks, Todd

GOING FISHING IN 1 HOUR!!! LURE SUGGESTIONS
was hoping you said that. Already texas rigged a nice 6'' Green Pumpkin zoom trick worm on my rod. I'll hook up a grub on the other. The real question is, should I carolina rig any of these? Fish them weightless? or texas rig both of them? I'm just starting to experiment with soft plastics. I've been going weightless mostly. I've texas and carolina rigged a couple times too. All have been pretty successful but I can't figure out which is best. That takes time, and I only picked up bass fishing a few months ago, now im addicted. todd

GOING FISHING IN 1 HOUR!!! LURE SUGGESTIONS
Going LMB fishing today here in Boulder Colorado. 20 ponds in a 2 square mile area. The ponds I'll be fishing, make it impossible to use a crank bait. the vegitation is plain and simply to thick. Jerkbaits - silver and red Floating Rapala, topwater crank bait - Jointed black jitterbug, 2 inch bluegill jitterbug, 4 1/2 inch silver zara spook, Soft plastics,(crawdad, worm, grubs), Buzzbait, black skirt spinner bait (usually gets hung up in weeds on retrieve My weedless frogs are in my friends tackle box so i cant use them Weather here is 90 degrees and sunny. Has been all week. I'll be fishing from shore. No boats here. Lots of vegitation just below the water line. I'm leaving in 90 minutes. Smack dab at high Noon. Which baits should I use to catch a monster? Todd

Any Colorado Largemouth fishermen(woman) in here?
I live in Boulder and just wanted to start a Colorado bass fisherman section in this forum. Any of you exist? Where do you live? Where do you fish? What's your favorite places for big ole bass? I fish up at Sawhill ponds mostly. Biggest fish so far in the two months I've fished there? 4 pounds. Average about 4 fish between 1-2.5 pounds every 3 or so hours. 20 different ponds make it fun as hell and super chill too. Never crowded, beautiful views, and some nice bass. Many of the ponds there have super strong vegitation on or near the top of the water so fishing spinners seems to be tough in a few of the ponds. Same with crank baits. Anyone else fish there?

When is enough, ENOUGH?
I live in Boulder Colorado. Here there's about a 2 mile square area where there's 20 lakes, so I dont have to worry about this that much, but I have a great idea for you. When someone is crowding you on a shorline, when you want to have a nice chill day of fishing in peace and quiet, jusy follow this 10 step program... 1. reach into your backpack 2. Pull out a pair of womans stockings 3. Pull said stocking over your head and face, kinda like a bank robber would do it 4. reach back into your backpack 5. Grab a plastic knife that look like a real knife, but cant hurt anybody 6. Look in the general direction of the moron who's fishing next to you 7. Holding the knife in the air, Slowly start chuckling, while looking at the moron next to you 8. Build the chucking into full blown maniacal laughter 9. While laughing like a hyena slowly start walking towards the evil fisherman crowding you and your woman 10. Watch the selfish, cracker headed, toothless inbred, who's crowding you, move down the lake about 500 yards Todd

BASS AND BUZZBAIT - 3 QUESTIONS FOR THE BASS GURUS
Wow! 30 feet? Very nice and very interesting. The fact that a bass would take the energy to make a 30 foot vertical strike says a hell of a lot for that particular lure. Especially if it was a big bass..
