Crankbait Rod Or Not?

Featured Replies

Im in the market for a crankbait rod, and noticed that a lot of companies have poles labeled for cranking. However, I've also noticed that they are certain power/top ratings, such as Med-Hvy/Mod-Fast. So, are these specific rods any different from any other rod rated the same? For example, the Kistler Z-Bone LE 7'3" is Med-Hvy/Mod-Fast, but isn't specifically labeled as a cranking rod. Am I on the right track here, that this particular rod would be in fact ideal for crankbaits?

Do your research and visit the web pages of some of your favorite pros and also the rod manufacturers' descriptions of their cranking rods.

Tackle Warehouse also has some good reviews.

I have two cranking rods.l The first is the one I love best: A Bass Pro Shops crankinstick. Great rod.

The second is a G. Loomis crankbait rod.

A 7 foot medium heavy is where I would start and consider the various rods for cranking.

Everyone will have a favorite brand or profile so get ready for some great suggestions. Just don't get confused. Try to keep it simple and within your price range.

For most crank baits Medium Power/ Moderate Action. For heavier lures and deep divers, MH or H Power.

Specifically, I like the Avid AVC70MM and Pinnacle Perfecta DHC5-701CAMCB for most treble hook

applications. For deep divers, Lamiglas SR705R is THE BOMB!

Im not sure where you are in wpb where you'd want to spend a lot of money on a cranking rod since our ponds, canals and lakes are so shallow and weedy at times. Gander has a nice shimano rod for about 70 bucks off of the shelf thats cranking specific. tw.com has them on the site but Gander has them off the shelf
