No.........that's a Mayan cichlid, they are awesome fighters for their little size. Great fun on ul with a roostertail or crappie jig.

Exactly correct. Just another invasive species to Southern Florida waters. Fun fish to catch on light tackle. Supposedly not a bad fish to eat either.

Weird. Those and what looks like tilapia seem rampant in one of the two lakes. I'd like to snag a tilapia and blacken it lol

Talapia are in Fl too, they are a cichlid as well. All the larger cichlids you can catch in Fl are decent to eat, it is also erged by Florida fish and wildlife to not release the invasive species, so grill away LOL

Tilapia originally came from Africa, Mayan cichlids are from Central America and peacocks from South America.

A lot of the Talapia sold in stores are harvested from Lake Victoria, which is in Africa..so says my fish monger..
