Yeah, I'm out on the river tomorrow instead of today. Friend needed my help moving today, so had to switch it up.

Went out for some smallmouth today and we got what we wanted! The first fish I hooked up with was without a doubt my biggest smallie... I thought I was on the bottom until I felt her head shake, then

Shane and I got out today, fished a new sport for the first time and put together an alright day. Lots of pickerel, some pretty small bass but I did manage my biggest fish of the year SO FAR at 6lbs o

  • What's up, everyone?! Figured I'd bounce on here, say hi. I got so tied up in chasing fish this year, I forgot to do anything else. I hope you all are happy and healthy in this new year, and have big

Nashua river tomorrow morning, going to hit the lower part behind clocktower place and going towards Margarittas in Nashua.  I am hoping the bridge area at Main street will be productive.    Jitterbug , i may have an empty seat in my canoe.   about 6:30 or so i will be hitting the water, but only till 8:30

Hopefully you get something might be a hard bit if it's cold.

CLR ,  if you are up in the Concord NH area go hit the rivers where they come together.   Exit 17 , go left ,  go left at the circle , I think the water is open over by the railroad bridges.  Fish where the rivers meet.

I am thinking there has to be some relaxing at the walls , and under the bridge,   the question is do i have the patience to wait long enough.

So how are you guys targeting these fish?

Just bought a new Lew's BB1 Pro 5.1:1 for $60 on eBay :) This will be my first Lew's and wanted a nice slow speed for my crank baits.

Nice reel, Bob. I have one, and love it. And as far as the fishing goes, tomorrow will be frontal, and cold, I'm expecting fish to be pulled back, and not very active, so I'm going to target them close to channel drops in some deeper, slack areas. Probably going to run a drop shot and jig worked painfully slow. With winds around 12-14 ish, I'll probably have to anchor out, and hit stuff that way.

That's is awesome for $60. I have never used one but I hear of more and more guys switching over to Lews. I actually just had my hands on a couple of them a Dicks today, they're definitely smooth, even the less expensive models have the "9+1" bearings which is nice. I hope it's in good condition for ya!

It was listed as new but no box, I always throw out a bid when I see item about to end I have been lucky a couple times so far. Bought a nice daiwa caldia spinning reel last fall for under $100 on ebay. I need to stop buying spinning reels and get involved with bait casters more.

Some good smallies in that area!

Hard to believe this is what Swains looked like on the 24th of 2012 still hearing reports of up to a foot of ice on it now.

March fishing 2012 Swains Lake Barrington, NH

I need to go on the water!

Oh yeah, huge difference from the past couple years.

Nev and Shane, how did things go on the river this morning?

I'm going to launch now. Let you know what's up when I get back.

I bailed after a couple hours. Couple yay-hoos around throwin' live bait and only catching a couple crappies, so I said "screw it, not hanging out in this wind for nothin' ", and packed up. I'll try again this week if I get a chance.

Grandson spent the night,  did not get out to fish this morning.  Going to possibly try tomorrow morning.

Found bassresource.com after watching YouTube videos over the past year. I'm from Manchester and decided to join up after reading through the posts.

I'm tired of ice fishing and want to fish the Merrimack.  I drove to the power plant in Bow and think I'll launch the kayak in the next few weeks.  Does anyone have any advice, especially safety advice for this area?  Are the conditions usually predictable, is the current typically strong or mild?  I plan on having some jigs and a drop shot rigged.  Thanks!

Welcome, smalljaw! Yeah, that part of the river is no problem to navigate. Your plan of jigs and drop shots sounds good to me, too. They tend to like pearl and silver on the drop shot stuff.

Are we starting up a competition next month ?

I would love to, but at this rate we won't even have open water by the end of next month! we are definitely still making ice today.

I was on Lake Champlain all weekend. It was brutally windy and very cold. This morning it was -12.  Winter will have to break soon. Once it starts it could happen somewhat quick, maybe 2 or 3 weeks. Still about a month away though.  Far sooner then ice out, there will be rivers that will be fishable.

My vote would be to start it in May, just because everyone doesn't fish rivers, and we still have 24" of ice. Getting softer, but still tons of it. It will be quick, though, once it starts really warming up.

Only 24 inches of ice ? Must be getting pretty thin then down your way. April or May, I am in either way. I will find some pond or lake to get my boat in before the end of the month. We NEED a big time warm up SOON !!

Long range forecast is showing 60 degree weather the fist of April then staying steady temp wise. 2 weeks for small lakes and ponds 3rd week for Winni to thaw out. then the wait for 50 degree water temps that has always started the bass biting for me.
